Director of The Last of Us Multiplayer Game at Naughty Dog: "Yes, I’m Still Working on That Game"

I'd love a new TLOU MP.

Some people forget or just don't know how good the MP mode actually is/was.

northpaws198d ago

Yes, the original faction was so good, I had 700 hours on it.

shinoff2183197d ago

Damn northpaws. That's alot.

northpaws197d ago

@shinoff2183

I think I played about 400 hours on PS3 version, and another 300 on the PS4 remaster.

isarai197d ago (Edited 197d ago )

Easily one of the best and most balanced MP modes out there, maybe one weirdly one sided game every 10 or so games, but God the slower pace and reliance on teamwork just made that game sing. I hope factions 2 keeps the simplicity of the first, but with the talks of the whole GAAS focus, I'm concerned about it

StormSnooper197d ago (Edited 197d ago )

But the term “gaas focus” only appears to apply to Sony whereas everyone else is doing it too.

Even though Sony doesnt even have a gaas game yet, they already get criticized for “being gaas focused”. There are lots of “gaas focused” games out, but no one mentions that (i.e. Diablo).

isarai197d ago (Edited 197d ago )

@StormTrooper

Tons of people mention that wtf are you talking about? 🤣 It's like the 2nd biggest criticism of modern AAA games under games launched broken And the reason people are bringing it up with PlayStation is that's literally what they said their focus was shifting to. And we're planning on releasing 10 live service games within the next fiscal year. PlayStation fans don't like it because that style of game is the complete opposite of why fans love PlayStation 1st party games to start with. One or two? Perfectly fine, there's certainly a place for those, but 10!? Then we start hearing leaks that it's that initiative that is causing the delays, silence and added struggle for all these 1st party devs for something no one was even asking for. Have you been living under a rock?

shinoff2183197d ago

I'm completly against all the gaas games and have no intention of playing any. I don't think all 10 of those games were to come out within 1 fiscal year.

Inverno198d ago

Good good still anticipating this!

StormSnooper198d ago

Im hyped for this. Factions was amazing. Make it much more deep and you could have something special.

RNTody198d ago

I'm worried about this game. The original Last of Us multiplayer was surprisingly good and suspenseful, something different, but this game has been silent for so long I'm baffled as to what the problem is. They already have the template, it's not like factions needs to go back to the drawing board.

DarXyde197d ago

It's Naughty Dog. The original Factions was fantastic, and one of the very few online multiplayer games that really grabbed me.

But they're not trying to do a repeat of Factions. From what we've heard since it was announced, they're really trying to break new ground with this experience. This studio is remarkable and perhaps a bit perfectionist, which doesn't really work where budgets and deadlines are concerned.

The worry is warranted. At the same time, I'm reassured to read this article and the scale of the ambition seems palpable.

That said, always, always, always temper expectations—expect a great game, but don't expect a perfect game. I've been of the opinion that their recent cash grabs were undertaken purely for cash flow.

Really, I think there are only three possible outcomes:

1. Game releases with that lovely Naughty Dog quality.

2. Game gets handed off to a studio more comfortable with multiplayer titles.

3. Game gets cancelled.

I think they'd rather take an L personally by cancelling it than releasing a game that isn't good. That's my take.

Great news it shows that Nintendo intends to continue developing ports of AAA games to its next gen platform

H914h ago

Buying studios from embracer now is a great deal, they must be dirt cheap at this point, Nintendo is a opportunist, they wait until someone fall so they get their best deal

OtterX8h ago

That is some serious brain gymnastics you have going on there. 🤔

H95h ago

I didn't do any gymnastics I can assure you, honestly I don't know why you think that, not hating I seriously don't see why you think that

ZeekQuattro3h ago

Yeah I don't know where that came from. It's rare for Nintendo to flat out aquire studios. Guess they were trying to be edgy but why flex on this studio. 🤣

banger8813h ago

I hope someone buys Piranha Bytes, their future isn't looking good right now. I love their RPGs, they're janky as f***, but they have heart and soul.

Relientk7710h ago

Nintendo saw the Mortal Kombat 1 Switch port and were like, "Yeah, these guys are worth acquiring."

You can't make this crap up lol

Profchaos9h ago

Mortal Kombat 1 was never going to port well I'm sure they told wb it wasn't going to work but wb wants that sweet sweet 140 million install base

In the end wb approved the project cleared the milestones and allowed the product to release

SonOfOsiris5h ago

Yeah this guys ported MK11 which is great, Hogwarts Legacy which is great, and MK1 is now ok, play it every day

F*** AI

"Hey Copilot, what's a good meme to prove I dislike AI".... https://giphy.com/clips/sou...

Einhander197223h ago

Two trillion dollar company that just can't wait to put as many people possible out of work as fast as possible.

It feels like every single thing they do is making gaming worse and destroying the industry.

....you know it takes people to program the AI.... right? It isnt like it is sentient. We haven't reach skynet level of situation or anywhere close to the matrix just yet.

That's next Thursday.

Why all the hate? Im actually excited about this! Always wanted this kind of immersion, and an AI companion with me all the time helping me out knowing the status of my skills/inventory/progress and giving me tips on the best approach or how to craft something specific is game changing for the industry.

Hate all you want about AI, but this is just the start and I can see the potential already. You wont be complaining in the next 5-10 years about this, but rather complain if a game hasn’t implemented it.

MrDead11h ago

Yes we can't wait for the work of others to be used without the need to pay them so that MS can profit even more from the people they fire.

I_am_Batman11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

There is no chance I'd ever use something like this, especially if it's not part of the core game design, but a layer on top of it. It's way too much handholding. Many games already feel like busy work, because they don't let the player figure things out on their own. Having a real-time interactive guide defeats the purpose of playing the game in the first place in my opinion.

If this were to become the standard like you predict, we'll see more and more video games get away with bad design, because people will just be used to ask for help from the AI companion anyway.

Number1TailzFan11h ago

Well Nintendo don't need this with some of their games these days, with invincible characters, items, easy bosses etc.. they do the hand holding built in

helicoptergirl11h ago

Takes "hand holding" in games to a whole new level.
