Report: Take-Two Patent for GTA 6 Filed for Highly Dynamic and Realistic Animations

GTA 6 will reportedly feature dynamic and immersive animations, which will change based on the weather, injuries and other factors.

Hereandthere584d ago

I really really hope series s does not hold back the true potential of this game.

GamerRN584d ago

Man, that came out of left field...

Cacabunga584d ago

I think this game is going to break the internet and the industry.. when u see how good GTA5 was at launch and how RDR2 beats it in every way and redefines open world, i can barely imagine what GTA6 impact would be

1nsomniac584d ago

@cacabunga, after rockstars truly awful releases since their main staff have quit. Why would you suddenly believe that this game is all of a sudden going to change that and be any better?

Mr_cheese583d ago

What releases have they made that wasn't outsourced?

Cacabunga583d ago

1nsomniac

It’s not black or white..
First of all, no need to have Dan Houser do the remaster. It could have turned the same if he was still at rockstar. Second, the remasters are not developed in house and they are a cash grab.
GTA6 project has been started a long time ago with Houser bros in charge and there has been a transfer of knowledge, responsibilities etc for projects of this scale.
See, i am more of a RDR fan but no denying GTA6 will be a massive hit and a step forward in open world genre. Rockstar beated themselves with RDR2 which is a much better open world than GTA5. Apply the same reasoning on GTA6 and RDR2 and your mind will blow

poppatron583d ago

Hate to say it but I think hereandthere is right, so far this gen Microsoft’s series x/s parity rule has been difficult for devs to maintain. If gta vi is as cutting edge as we’re being told in all the rumours and leaks, the series s could quite easily be worth sacking off all together. I’m still waiting for Baldurs gate on my series x for that very reason

solideagle584d ago

you think this will be released this gen lol :p

Abear21584d ago

Yeah and the next three too

gigoran8584d ago

the last time an original GTA title was released was back on the PS3 and 360. XBONE and PS4 were skipped. they can't seriously skip another generation, can they?

584d ago
ZycoFox584d ago

Even current consoles will hold it back a bit, possibly not as much as the current game on 360/ps3.. But they will for sure, see DF's comparison of Alan Wake 2 PS5 vs PC for example. Or if it's as demanding as UE5 games it could be even more of a difference between PC and console.

Obscure_Observer584d ago

"I really really hope series s does not hold back the true potential of this game."

And I want to see the lame excuses from all fanboys and developers, if this game turn out to be awesome! Specially on the Series S.

Gamingsince1981584d ago

You won't see it, because unless it's super downgraded to 720p it wont hit 30 fps on the series S ever. But enjoy making excuses when it releases.

REDGUM584d ago

Full potential will be limited if it's developed for last gen too.
I haven't heard as of yet if it's both gen's or just the newest but I'm betting it's both as RS certainly milked the last instalment of this game.

Ezio2048584d ago

I have no doubt that GTA 6 will break the industry when it releases. No matter what Rockstar does in between their releases, they have never disappointed with any of their major release.

Ninver584d ago

It better be groundbreaking. The fools have rode GTA5's wave far enough.

Barlos584d ago

I did enjoy GTA 4 but it is definitely the weaker of the mainline GTA games. The fact it went for a darker tone and less over the top satire was a bit of a surprise. A lesson that Rockstar definitely learned with GTA 5. I'm hoping this carries over into GTA 6, but in a world where every company wants to maximise their ESG score, I am not confident. Time will tell.

1nsomniac584d ago (Edited 583d ago )

GTA 4 was one of the best entry’s. In fact after replaying vice city (old favourite) I might even say the best.

But then I played the proper version on the PC.

shinoff2183583d ago

Gamingsince1981

I agree after everything you could do in San Andreas to go to gta 4 it was lackluster. I played it in the end. Good game but far from the best. My ranking goes san Andreas, gra5

Zombieburger638584d ago

I guarantee the mp will be a massive grind fest that shoves micro transactions down your throat at every turn. GTA V and rdr2 both did it and this one will as well. Not very excited for more R* bs

JackBNimble584d ago

I've been playing GTA5 online since ps3 and I have never had to pay for any microtransactions. If you're buying sharkcards that's your problem, but it's completely unnecessary. Only people who feel they need to cut corners or don't know how to make money buy sharkcards.

Zombieburger638583d ago

@Jack I’ve never bought shark cards but I stopped playing the game because of them. R* is trash.

Abear21584d ago

The real question is will it be 30fps only to be remastered again and again

blacktiger584d ago

Here we go patent troll incoming

aaronaton584d ago

Personally I think it's physically impossible that GTA will look as good as Spiderman 2. So from the get go, it's at a huge graphical disadvantage (in terms of cityscapes) I don't have faith in Rockstar anymore than I do in Valve releasing HL3.

Ezio2048584d ago

RDR2 released 5 years ago on PS4/Xbox One and it looks better than most of the games today and don't even get me started about the PC version.
GTA 6 will easily look better than Spiderman 2.

Profchaos584d ago (Edited 584d ago )

I actually loved sm2 but I'm fully confident that whatever Rockstar releases next as long as it's not a remaster will surpass it graphically since GTA IV they continue to set new benchmarks for open world fidelity.

