The Best & Worst Video Games of 2008

We can hardly believe it. 2008 is over and behind us, and boy what a year it was for gaming. Going into the year, we really didn't think it could touch 2007. Indeed, 2007 was an incredible year for video games. And yet, somehow, 2008 managed to compare. It seems every platform enjoyed at least one truly remarkable release, even if things on the handheld side of things were a little slower than we like. Like 2007, 2008 was a year of sequels. Grand Theft Auto IV. Gears of War 2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Fallout 3. Just to name a few. Still, the industry enjoyed the introduction of several new IPs, such as LittleBigPlanet, Mirror's Edge, Left 4 Dead and others.

Holy crap. 2008 was awesome.

So, what better way is there to celebrate the passing of a year and the dawn of a new year than our annual Best & Worst Awards? There isn't, in case you're wondering.

Best Online multiplayer "Gears of War 2"?
All credibility lost. <-- tongue in cheek guys a little bit here but you honestly do lose some credibility as a gaming site if you let your being a fan get in the way of honesty.

I enjoyed the single player so I have no problems with it winning game of the year on the 360, although I am sure some will argue for Fable 2, Fallout 3, L4D, etc. But the game is broken online.

Call of Duty:WAW should win best multiplayer IMHO.
I guess some would argue L4D, R2 or what not but again not GeoW2.

Best Multiplatform game I would personally say Fallout 3.

What about Mario Kart Wii? That was WAAAAAY better.. and IMO the Winner of that award!

GOW2 Best Xbox game? YES! Spend too many nights in multiplayer here

LBP Best PS3? HELL YEAH! Spend too much time making useless crap out of different things..

how the fvck does gears win best multiplayer when all i hear is people saying its broke, R2 without a DOUBT is by far the best multiplayer and when will these authors get their heads out of their as* and stop giving awards to gta 4.

with the fact that Resistance 2 is a great multiplayer game. i haven't played GeOW2, perhaps when i pick up a 360 when i am sure it won't die on me. But its hard to agree with their pick of GeOW2 when i hear a lot of stories that it takes to long to find a match, when i go online with R2 and can play a multitude of online types with zero problems (other than the lack of voice, but that is the other players not the game)

Call of Duty: World at War
Fifa 2009

All of these games deserve Best Multiplayer Game of 2008 alot more than Gears 2 does.

I agree, I think Left 4 Dead is the multiplayer game of the year, but Gears has a HUGE following, it's hard to deny.
