VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Ultimately, Blaze in the Deepblue isn't as enjoyable as Gal Guardians, or the better Inti Creates games out there. It's still a fairly good Metroidvania, though, with diverse biomes, tight controls, an interesting set of upgradeable abilities, an approachable crafting system, and striking graphics. What holds it back are small, irksome things: the story doesn’t really go anywhere; the map lacks a complete legend; abilities and gear are fun but imbalanced; and the game insists on a tedious boss rush just before the end. The folks likely to get the most out of Blaze in the Deepblue are fans of the anime and players searching for an easier, more approachable Metroidvania."
“Although the year is winding down, there have still been a lot of great indie games so let's celebrate 12 of the best from November.” - A.J. Maciejewski from Video Chums.
WTMG's Fernando da Costa: "In conclusion, Yohane the Parhelion: BLAZE in the DEEPBLUE is fun, but it fails to stick the landing totally. Several mechanics felt disjointed. For every crafting system that I lauded, there’s a hiccup to balance it out. Nitpick or not, the slight delay to melee is annoying. I’m known for my kamikaze ways, and I’m invigorated by panicked kills, but I can’t do that here. I did enjoy the homage to a renowned indie gem, though.
Overall, I don’t regret the 10+ hours I invested, and I can see myself returning one day. I do wish the post-game was a tad more robust. Inti Creates are known for adding extra, so to have nothing is disappointing. In conclusion, what harms it is that a portion of the mechanics were ignored – there’s a lack of cohesion. I still recommend it, but maybe at a little discount."
Back on April 1, Yohane the Parhelion: Blaze in the Deeplblue was announced, and the date meant that many wondered whether it was an April Fool's prank.