And I'm not taking a dog at sm2 insomniac really has pushed hard to make it a showcase but hey had far different focuses to what GTA will have they wanted ray tracing and instant traversal of the city in real time Rockstar love to focus on granular details which will help them set a scene.

Yes Rockstar continue to let us down in remastering efforts GTA de was a total nightmare scenario and rdr was just a bland port but that was more an issue with the handling of legacy IP and outsourcing external crappy development teams to work on their older games on a budget but that's not the team in GTA 6

Take-Two CEO Says Rockstar Games Wants GTA VI To Be The Best Entertainment Product Ever Created

They are going to raise the price on this game.

Profchaos19d ago

Who cares I mean honestly honestly the amount of hours you can sink into this game alone would be worth the price of two games

ZycoFox19d ago

Provided they have plenty of missions to the story and lots of interactivity/side stuff, or add more afterwards.. Not much good if the game is very short or a big desert, or both.

-Foxtrot19d ago

Who cares? All of us who don't want other developers to get the same idea which they will

Nintendo already opened the flood games with their pricing now you want it to get worse? You are letting developers have the excuse.

Complete boot licking...we didn't ask Rockstar to make these games super ambitious and spend millions on it.

Also you know most of that money is just going to be raked back in thanks to the Online so why do they need to raise the price?

Profchaos19d ago

@foxtrot I totally understand the perspective of other games don't deserve this and I entirely agree. If Nintendo didn't do it Xbox would have done it twice weeks later their decision wasn't a knee jerk reaction it was hinted at and planned well before the floodgates open they had been giving away their first party titles for a long time now to gamepass subs and failing to recoup development expenses it was inevitable that the price was going up.

If GTA Vi wasn't as ambitious as it is people would riot we say we didn't ask for this but we kind of did the expectation of perfection was set many years ago and the longer the development the more we expect.

Think of half life 3 if that ever actually comes out it has to be god tier it can't be a standard shooter it has to excell same with GTA.

CrimsonWing6920d ago

Can’t wait! Like my hype has never been this high for a game. I hope it really delivers and looks like what they’re showing. Like, I’ll finally feel like we’ve entered next-gen if it does.

lucasnooker20d ago

Only game this generation I’m truly hyped for. A true AAA big budget banger pushing the hardware to the limits like the good old days!

Eonjay19d ago

While is certainly good to.see the push the machines keep in mind the average studio doesn't have the money or resources to invest into development for over a decade. It really isn't feasible for every game or even 10% of them to reach the levels of this game.

lucasnooker19d ago

@Eonjay and that’s why gaming is cooked today!

Eonjay19d ago

I get it but having spent the weekend playing Balatro, I am actually very satisfied with games of different sizes and prices. I think all big companies should have games of all ranges. And technically they already do.

Basically there really isn't a good reason for most games to push hardware to the max.

lucasnooker18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

@Eonjay There was a time we used to expect each generation to be better than the last. Smh. You think people were sharing your same sentiment when we first went from ps1 to ps2? Or ps2 to ps3? Now people actually defend the state of gaming as it is and accept mediocrity. It’s sad to see. Especially if you were there at the time. The buzz for gaming was something different!

Levii_9220d ago

I can't wait for this overblown cutscene game to come out so i never buy it and spend money on it.

pwnmaster300020d ago

Thanks for sharing.
I guess I’ll do the opposite

Yui_Suzumiya20d ago

Hell yes! Someone speaking my language for once.

GotGame81819d ago

Hell yes! Like I said, someone has multiple accounts!

b00mFargl320d ago

That's a really cool story; I'm sure your mom loves it when you tell her those stories when you come out of the basement.

Someone has multiple accounts!

Yui_Suzumiya19d ago

You know there is more than 1 person in the world who thinks GTA is boring right? Lol

Cutscene game? I probably had 100 hours gameplay in one playthrough of V. Not bad for a cutscene game

GhostScholar20d ago

Technically it looks incredible but I’m a bit disappointed that it’s turned into a franchise about heists. I miss the more carried mission structure. I miss having just one playable character too.

Putte20d ago

Exactly. It's a shame we don't have one playable character. And the boring heist all the time. Miss the more grounded story's about people.

Extermin8or3_20d ago

You realise you can have both on the story right?

LarVanian19d ago

Heists, be it bank heists or smaller scale, have always been present in GTA since GTA3 at least. That game literally kicked off the 3D universe with a bank heist (it was a cutscene albeit).
We still have no idea how the full story of GTAVI will pan out but it should really be expected that there will be the odd heist on top of other aspects of criminality.

GhostScholar19d ago

Yes but starting with gta v that was the thrust of the whole game. I just miss the mission variety of the games prior to V.

-Foxtrot19d ago

"I miss having just one playable character too"

I have to agree, I felt like I couldn't really invest enough time in anyone during GTAV because we kept switching and out of all of them Trevor was the only fresh of breath air since Michael just reminded me of Tommy and Franklin reminded me of CJ. Also only allowing you to buy certain properties with certain characters was annoying.

