Let’s forget for a second that this is Spiderman 2. This is the same reviewer that gave Star Wars Jedi Survivor a 9.5 at launch. So you mean tell me this guy somehow overlooked the game breaking stuttering & other major bugs that was in that game & somehow the minor bugs & glitches that’s in Spiderman 2 is too much for him?

Come on, this is hypocrisy at its best. This why the review system in the game industry is broken.

Im about to start Jedi Survivor. Is it more of the same (enemies, locations, bosses) or is it different?

Change is good, but I'm also of the mindset of if it ain't broke, dont fix it.

its a lot of the same but with massive improvements. I got the Platinum and loved every minute of it. There are some excellent sidepieces this time around. I was able to guess part of the ending but all my friends that played it didn't, i thought it was obvious but i may have been mistaken. Either way, amazing game.

Bugs aside, he seemed to be more concerned with the game crashing and saying to make sure you back up your saves.

Mine crashed 3 times which tbh is unlike playstation, however it was no biggy and never lost any progress. Intact after all 3 crashes it started me where it crashed with either mike's or Peter saying "Oh back again" lol

I agree. After playing the opening sequence I was getting ptsd from my time w/ the dumpster fire that is ff16 - overly-cinematic and filled with qtes.

TBH, I'd likely give it a similar score. The really good storytelling moments don't save the game from its faults in some storytelling, time wasters, and more of the same but more cluttered minion combat/overly repetitive and just long boss fights. But, I'm a typically more harsher scorer than reviewers. I wish review scores weren't so weighted towards 'perfection' and more towards 'what is good' 8/10 and 'outstanding and not to be matched for a long time' 10/10. YMMV.

Note: I'm near the end but not finished (post-white and black suit unlock), but I don't see it changing since I've experienced almost the entirety of the game the way it is.

I dont see why Spiderman 2 getting so many reviews and still coming with even more reviews over the next couple of weeks and starfield the so called "biggest game of the year" got way less people reviewing it then Spiderman. Its like they can't let Spiderman stay at what it is. Open critic has some reviewers thays not even on metacritic. Anyways the number of reviewers are crazy.

I do feel reviews are subjective and everyone has different taste but the negative points given here are a little exaggerated.

I didn't like SM1 or MM but this entry is sensational. Really enjoying it so far and it's definitely not a 7/10 imo.

I had 2 crashes and one instance where an enemy was shooting me from a spot outside the mission area and every time I zipped in to hit them the game made me zip back out. Other than that no issues and didn't detract much from the game (I've had more bugs/crashes with Baldurs Gate 3 for example). Obviously reviews are subjective but a 7/10 is a bit harsh

Oh, it's very bizarre. I'm somehow still not used to it. Also, it's a 7, which is still the upper bounds. This isn't a 4 or a 2 or something else that reeks of flagrant clickbait.

I keep forgetting about the all-important Metacritic score. It's not just that the reviewer gave it a '7' - it's that they gave it a 7 AND that 7 could drop the meta score into the 80's which is OMG territory for some reason.

As I read other comments I saw someone said the metacric score tied directly into developer bonuses??? If that’s true then I can understand why I’d be pissed as a developer. If the reverse is also true where a bad score (subjective) can get me reprimanded or possibly fired then I can NOW understand why people get upset about it.

I've got to say this. In a world of Broken games. Spiderman isn't one of them. Sure it has some bugs that i'm guessing through playthroughs by many ppl did not occur. Insomniac will fix these.

But If we are going by bugs etc. Every Bethesda game ever made would be a 3 score. The games have so many bugs there's spider webs everywhere to catch them:)

This game is definitely better than that. It’s not perfect like any other game but it was very well made and fun to play.

Insomniac truly had no room for error here because the expectations were so high that the slightest nitpick would cost them major points off.

IMO this is a BS review.

I don’t get upset by these reviews. Too many reviews are in the 8-10 range, as if every game is a game of the year contender. These clickbait websites shouldn’t stop with 6s and 7s. Start handing out scores in the 1-5 range and then we’ll start moving the needle away from review score inflation.

the game ran absolutely great, i had no issues whatsoever.
"inexcusable state" to me, is a game that crashes, has gamebreaking bugs etc.

7/10 is a good score! I actually thought we’d see more 7’s than 10’s this time as we are on well traveled terrain. They stepped up visuals and character switching plus a bigger map. But I get that it’s old hat at this point and expect some 7’s.

It’s pretty much the same game as the last two which isn’t a bad thing just not really moving the series forward.

You decided that even though the game is quality and well made that just because it didn't innovate further upon itself that it deserves a lower score. A good game is a good game regardless of how many came before. By your logic every sports game or racing game should be rated low. Also you talk about Spiderman series this is the first set of 3 games that are actually way better than the other Spiderman games by many peoples personal opinion. Is 3 games really too much?
