Bloober Team Failed To Entice Silent Hill 2 Fans Because Of Its "Combat Trailer"

Hanzala from eXputer says, "Silent Hill 2 showed off a ton of combat in its new trailer, making me wonder if doing that for a psychological horror game was a wise move."

Jin_Sakai445d ago

I have no faith in Bloober Team making Silent Hill.

I'll say it now. You're gonna eat those words. I'm screenshotting this, date, time everything and then I'll later tell you: "I told you so." Don't be a tool, dude. I see your comments all over the place. Maybe you're not a tool, but then you'd be ignorant. Your like a wave of sea man, you go the way the rest of the ocean goes. Some call that kind of personality "a follower"

I mean...Are they wrong, though?

I've played a bunch of Bloober games: Layers of Fear 1 and 2, Observer, The Medium and Blair Witch.
Observer is probably my favorite of their games, but everything else is shockingly average if not mediocre. The first Layers of Fear had immense potential to be something special. It had that PT vibe, but unfortunately, was seemingly written by the same type of moody middle-schooler who presses far too hard on their paper to write slam poetry.

The issue is -- as I've seen it -- their inability to sustain suspense after "giving up the ghost" with the first few, cheap jump scares. They know how to build a world, and set up the heaviness of an atmosphere, but they can't seem to move beyond fun-house type scares. It gets annoying after awhile for the same thing to pop out at you, or for a door to slam shut in front of you or the walls to disappear behind you, especially when these tricks are done a dozen or more times over the course of your game.

Silent Hill 2 is going to be the acid test for them. I have my doubts. I see them approaching this game with the mentality of "So, spooky town covered in fog and weird glitchy monsters coming at you from dark hallways, right? GOT IT" and not even remotely understanding the psychological underpinnings that define that PS2 classic.

Do you work for Bloober?

I_am_Batman444d ago

Look at Bloober's track record. They aren't necissarily a bad studio, but they're clearly a strange choice to remake one of the most beloved japanese horror games of all time. None of their games even come close to SH2 in quality. If anything I'm surprised people got this hyped about the SH2 remake to begin with, knowing Bloober was gonna be at the helm of the project.

I hope you're right and it turns out fantastic, but there's plenty of reasons to be sceptical.

What are you talking about.. They will fuck it up.

I seen the trailer and was like its looked like a rip off of RE and not a good rip off but whose until its out

Making a "combat trailer" for a silent Hill game was a mistake and honestly kind of a tone deaf move.

FinalFantasyFanatic444d ago (Edited 444d ago )

I cannot fathom why they even did this when it has never been one of the more "valued" component of these games, I would have doubled down on the story or horror elements for a trailer.

Alos88445d ago

Interestingly, Bloober themselves haven't retweeted or mentioned this trailer in any way since it was released. I don't think they're proud of this one either.

ROCKY28445d ago

and they (Blumper) created the trailer in-house 😂😂😂 28514;😂😂

Scissorman445d ago

I wouldn't have named it "Combat Trailer". The thing most of us were curious about was how Bloober Team would handle the combat, mainly because none of their games have combat in them. It could have been a bit less intense but overall, I'm thankful for the trailer we got, mainly because now the team can do something about the animation and hopefully remove the dreadful QTE bits.

CrimsonWing69445d ago

Well if your trailer was to show off combat and sell it, they failed miserably. The atmosphere and environments are spot-on, though.

0hMyGandhi445d ago

The only thing that I can think for the logic of releasing a "combat trailer" is to perhaps improve a criticism of the PS2 original. Combat was not that great. I hold SH2 in my personal top 10 games, but there are areas that could be fixed up.
Unfortunately....It doesn't look like Bloober has improved the combat either? like, it's not a step forward or a step back, but a super awkward step to one side.

But who knows. Silent Hill deserves some damned respect, and I do hope that Bloober gives it to them, but they have alot to prove. I, at the very least, respect their courage in even touching this specific game, given how devout it's fans are.

I kind of wish they did. Like I’d love if they could take him and what was established and crank the scares up to 11 with him.

Silent Hill 1 first!
I think they should give castlevania and mgs rising to platinum games

RaidenBlack66d ago

Or a new original Silent Hill entry and then the Silent Hill 1 Remake?
you know going alternatively ... by that we get both new entries as well as remakes

Terry_B66d ago (Edited 66d ago )

A remake of the first Silent Hill would be great. Let a team take Castlevania that is known for experiences with either Metroidvania games or 3D Combat.

darthv7266d ago

I think they still have a good relationship with Mercury Steam... I quite enjoyed their Lord of Shadows games in the franchise. They would be a good one to take on the next CV game as they have the experience you mentioned.

Terry_B66d ago

I think Mercury Steam is actually working on another Metroid game right now :-)

RaidenBlack66d ago

MercurySteam is working on their own ARPG project, to be revealed soon.

VersusDMC66d ago

Either remake Silent hill 1, 3 or a new silent hill game would be great. After Silent Hill 2 (third favorite game last year) i trust that studio now and am anticipating Cronos: The New Dawn.

MehmetAlperTR66d ago

Please make SH1 remake.. Not SH3...
