The launch of Sega's long-awaited Virtual Fighter 5 for the PlayStation The launch of Sega's long-awaited Virtual Fighter 5 for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) gave the console its biggest hit of the year so far, according to figures released on Friday. The title launched on 8 February and topped the Japan software charts for that week with sales of almost 50,000 copies, according to data from Media Create Co. Its launch was also likely to have been one of the reasons behind a jump in sales of the console during the week of 5 to 11 February, to 23,431 units from 18,727 units in the previous week.
Microsoft just posted the third quarter of its 2024 fiscal financial results. The software maker made $61.9 billion in revenue and a net income of $21.9 billion during Q3. Revenue is up 17 percent, and net income has increased by 20 percent.
Xbox content + services up 62% while hardware down 31%... seems about right with the way they tout you don't need the hardware to play. People can play on their phones or smart tv or other means. I don't hardly play on my consoles directly since getting devices like the logitech g-cloud and ps portal. Which is to also say I have been playing more digital than physical because of these devices.
Too expensive hardware when others offer the same or more for less? Good work, Green Team.
"Despite some early successes for Xbox games on rival platforms, Xbox hardware is down by a massive 31 percent this quarter."
"Without Activision Blizzard, Microsoft’s overall gaming revenue would have actually declined this quarter."
"Xbox content and services would have only been up a single percent without Activision Blizzard..."
"It looks like next quarter is going to be a similar story for gaming at Microsoft, too."
That is crazy... so A/B/K is carrying the whole Xbox gaming.
Oh and Microsoft will be fine. Windows, Office and Cloud are growing with each pc purchase.
As of right now, there are no monopolies in the games industry, and for the sake of the medium as a whole, they never should either.
And yet the biggest tech companies in America are essentially that. They buy up all the small comps only to kill them off and steal what they have, and if they can't buy em they bleed them to death.
They buy IPs not talent. That's why these buyouts never work and the IPs die. Right now it's too expensive to develop games - but I expect that to shift maybe as AI tools can make it easier. The best games have been indie games for awhile as big developers fuck their ips to death with "games as a service" -
Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.
Oh hell yeah:

Trying to search positive news guys, while it only sold less then 5.000 units more in Japan? Which was 'likely' to have been the reason behind the extra thousands of units sold? Man it's the time of the year that makes it to rise a bit. January is the worst month of the year, February gets a little better, March is better again.
VF5 is a good game, don't get me wrong. But it's funny to see how hard the search is for good news for the PS3. After the holidays, the PS3 has hardly sold units anymore. After 3 months, the PS3 total is 1.4 million units. That's less then 500k sales a month. And before the end of March they wanted to sell how much? 6 million units? Or ship them? So 4 million will be laying on the shelves in the shops? That'll cost Sony 4 x 300 million, 1.2 billion dollars in the mean time... WHich they don't have...
@ bilal (below)
You're wrong dude. The XBOX 360 sold more then that, somewhere between 6 and 7k if I'm right in the same week. That's still about 25% of the PS3 sales in that week. Before that they sold about 40% of the PS3 sales. Which indicates that the PS3 seen in comparing with the history of Playstation there is doing bad. We all know the Japanese people are not so into XBOX. They're into strange things very much actually, like young teenage girls being abused by giant monsters with huge c*cks in manga movies and games... Sick stuff. So it's not strange they like the Playstation better I guess. The rest of the world buys Wii and 360
And again... selling 5.000 units extra, what's the fuzz about?
keep the news coming Maddens Raiders.Let the guy above eat his heart out
what about 360 which sold less than 5000 units.....so whenever u start to talk about japan always start with "360 is dead in japan ..and now moving on to ps3......"
...and the kid continues to do what he likes to do most... tch tch... pathetic case, i must say.
I'm getting my copy of VF5 Wednesday, hopefully with the 360 version of NBA Streets on the same day.
