With one exception. Its name is a lie. Its a FFVII Reboot, not a Remake.

MrNinosan529d ago

Or you just need to understand that the word Remake has more meanings than one.

Rynxie529d ago (Edited 529d ago )

Ah, yes, that's what we need. A game that was once sold in a complete package is now being broken into parts with the price tag of $70 each.

I guess next year, Sony will release The Last of Us 2: Remake - part 1 of 3, where you get the first 1/3rd of the game for the price tag of $70 and wait a few years in-between to get the second and third half of the game.

Because, according to this dipsh*t, that should be the standard of AAA games now.

goldwyncq528d ago

Each game will have their own beginning, middle, climax and end. Remake was a complete package and anyone who says otherwise has not played it.

purple101528d ago

didn't the original come on 4 disks and was one of the biggest (longest) games of its era.?

MrNinosan527d ago

@purple101
FFVII (PS) was 3 discs and not one lf the biggest (longest) games of the era.

It took around 40-45 hours to beat first time, and around 70-80 hours for completionist.

Xenogears was longer, I would assume Breath of Fire 3 and 4 as well, even the Suikoden games was pretty long.

I think FFVII together with most jrpgs on PSOne was around the 40-50 hours mark 👍

FFVII Remake took almost the same time for a first round, but mainly due to cutscenes and more time put on story.

However, FFVII Remake includes a lot that wasn't in the original, and Rebirth will be even more due to the second timeline and Zack.

goldwyncq528d ago

It's objectively not a reboot in any sense of the word though.

shinoff2183529d ago

For as down as u was on this game the day it released for not having turn based combat . I didn't try it again until I got a ps5. I figured wth I'll give it another shot. It was amazing in the end. I'm really looking forward to rebirth.

Deep down though I just hope square don't forget us turn based fans.

MrNinosan529d ago

Square didn't forget "us" fans and they make lots of turn based games still.

shinoff2183529d ago

Sure. They do but it's definitely dwindled. What do we got like 3 4 turn based ones. I'm afraid they'll action up dq 12. What I can think of from square, lost sphear, I am setsuna, couple remasters they did in the last few years but I can't think of anything(doesn't mean they haven't I just can't remember) Which is what it is but I still feel what I feel.

shinoff2183529d ago

Omg octapath that's the one that was on the tip of the tongue but couldn't figure it out. Congrats though like 3

CrimsonWing69529d ago

Honestly, when this trilogy is done and we compile it as one game... I honestly can't think of a game that could beat this. Part 1 was exceptional. Blew my expectations away and this is coming from a long-time Squaresoft fan who lost faith that Square Enix could make an FF game that would appeal to an old-school fan.

Rebirth looks like it's cranking the dial all the way up. I can't even imagine how legendary the finale will be.

Pyrofire95529d ago

Nearly. Too much padding. Sewers, Lamps, and Train Graveyard I think could have been cut/trimmed and the game would be better for it.

shinoff2183529d ago

That's kinda most games when you break it down. You ended up in the sewers due to the story same as the trains. What games don't have padding. The longer the better imo. I want more not a 6 to 8 hour game.

gold_drake528d ago

the only time id say it was padding, was the second time you go into the sewers.

everything else is either new locations or sidequests that are OPTIONAL

Chard528d ago

Too much shimmying through tight spaces

gold_drake528d ago

i loved it. i still do.
the music is just so incredible, the voice actiong top notch (english and german, will never play the jp versions ha), the twist on the story, the slums the locations, wall market, the shinra building my god.

just so so good.

i mean, weve been joking about this for a while now haha

they're gonna resell this trilogy for the next 20 years ha

but i wonder ... remake and rebirth already had to cut back on the psr4and ps5.

hows that gonna go on that inferior system?

andy8516d ago

Steam deck runs it ok and the switch 2 is more powerful (docked]. Handheld mode will be the interesting one

PRIMORDUS16d ago

No physical release GTFO. This game deserves to be in your collection, not some digital shit.

raWfodog16d ago

I can definitely see them offering a boxed collection of the entire trilogy after it’s completed. Or at least it would be a smart thing to do if Square wanted to bring in more money.

Why do we think this is coming out on Switch 2 before Xbox? Any thoughts? The S2 is not more powerful than the Series S so it’s not a ‘lack of power’ issue. Perhaps the sales forecast is higher on S2 than Xbox so that’s maybe where their priority lies?

jznrpg17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

It’s definitely a sales issue. If Xbox didn’t have players used to GamePass I bet it would be there already.

andy8516d ago

The fact people will buy it. Xbox gamers generally have minimal interest in this series. Portable Final Fantasy will go down a storm in Japan where the switch sells huge numbers

repsahj16d ago

Hamaguchi states not just the remake but the entire FF7 remake series.

repsahj16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

The Switch 2 version is really beautiful. It looked as good as the PS5 version.

But why? I mean cool and all just seems a bit random. Now if they could set a mode in Rebirth that makes these Brutal challenges easier then I am all for it...

JimBeans161d ago

Because they will release the games as a completed trilogy when the third one comes out but they need a way to deal with the boring sections.

SethNW161d ago

Probably features they are developing for future titles on same engine, or in other words third part, and they are easy and cheap to backport to released entry. Which also expands their options test feature in sort of safer environment, where it won't hurt anything if it isn't popular or used. Since everyone already bought the game. Plus they probably will want to eventually release whole trilogy as one game. Which will warrant feature parity between all three, so doing work ahead of time won't hurt.

Babadook7160d ago (Edited 160d ago )

"But why?"

Personally I like the "fast forward" as opposed to just "skip" for times when I need to replay a mini game thats combined with story (like the upper Junon 1st infantry mini game). I wanted to improve my result without skipping the part of the cinematic that reveals your result. This feature makes those moments more precise. There're probably plenty of times when this will be nicer.

andy85160d ago

I don't really see the point of speeding up cutscenes. Aren't they there to be enjoyed. And if you don't want to see them again..just skip them

jambola160d ago

Does it let me skip the forced cutscenes in battle?
like in the final battle where there's a full minute long unskippable cutscene?
will it finally do that, or do we have to wait for a pc release where 1 guys in his bedroom with no funding to fix this
