Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sets an incredibly high bar for future PS5 games

The opening moments of Spider-Man 2 are a clear example of Insomniac showing off exactly how talented its team is. You can expect most games to open with some sort of set piece or grand moment to make a strong first impression and hook you in, but Spider-Man 2 goes above and beyond.

Really? I've seen vids on YouTube of its bugs. Have you encountered any? If so have any of them been deemed game breaking? I don't take you tube as the end all be all

CrimsonWing69207d ago

All games have bugs. If you can, point me out one you think doesn’t.

As for this game, I played it all day yesterday and only ran into a weird glitch where an NPC body model wasn’t visible, but the cup they were holding was. Nothing game breaking, but again, all games have some bugs. That’s computer programming for you just like any other software.

Abnor_Mal207d ago (Edited 207d ago )

Once I stuck a guy to a rooftop and he was half way in the floor/ground. That’s about it, but I wouldn’t call that a bug .

So far the game is great , plays great and feels smooth. Only played like three hours so far yesterday.

lucasnooker207d ago

Compare this to starfield and tell me which has more bugs 😂

Tacoboto207d ago

No game breaking bugs so far but my bike's front wheel fell through the geometry of the first gate we ride through with Harry. It eventually unstuck itself after like three seconds of moving the stick.

When we were doing a boat escort mission, and it finished the cut-scene giving us control of Peter again, the cape of the suit I changed him to clipped through his body and remained clipped through the fight.

Played for about two hours last night. Those two bugs were all that I saw; the bike would've been at worst a checkpoint restart, so I don't care as that one was funny. I'm disappointed there's a lack of polish on the Suits with extra flare - Miles Mom's hands clipped through his Power Ranger suit with extra padding during a hug.

Regardless, collision detection can be improved with patches and the gameplay has been exactly what I wanted.

darthv72207d ago

I just started and yeah I seen a few funny bugs, but nothing game breaking. I will say though, there is a huge double standard when it comes to such things. When similar bugs are seen in an XB game, people go ape shit on it but on a PS game they are tighter than the devils bung hole.

Bugs dont bother me, as I know they get fixed. I just find it funny how sides war over such petty stuff. With that said, I am digging this game like I am Forza and later today my mario Wonder arrives in the mail. Im sure I'll have fun with that as well.

October has been a great birthday month for me.

S2Killinit207d ago (Edited 207d ago )

@Darth
Really? What a bunch of crap. First of all, Sony first party hardly ever has bugs. Im sure there are numerous examples but Ive played so many first party PlayStation games and Ive NEVER come across one. Im sure there are tons but none that ive encountered while playing. Im not sure that is the case with xbox first party, but if you are talking double standard, maybe thats because xbox games have much more bugs?

BehindTheRows207d ago

@S2Killinit

Indeed. But, Darth is finally showing his true colors again. For the longest time, he would mask it and straddle the fence. He knows damn well that garbage about Xbox is not only uncalled for, but untrue. Yet, he found the opportunity to take his BS Suit off.

I prefer the transparency. :)

Seraphim207d ago

@Taco- I feel like that's why most games standardize cut scenes with the default outfit. Making every scene specific to each available costume, or suit in this case, likely takes more manpower and time than it's worth. The only reason I can make this point is due to primarily playing RPGs the past 3-4 years. Time and time again the outfit for cut scenes usually reverts back the original outfit. Sure there have been some exceptions, but even then, clipping, or some visual issue/s still pop up depending on the scene. 2 cents

InUrFoxHole207d ago

@Crimson
I don't ever recall having any bugs with the uncharted series and that includes the vita version

S2Killinit206d ago (Edited 206d ago )

Saw this title and remembered this tread:

https://n4g.com/news/257176...

I dont ever recall a time when a PlayStation first party game have entire city disappear.

(Yea yeah I know this game normally be multiplat, but MS green light release yes?)

This game will make Sony a lot of money. Spider-Man IP is so huge and with holidays coming up kids will want Spider-Man. One of the smartest IP’s Sony got exclusives

S2Killinit207d ago

What a buy Insomniac turned out to be!

Crows90207d ago (Edited 207d ago )

To be fair insomniac has been making games for PS like this for a long time.

DarkZane207d ago

Like most Playstation studios bought. 90% of the games they made were Playstation exclusive. Look at Insomniac, all they made on another platform was Sunset Overdrive and Fuse. Both of those games were bad, but Fuse was particularly terrible.

It's pretty much the same for all studios they bought. Nothing like Microsoft, who buy publishers to take games away from others. Talk about anti-consumer.

BehindTheRows207d ago

Which still makes it a great buy.

franwex207d ago

@Darkzane

Fuse was bad, yes. But Sunset overdrive was a ton of fun.

It’s okay to play games that don’t take themselves so serious all the time.

Crows90207d ago

@fran

Yes sunset overdrive had "some" fun...but it felt incomplete in terms of quality like their usual games. It didn't feel like the top notch insomniac game they're known for.

It also got extremely repetitive overtime...detrimentally so

The added Burroughs make it so much better, being able to cross the river is just sick.

