The long-awaited PS5 upgrade for The Last of Us Part 2 is here, with some extra content, but not without some questioning its necessity.

There's no defence, we don't need this and it was a waste of their time

Games only 3 years old should not be getting remasters when there's hardly any difference, that's the issue because it will just keep on happening if we let it.

eagle21545d ago

Part 1 is beautifully done so I welcome this. And it's freakin' $10.00.....less than the price of a movie ticket.

ModsDoBetter545d ago

It's $10 for an upgrade to the digital version. (Hopefully physical too) but we do not know the pricing of the standalone release for those who sold their physical PS4 version or those who just haven't played it yet.

Sonic1881545d ago (Edited 545d ago )

That's digital only 😂I expect the physical version to be way more than that

Shane Kim545d ago

olMyerslo

If you sold your copy, you had no more interest in the game. If you never played it, you should pay full price or buy the cheaper ps4 version.

The upgrade is 10 bucks. Maybe a bit greedy, but it's not the end of the world.

Calvaro545d ago

Who cares what the price is of the new disk release, let them charge full price, anyone has the option of getting a PS4 copy for cheap.

$10 is cheap for DLC that adds content a game mode and has graphical upgrades.

sadraiden545d ago

Part 1 Remake is marginally better looking than Part 1 Remastered. It wasn't worth $70.

generic-user-name545d ago

@sadraiden

"Part 1 Remake is marginally better looking than Part 1 Remastered"

Just an utter lie.

We've not seen any in game footage yet. The first game got a remaster barely a year after it was released.

When this one releases it'll have been 3 years and 7 months, I don't think that's an unreasonable timeframe to remaster a popular game, riding off a popular TV series too, it does make sense.

-Foxtrot545d ago

"The first game got a remaster barely a year after it was released"

I think it has the benefit of the doubt considering it was on the PS3 and the console was literally on its last year before the PS4.

Also the PS4 was not backwards compatible with the PS3

Complete different situations

Extermin8or3_545d ago

Remaster, game of the year edition whatever you want to call it. It's native ps5, has a 10 quid upgrade a bunch of new content thst make it more than worth the upgrade.

crazyCoconuts545d ago

I think they made it for all the Xbox gamers moving to PS5 since it's their first playthrough 😊

rob-GP545d ago

How does it affect you? Why are you annoyed about it when you clearly aren't the target audience?

Babadook7545d ago (Edited 545d ago )

"it was a waste of their time"

I don't think this took much of their resources (time). Their brain trust is hard at work on the next big thing and this was a smart move to keep their employees paid.

Cockney545d ago (Edited 545d ago )

We? I'll be buying the £10 upgrade day 1
Edit: having just read all the comments here it would seem your use of the word "we" was wildly inaccurate, unless of course you were referring to your schizophrenic tendencies

Inverno545d ago

It's not really a remaster, it's a rerelease for current Gen with added content. Slapping "REMASTERED" on the box only serves to advertise it to your average brain dead consumer.

WelkinCole545d ago

Yep as a long time hardcore PS fan this is just madness.

We went from 2 new IP's in the PS3 gen from ND (Uncharted, TLOU) to how many freaking remasters and sequal since then?

This shit needs to stop

I am a PS fan mainly because of the top notch PS 1st party games that are also varied and new (IP's) that keeps me coming back from more

If this is PS going forward then fuck it. I am done with SP focused AAA games which basically means console gaming because Nin and MS are even worse so I have no option left.

blackblades545d ago

Lol waste of time I bet money you'll go back and play it when it's out.

If only Bloodborne got this treatment. 😭

derek545d ago

I believe they are planning something big with Bloodbourne, maybe a full remake and/or a sequel to it by one of their studios. With all the hype around elden ring and new players being introduced to From software a new release of bloodbourne in whatever form is a slam dunk.

VersusDMC545d ago

Out of all the 10 dollar upgrades(death stranding, ghost of tsushima, etc...) it's the one with the most added content. New substantial game mode, cut levels, new skins, etc.

So don't know why this is getting the most hate?

JEECE545d ago

Yeah it's wild to see how all the people who "would have been fine with [insert name of remaster/remake] if there had been a reasonably priced upgrade" are still angry.

The "they should have made a new game instead" crowd is pretty silly too. Do people on here really think it takes that same resources to touch up a PS4 game for release on PS5 that it does to make a new game from scratch, and that a studio can only do one of these things at a time?

VersusDMC545d ago

Some of the "they should have made a new game instead" crowd also say there is no difference between the remaster and the ps4 version.

They say it's a waste of Naughty Dog's time and they didn't do anything in the same comment...it is just the usual illogical ND hate we see here all the time.

