Damn, didn't realize the PS5 era was over in 3 years

goldwyncq205d ago

Almost halfway through the generation and we still haven’t seen a new game from them.

Rimeskeem205d ago

I know, I am just poking fun at the writer's word use.

isarai206d ago (Edited 206d ago )

Rough start that's for sure, but I honestly feel like the same can be said for half of PlayStations 1st party, they are dead silent for an uncharacteristically long time at this point. But the generation isn't over, and if I had to guess, I'd say this ghosting phase is why Jim is being hurried out the door before they even have a replacement. PlayStation has ALWAYS been consistent in their rate of delivery, typically 3 bangers a year, and always a couple on the horizon. I know sooner or later games will start to drop, but this has to be the biggest bald spot in their legacy IMO.

derek205d ago

@isarai, James Ryan is leaving in 6 months, there is nothing "hurried" about his retirement, lol, get real. Gamers/media seem to be having a hard time accepting that playstation will no longer be talking about games too far in advance.

isarai205d ago

That's the end of the fiscal year, that's why it's in six months. If it wasn't rushed they would have someone ready to take over, instead they have an Interim for the time being, which has never happened.

Redemption-64205d ago

Seriously, you guys live in some made-up world. Jim has been with Playstation for about 30 years and has lead PS to record breaking profits and you have somehow lied to yourself that he is being pushed out? The guy is leaving around the same time as the last 3-4 guys before him. It's like when reality doesn't fit the narrative you want, you make your own

Stanjara205d ago

Record braking because he raised everything by 35%.
Demand for ps5 was always there because of excellent ps4 games and overall quality of life improvements with ssd and 60fps.

Ryan just pissed everyone off with the pricing IMO.
That's his legacy.

Oh and PSVR2 without BC... real smooth.

ApocalypseShadow205d ago (Edited 205d ago )

That's the sad part. Because Sony is keeping their cards closer to their chest, even PlayStation fans are coming up with huge lies to fit their narrative. It's so pathetic. And they want to blame someone because Sony is not showing them a roadmap like companies would actually show all their games right away to give the competition time to counter with products. Especially when the competition is willing to buy up the industry to have competing products.

That's why they don't deserve to know shit until the games are ready to go. But they want to blame Jim for it anyway.

And then you got guys like Stan that know nothing about technology and why PS VR 2 isn't BC or the fact that the cost would have went even higher than $550. Because you would have needed to buy the HD Camera or tech and software would have made it cost more that way too.

While they neglect to mention that all PSVR games work on PS5 through BC. If they sold their headset, that's their own damn fault.

Profchaos205d ago

@stan demand was there because we were all locked inside for the first two years of the generation every console was selling like crazy because people were bored

The there's no way the psvr2 would be capable of working with psvr games it's a technical limitation it takes the average studio months of work to port a game from 1to 2 look at pixel ripped 95 or red matter 1 they weren't overnight releases they took months of work

Redemption-64205d ago

@Stanjara

Literally everyone raised prices. I remember how you some people were crying when Sony increased their prices, yet went into silent mode when Microsoft did it, even after saying they wouldn't. Also i noticed you left out the fact that he also deceased the price of the PS5, but I am guessing that part doesn't fit the narrative you are desperate to push. Never liked or hated Jim, but the amount of false narrative you and your ilk make up to coup with reality is depressing

Nah, Ps3 and Ps4 to some capacity were slow starters.

Profchaos205d ago

PS3 absolutely but PS4 no way we had heavy hitters out of the gate it was probably my favourite launch to date

Square & Bandai Namco Being Honest About Quality Is A Step In The Right Direction

Saad from eXputer: "After suffering from massive financial hits, Square Enix & Bandai Namco appear to be turning over a new leaf but I'm still unconvinced."

Nerdmaster11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

I was talking about games with some Japanese guys here in Japan, and it seems like around here Bandai Namco has a fame of making low-quality games, with the occasional gem.

About Square Enix, I believe they lack the capacity to improve. They should learn with Capcom (although even Capcom still makes some bad mistakes), but I don't think they ever will. They keep chasing whatever is new at the time (blockchain, AI...) to say "we innovate", without considering the public perception and if these things actually improve the games or not. Them releasing too many small games with no advertising also shows a lack of trust in its own products. Even with their biggest games, like turning FF into an action game with XVI and the very divisive plot changes regarding whispers and timelines in VII Remake, shows them trying to attract a new generation of gamers without understanding what made the series so big in the first place.

shinoff218310h ago

I want a true ff7 remake. With thatcsaid I'm way happier with 7 remake then I was with ff16. I'd still prefer turn based but square keep chasing these Lil kids

Snookies126h ago

Man, it is perfectly fine to prefer turn based. Turn based is amazing. But there's zero reason to call anyone who likes action games "lil kids". Liking one gameplay system over another does not make you more mature in any way.

VersusDMC9h ago

People love the new FF's overall...the problem is the abundance of 7's they release that lose money or make very little like diofield, star ocean divine force, Valkyrie asylum, harvestella, foam stars, etc. Advertising wouldn't have saved those games. Apparently Forespoken had a big Advertising budget but we saw how that went.

shinoff21839h ago(Edited 9h ago)

Star ocean divine force actually sold well from what I've read not ff type numbers but well enough. Was a dope game to.

FinalFantasyFanatic8h ago

Bandai Namco is going to Bandai Namco, I do believe that Square Enix can't change without changing the entire management, they've had these issues for more than a decade and haven't learnt, I have very little faith they can course correct. I'll still buy their better remasters/remakes like Star Ocean 2 though (not FF7R).

Asterphoenix6h ago

Namco is just milking the same Sword Art Online with lack of budget as well as anime IPs that don't go to decent developers like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. Namco deserves their losses and no future Dot Hack or Xenosaga remaster :(.

Square allocated lot of their budget on Forspoken was a mistake. Square always had management issues. Star Ocean 2 was a great remake and I found their recent entries of FF(16 and Rebirth) better than 13 and 15.
I think they were better than 360/PS3 generation where Square went really downhill.

CrimsonWing699h ago

I don’t know why NOW they decide on this, but I guess later is better than never.

Baldur's Gate 4 Has a Huge Uphill Battle Without Larian

With confirmation that Larian Studios will not develop another Baldur's Gate game, the fourth entry has a major challenge on its hands.

Larian had big shoes to fill themselves. Hopefully another studio can pull off the same miracle, but uphill battle is an understatement at this point. It feels impossible that BG3 even exists and accomplishes what it does.

franwex11h ago

I doubt anyone will attempt a Baldur’s Gate 4 for minimum a decade. It took about 20 years to get a third one for a a reason.

shinoff21839h ago

I'd just copy every single thing larian did obviously with different story and characters. Sometimes innovation isn't needed at that particular time.

RiseNShine1h ago

i remember in an interview that it was Larian asking constantly that they wanted to develop Baldurs Gate 3, there has to be some really ugly business going behind the scenes for them to leave in such a way, no DLC no sequel nothing, either they are getting very low return after the huge success, or some of the business practices they have seen are truly terrible.