LabRat207d ago

Game really is amazing. Probably the most fun I've had with a game all year. Can't wait to see what they do with wolverine

Abnor_Mal207d ago

Loving how all the old combat moves are still in your repertoire, but not a part of the skill tree like you have to get them again.

The game builds on the old with a lot of new ideas.

I'm really curious to see what he's going to do. It seems like a GTA-style game, but I wonder how it'll differentiate itself.

Goodguy0147m ago(Edited 46m ago)

A new studio making a AAA game. Yea, that'll go well. I still think new studios should only make small games for a few years to build up teamwork and trust within.

Hypercharge Unboxed Dev Saddened By Claims It'll Be 'Dead' Without Xbox Game Pass

One of the big Xbox releases heading our way in May 2024 is the long-awaited Hypercharge Unboxed, which is finally bringing its "first and third-person shooter action figure game" to Xbox consoles on Friday, May 31st.

Sadly, ahead of launch, the game's official Twitter (or "X") account has been highlighting the "trolls" who are claiming that because it's not launching on Game Pass, Hypercharge Unboxed is already set up for failure on Xbox.

helicoptergirl1d 5h ago

It's horrible what people will say, but the truth might be harsh. There is a good chance it might not do well on Xbox if it's not on GamePass. There is a strong possibility that is the case. We'll see.

When it launches on Playstation in the future you can rest assured it will sell much better. The devs have confirmed it's coming to Playstation in the future.

"It is built in the Unreal Engine 4. The game was released on the Nintendo eShop on January 31, 2020 and on Steam on April 27, 2020. The development of Hypercharge: Unboxed for the Xbox platform was officially announced on July 16, 2022, with the developers also confirming future support for the PlayStation."

ZeekQuattro1d 3h ago

I remember having this on my radar years ago for the Switch but never pulled the trigger on it. Crazy it's still not on PlayStation yet.

northpaws19h ago

And that's the problem of GamePass.

JEECE18h ago

Unfortunately once people are conditioned to expect to get something as part of a subscription they already pay for, they are unlikely to buy it a la carte. Some games, including this one, now look like "Gamepass Games" to a huge chunk of the Xbox audience. Maybe this game will buck that trend, and I wish them luck, but I'd imagine they'll have a rough go trying to sell this game on Xbox.

shinoff218318h ago

Hopefully their game not selling on Xbox doesn't stop them from bringing it to ps. I can't imagine why a developer would go Xbox first if their not on gamepass. Good luck to them though.

JEECE18h ago

Yeah I can't figure that out either. I mean I understand why you go there first if you get a Gamepass payday, but if you are just trying to sell copies it doesn't make sense. Fewer users overall, and a smaller percentage of those users are willing to buy indie games a la carte.

Jingsing16h ago

Yeah, I can't understand it either unless there is some deep routed fan-boyism from the developer, which isn't very clever if you are trying to make a living. Fatshark is a perfect example of a developer sending their games to die on Xbox and they kept doing it.

Jingsing16h ago

British guy saying Xbox is his dream console doesn't really sit right does it. 5 generations of PlayStation in the UK and you haven't figured out what console is going to make you the most money. That is the mistake you've made.

JEECE7h ago

I wonder how old he is and when he got into gaming. For a certain segment of gamers, it can be difficult to overstate how influential the Xbox 360 was.

Jingsing2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Fair, but by the end part of the 360 it was a pretty much a damp squid and then they've had two terrible generations of consoles after the 360 and still sticking with Microsoft and calling it your dream console at this point is for the birds. His game launched on Switch first now Xbox. It seems he has some preference for all platforms before PlayStation regardless of financial outcome. That isn't to say they won't do a PlayStation release. Also the UK was pretty much instrumental in launching PlayStation from a software perspective.

Epic Games Faces $1.2 Million Fine Over "Unfair Practices," Plans to Fight Back

Epic Games is facing a $1.2 million fine by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets over "unfair practices" in the Fortnite shop.

Sciurus_vulgaris1d 11h ago

It might be cheaper to simply pay the fine. Fighting said fine could cost millions due to court and lawyer fees. Fortnite generates well over a 100 million in each month, so Epic has plenty of cash.

franwex1d 4h ago (Edited 1d 4h ago )

But if they did pay it, then they are basically admitting that they did something they weren’t supposed to be doing. If they fight it, they may win and continue to have a sense of urgency for their micro transactions thus making more money long term.

Goodguy0120h ago(Edited 20h ago)

Meaning more suits to follow from others if they don't fight as well.

Not a fan of Epic nor fortnite and their micro transactions. But the game is heavily supported and is free to play, all store items are completely cosmetic.

1d 2h ago
Furesis23h ago

I'd fight back too. These are kinda meaningless reasons to fine someone like really for THAT. It's like they just wanted to make money or something.

Sephiroushin13h ago

There is a law for something, but even if its stupid follow it because if you break it you pay for it; if they knew they cant place a “buy now” in NL then just dont do it!