Zeke68545d ago (Edited 545d ago )

@VersusDMC I don't argue with your post, but as an owner of both LoU 1 and 2 on the PS4 versions, remasters aside, what have Naughty Dog in store for a gamer like me? I don't need PS5 remasters for games I already own and plays great in PS4 mode on my PS5. I think that's why many people want ND to spend less resources/time on PS5 /PC versions...
Just another perspective. :)
Edit: Meanwhile Insomniac, Playstations new flagship studio, is pumping out great games every year. (more or less)

jeromeface544d ago

if people stopped buying them they would stop making them... The reality is most games in the current game landscape is a bunch of games that have mtx and that turns off a lot of people.

LucasRuinedChildhood545d ago (Edited 545d ago )

Yeah, you're basically paying €10 for some DLC. There's a lot concern trolling going on.

These guys weren't losing their minds like this when every other late PS4 game like Ghost Of Tsushima, Death Stranding, FF7 Remake, Spider-Man, Nioh 2, etc got a PS5 port.

And it's not even just because it has "remastered" in the name because Spider-Man Remastered and TLOU2 Remastered's release dates are both almost 4 years from the OG release.

And at least NaughtyDog gave us 60fps in a free patch whereas Insomniac made you pay for it. It's not like Spider-Man Remastered "needed" to exist.

There's nothing to complain about. Unlike TLOU1 Remake, this would take up barely any resources besides the Rogue Lite mode ... which is new content.

generic-user-name545d ago

They still hate Druckmann over the events of TLOU2 and will take any chance to crap on ND.

rob-GP545d ago

What people forget is that it's most likely coming to PC next year as well, so this is ensuring PS owners get the same enhanced version as PC.

If they didn't do this and just put the best version on PC (like they did with a few of their first PC releases), then Console owners would be annoyed - I would.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. Simple. For us who want to replay the game in higher resolution, quality and framerates, with cut content and new features, I'm sure we'll have no issue paying the £10 upgrade fee

StarkR3ality545d ago

What does the PC version have to do with this? It kinda made sense with Part 1 as it was a visual leap, just the in engine cut scenes alone was massive. But Part 2 literally looks the same?

It's a weird decision and I think it's just to fill the massive gap they currently have. Hopefully we hear more about their other studios, but other than Ghost of Tsushima 2, there's not even rumours and all their other studios are busy with other things.

WelkinCole545d ago

Its not the money. Its the fact that many of us that have been waiting for ND next big game have to wait perhaps another generation and to be frank I think most will not care after this gen

TGGJustin545d ago

Are you dumb? Another generation? Dude it's only been 3 years since TLOU2 released. Have you looked around the industry and seen how long it takes most studios to put out a new game? Horizon: FW took 5 years. GOW Ragnarok took almost 5 years. Those were sequels. At the least Naughty Dog deserves 4-5 years but if they are making a new IP it could take a bit longer. Them having a smaller team put out this remaster doesn't take away from what Neil's team is making. I'm just amazed at the ignorance I see around this.

derek544d ago

@Welk that's a stretch a whole generation, lol. Naughty Dog doing anything always triggers it biggest haters.
ND: "hey everyone, we're working on 2-3 games including a new ip, in the meantime here's a $10 upgraded version of Tlou2 with new game modes"
ND haters: "how dare you, I'm pissed"
Lol

Review - The Last of Us Part II: Remastered (PC) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Kyle Nicol: "The Last of Us Part II: Remastered is a beautiful mess. An ambitious title that had all the right ingredients, but didn’t always pan out the way it should. The excellent survival action gameplay that showcases humanity’s brutality is often let down by a story that is trying too much and has poor pacing. Thankfully, Part II’s debut on PC improves on the last game, making it the best place to play, even with its imperfections."

If the story is deeply flawed to the blogger and it's a story game, how does the blogger justify giving it a 9? A deep flaw is unacceptable in any part of the game. If everything else was perfect, it would be an 8 game. Deep flaws are foundational issues.

Let me help:

Graphics: 10

Sound: 10

Story: 8 (Overreliance on flashbacks. While the story beats are properly paced and the plot points are generally pacy, it tries to tell 2 stories at once, which led to a structural issue in the overall story, but despite this the message and mood are striking relevant.)

Gameplay: 8 (Turning in the game is awkward and it gets in the way or searching for stuff and the quick turn in combat doesn't feel intuitive.)

Overall: 9

The Last of Us™ Part II Remastered 2025 PC 4K (No DLSS) Incredible Forest Graphics

CG says: In this video, we take a look at the same forest section on horseback in The Last of Us™ Part II Remastered that we showcased in 2020 on the PS4 Pro. It’s an amazing bit of exposition with not much happening aside from a bit of banter. However, taking it slowly rather than galloping past, the forest graphics are actually pretty detailed. One of the more beautiful moments from the game. PS4 Pro version holds-up pretty well (that output was upscaled 4K and back then, there was no DLSS or AI interventions that we know about).

I just picked up my NG+ run as a refresher for the TV show. Game has aged extremely well! Gorgeous, brutal. Poor Yara really gets it. 😔

With the game getting mods in the near future, this release will be everything you could shake a golf club at.
