Why Baldur's Gate 3's Evil Playthrough Feels So Unrewarding

Despite the sheer amount of content Baldur's Gate 3 offers, its Evil playthroughs feel unrewarding and leave a lot to be desired.

People need to stop the Tiefling cruelty. These games have always struggled with "evil" playthroughs. It's an extra alternate timeline they need to develop. It would be cool if they did an "evil" DLC.

Christopher586d ago

It's kind of the whole point, though. It's supposed to reflect similar cruelty in real life and make you hate it.

anast586d ago

True, Tiefling is my go to. I know they are supposed to be rare, but it was cool to find a bunch of them in BG3.

It’s actually done pretty well, but you have to pick The Dark Urge backstory for it to feel right. That’s kind of the mode you can play as a good guy or bad guy and both are rewarding and feel like that’s how they were intending it to be played.
I picked the dark urge play through for both my games and did good and evil because it was so interesting see how different things turn out, and they turn out VERY differently if you go out of your way to be as evil as possible lol

im almost finished with my good playthrough as a paladin...saving everyone i can, being super nice etc etc

looking forward to an evil playthrough with the dark urge, thinking might go open handed monk and run around beating everyone up that i can haha

Oh man, you’re in for a wild ride lmao dark urge actually feels like it was the intended storyline the developers wanted. It ties into the main story far more than any of the other backstories. And the differences between being good or bad have some pretty significant differences.
Have fun!

anast586d ago

Thanks for the heads up. I will do that in my next play through. There is so much in this game.

The possibilities almost seem endless!

When people talk about an "evil" playthrough in BG3 they always refer to the "murder hobo" style of play. That's such a basic and boring version of evil so no wonder it feels unrewarding. If "killing people" is your final definition of evil, I'm sorry but you're basic. There are a myriad of ways to be evil in BG3 that are rewarding and fun to do raging from manipulating events so only you come out on top, stealing, pushing others to do your dirty work and let them take the blame for it and so on

Baldur’s Gate 3 Is The Kind Of Game That Makes Me Wish I Could Play One Thing At A Time

I respect people who can dig deep on one game, and only one game, but I can't do it.

I used to play multiple games at a time but because of the time constraints I have I don’t have a choice but to play one game at a time or I’ll end up with some unfinished games. I like to get platinums for the games I enjoy the most so it can take me a long time to get to the next game.

It definitely takes some will power as I always have a stack of games I want to play at all times. But most of the games I play are really good and I am fully immersed when I’m playing a single game at a time.

raWfodog11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

Same here. I’ll focus on a game that I really enjoy and get the most out of it before moving onto the next title. That is why I have a massive backlog of games now.

Armaggedon1d 4h ago (Edited 1d 4h ago )

Same for me. I play so many games, currently playing oblivion, expedition, blades of fire, bg3 with friends , avowed, and Nioh 2. After learning more about myself and gaining mastery, I have developed an ability to get fulfillment from a game without needing to “complete” it. Unless of course, a game hooks me for the story, in which case I have to complete it to see what happens. I have discovered that in terms of gameplay, one can get most if not all of the expected experience in about 25% of progress through play.

Ninver19h ago

Sounds like renting is the best way to go in your case. No point in buying games you won't complete.

Armaggedon16h ago(Edited 16h ago)

It depends on what one deems as “complete.” For some, it is completing the story, and for others it is completing all tasks and objectives. Usually when this happens, people will feel “that was fun, whats next.” There is always a whats next. Cant think of anyone that has consumed media and thought “I am completely satisfied and will not need to play or watch another. I have simply mastered this “hunger” if you will. I am able to get so far in a game and then move to another without needing to reach a certain requirement. A benefit of this is that I do not get bored, as that game I didn’t beat still has mystries to unravel and new things I haven’t done.
