Super Mario Bros. Wonder: an incredible game that shows perfect mastery of Switch hardware

Digital Foundry writes:

The original Super Mario games stand amongst the most important and influential video games ever created, but after the series shifted to the third dimension, Mario's side-scrolling adventures never quite reached the same heights. Now, for the first time since 1995, at least in my opinion, the magic of 2D Mario lives again in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

I tend to agree it's an incredible game and like the review states it's not based on pushing graphical fidelity but rather picking your target based on the hardware and nailing it

It leans more on art style and direction than graphical fidelity which gives the game more "pop" in its presentation. Probably my favorite part of Wonder is the way Mario and co. are animated.

I want this game, probably gonna do the 2 games for $100 so I can get it for $50 unless a black Friday deal brings it down to $40 which I highly doubt.

That's what I did - grabbed the voucher this morning for Wonder today and RPG Remake next month

But I've been told that Xenoblade showed perfect mastery of Switch hardware.

Barlos339d ago

Oh it's a Switch game? I thought it was for mobile phones.

To be fair you could make that argument for any 2D game really these days.

Mario Run is the only game they've ever had on mobile though, was it the graphics that made you think that?

The platform breakdowns really show how irrelevant xbox has come for selling software.

1 Hogwarts Legacy Switch 41%, PS5 26%, PS4 24%, Xbox 5%

2 EA Sports FC 24 Switch 34%, PS5 28%, PS4 26%, Xbox 12%

Yea, you can see why some developers and publishers are increasingly starting to skip XBox all together. Unless you're in a small minority of successful and highly played Gamepass games, you're pretty much taking a payout on your game just to rot and die on the service.

Not that surprising, the Switch has some killer exclusive titles, so people have to own a Switch to play them.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder Almost Had A Live Action Wonder Effect

One unused Super Mario Bros. Wonder effect would have had Mario go live action, with Mario himself humming the music and mimicking sound effects.