I'm hoping with the two characters being romantically linked it means they share all their properties and investments in the game.

PhillyDonJawn20d ago

They're definitely gonna charge 2x. Full cost for the story. $80 Full cost for the MP. $80 complete $160 Bundle with some in game currency and Cosmetic dlc. $200

Ninver19d ago

And I'll give them a nice middle finger and buy 2 other games.

fsfsxii19d ago

I’ll buy two copied just to piss you people off.

PhillyDonJawn19d ago

Why would I be pissed? Its gta id buy that sht @$300 lol. I just acknowledged the bs prices the game industry is pulling

Ninver19d ago

But why would anyone be pissed if you're dumb enough to fork over that amount of cash. It's your money lol.

Why The Rumored $1 Billion Budget For Grand Theft Auto VI Does Not Add Up

Here's why the rumored $1 billion budget for Rockstar Games' upcoming open world action game, Grand Theft Auto VI, doesn't quite add up.

twistedvoxel.com
thorstein21d ago

"Or was it i̶n̶f̶o̶r̶m̶e̶d̶ guesswork from analysts?"

Video game budgets will always be fictional, just like Hollywood movies. Unless there are receipts it's all speculation.

And Take Two has a marketing department with an already approved budget (just like studios in Hollywood).

thorstein21d ago

(Continue...I was in the Lincoln Tunnel)
Budgeting isn't included in the total cost because it is a separate budget. These companies intentionally inflate the numbers so they pay less in taxes.

This is not a new trend. And if you give your CEO $30 million per year and a game takes 5 years, you just add that $150million to the budget (CNN).

VenomUK21d ago

The costs don’t seem out of the realms of possibility. Remember that Rockstar isn’t just releasing just the GTA VI single player game, it has been building an online platform that will far surpass that of GTA V in size and scope that could last for 15 years or more - that takes significant investment.

rudero20d ago

Absolutely anything to do with the product is in the budget.
That is the very definition of BUDGET.

The majority of the budget is marketing and not producing the game.

Then said companies can tag anything else they want in said “budget”.

And the one thing that gta games have is commercials galore.

Early hands on… in the budget.
Review copies.. in the budget.

senorfartcushion20d ago

How much you have as a budget is different from how much you spend making a product. This is one thing journalists never seem to get

isarai21d ago

I don't know where they get these numbers, absolutely NO games is spending anywhere near that amount on production even including marketing. If we're talking lifetime estimates for like a 10yr plan maybe, but even that would be a very vague projection. RDR2 at the time of release cost less that GTAV did and GTAV cost about 265mil with marketing being an average of about 200-300mil each.

Lightning7721d ago

I believe it's somewhere around there. Cod is 700m$ to make. I think GTA could be around there if not more. The insane level of detail in the trailer says it all.

Yeah I believe it's around there personally.

goken21d ago

The $700m cod budget is for tax purposes imho.
I also seriously doubt a game even as top notch as GTA would cost a billion to make.

QuantumMechanic21d ago

Yeah, that would be tax fraud. Public companies are independenly audited. They cannot just put whatever number they want "for tax purposes".

thorstein20d ago

@quantum

It's literally called Hollywood Accounting when movie studios do it.

So, you believe that goken and I are wrong, and Return of the Jedi never turned a profit.

It happens all the time.

anast20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Hate to break it to you Quantum, but multi-billion dollar companies don't have to follow the rules.

QuantumMechanic20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

There's a difference between choosing how to allocate corporate/merchandising/royalt y expenses ("Hollywood accounting") and fraudulently inflating project expenses (ILLEGAL). Even if the IRS didn't catch wind of this accounting immediately, the SEC requires quarterly third-party financial audits of public companies. Corporate executives get sued and go to jail for misrepresenting company performance because it affects the value of publically-traded shares.

thorstein20d ago

@Quantim

"It's called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it."

You're doubling down and we are just trying to get you to understand.

Of course it's legal, their politicians made it so.

QuantumMechanic20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

There's nothing I "need to understand". I have no problem with "Hollywood accounting" (which is legal because all expenses are taken into account in some capacity on the balance sheet). I was arguing against coming up with some large number "for tax purposes" which cannot come from nothing; it must be documented with receipts/invoices. If a company claims total cost of a production is $700M because they included fixed operating costs, no problem there! If they claim this cost without spending this cost on some component of their operations or the project, that is fraud and they will not pass their SEC audit (if they are a public company). Period.

https://www.sec.gov/about/r...

thorstein18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

"There's nothing I need to understand. I don't have any problem with Hollywood Accounting (which is legal..."

Have a good day, guy.

To be fair, the $700 million in development costs were over the game’s lifecycle, not just development - Black Ops Cold War (2020) in this case. And of course, this also include their marketing campaign.

But then, you take into account Activision Blizzard's shenanigans for not paying taxes, even getting tax refunds, moving billions to tax havens, plus all the money paid by Microsawft and Sony for exclusive deals, and I bet you that figure is substantially way lower than $700 millions. And I do mean SUBSTANTIALLY lower than that.

Oh, and if you think Rockstar hasn't figure out that scheme by now, lol, they have. They all have.
