Rockstar has been slipping and slipping for years now. Just relying on questionable re-releases. Most times not even handled by them.
It seems like their motive, nowadays, is just see how much you can sell your old content to the masses. Ohhh. You ported a game, after almost a full priced release, run at a whole 60fps, while both PC and Xbox have been doing it for years.
It's obvious it was only the Switch version they were actually worried about.

"You ported a game, after almost a full priced release, run at a whole 60fps, while both PC and Xbox have been doing it for years."

Wait, is RDR 60 fps on Xbox through BC? When did that happen? I never saw that it received FPS Boost, and people on Reddit have been complaining for years about it being limited to 30 fps through BC.

Huey_My_D_Long579d ago

I don't have an Xbox but I'm pretty sure Xbox has had it at 60 because of the feature being an console feature not having to have each game do updates, was one thing I thought Xbox had over ps5...the only feature yhouhh

CobraKai579d ago

It was locked at 30 the last time I tried it. I dunno if they ever patched it to unlock the frame rate.

It’s sad that a bare bones port of a PS360 game is only getting a 60fps patch now. The $50 price tag was already an issue.

Asplundh579d ago (Edited 579d ago )

It looks better but it's still 30 Fps on the X I believe.

LucasRuinedChildhood579d ago (Edited 579d ago )

@Huey_My_D_Long

No, Red Dead Redemption 1 on Series X has a higher resolution than the 360 version but still runs at 30fps.

VenomUK579d ago

@Huey_My_D_Long RDR on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X runs at 4k 30fps.

On Xbox Series S it is 1440p 30fps.

CappyBlack579d ago (Edited 579d ago )

Even if not, that offers no "oh thank you" to a company selling an ancient game, running at pathetic specs, considering they basically want new game prices for said old game with nothing but a slight boost here and there. I can emulate the game at 60fps no issues. The Xbox version looks and plays great. A weak port is a weak port; and the reason the only console they didn't put it on was Xbox is exactly what I'm talking about. Now we need to be grateful that a patch for the game allows for 60fps months after release?
Yet again; emulation doing better than anything of what Rockstar has put out since RedDead 2. Just, you know, it doesn't cost you, basically, a full game's price .... for a re-release.

darthv72579d ago

@Huey... you are thinking of Xenia, the 360 emulator on a series X|S. Interestingly the 360 emulation layer the XBO uses can support the same type of settings as Xenia. Why they dont just make an FPS Boost fix is really up to Rockstar... not XB.

Cacabunga579d ago

This enhancement is good, now patch RDR2 with the same please!!

Sephiroth0017579d ago

The XBOX splits the backward-compatible function into three sections. Resolution Boost, FPS Boost, and Auto HDR. This has to be implemented and tested per game. Red Dead Redemption uses Resolution Boost and runs at Native 4K but FPS Boost was never implemented so the game runs at a locked 30FPS. I have an XBOX Series X connected to a Samsung QD-OLED with an FPS analyzer engaged and can confirm these numbers.

Profchaos579d ago (Edited 579d ago )

It's not it's still 30 but running at 4k on series X and one x

However PC players who play the Xbox code via Xenia can boost it to 60 you can try the same on rpcs3 however ive found that isn't as optimised as of yet plus the 360 version is better than PS3 was with increased vegitation and longer draw distances

I dont think anyone can say Rockstar is slipping. When was the last time they released a game? 2019? It was the highest rated game that year. Before then? 2013, highest rated game that year (alongside tLoU). They just dont release enough games for us to see where their actual quality currently is.

Ashunderfire86579d ago

Because they focus on milking each game for almost an entire decade! Like GTA 5 that is old ASF🤣

Deeeeznuuuts579d ago

My point exactly, they might not be the best at ports or supporting online (RDR2) but they still make the best games by far when they release one

CappyBlack579d ago

They used to release many different franchises on the regular in the time they now release one or two. They milk and milk everything they put out now, which is just RedDead and GTA. I'd hope they can put out something impressive with, basically, an unlimited budget and ten years per release.
We don't even get expansions anymore. Just credits for their online.

roadkillers573d ago

To be fair, GTA5 has been in the top ten sales for a decade. This year it is the 6th best selling game. Why wouldnt you support? GTA5 hasnt been touched yet in terms of its open world design.

“Slipping and slipping for years”. What an overly dramatic load of garbage. Rockstar has always had underwhelming ports. But when they actually release new titles, they’re masterpieces.

CappyBlack578d ago (Edited 578d ago )

Did I say their games were bad? No.
I mentioned we see less and less of them, and now they only support microtransactions. We haven't seen expansions in any of their new releases.
Other than that, just lackluster to horrible ports of ancient games. At a pretty high price as well.

What an overly dramatic defense of a giant company that becomes less and less about the consumer.

Agent75579d ago

After GTA 5, that was it from Rockstar. I thought GTA 6 would be here by now. Max Payne 3 was decent, but Max Payne 4 will be years off. Could say the same for a new Smuggler's Run and Manhunt, but never played the sequel. Never rated Bully. Like CAPCOM and Konami, Rockstar went weird. Some gamers looking for a new Midnight Club, but I didn't think it was any good. God know what's going on at Rockstar HQ.

BillyCrystals579d ago

No, that wasn’t it. They released another masterpiece called RDR2 in 2018. Games take time.

FatalityX77579d ago

It's 30 on series x, was never at 60fps

Profchaos579d ago

Between 2001 and 2013 I'd have no hesitation in calling Rockstar my favourite studio ever they made so many of my favourite games from the GTA series, red dead midnight club, manhunt, Max Payne 3 and publishing earlier max Payne games it's like they made what they wanted to but made it with love not based on consumer market research.

Fast forward to today that Rockstar is dead most of the big names have left or been pushed out with the success of GTA online the focus clearly shifted to online play and monetisation we can see this based on data mining showing much of GTA v single player DLC having resurfaced in GTA online packs.

Red dead 2 with it's phenomenal single player mode was killed off when it wasn't as profitable.

GTA 4 celebrated its 10 th and 15th anniversary with not even so much as a post about it on twitter and any ports have all come from third parties that didn't care or couldn't afford to meet the high bar set by their original standard.

I think maybe they strived for perfection to much their games became so detailed by rdr2 that you could sit and watch your hair grow and a corpse decaying and maybe just maybe they didn't need to go that far if it meant putting out a game in 3 years vs 10 I'd be happy to leave those things behind.

Gardenia579d ago

Apparantly it makes more sense to do that after the release of the game.

andy85579d ago

This should have been day one at least it would have slightly justified that ridiculous price a bit more. And I don't know why PS4 is missing this? One step forward 2 back.

Muigi579d ago

Time to get rid of that PS4 bruh

andy85579d ago

I have both, this post wasn't about me.

Mr Logic579d ago

Same reason that GTA 5 (a PS360 game) runs at 30fps on PS4/X1. The CPU is not powerful enough for 60fps.

Profchaos579d ago

PS4 ran a underpowered mobile CPU even when it launched more focused on its GPU and memory bandwidth meant that worlds that Rockstar tend to make with a large reliance on physics were never going to run at 60.

LucasRuinedChildhood579d ago

Thought the headline was about Red Dead Redemption 2 for a moment.

:(

preciousdeath579d ago

Oh man. I woulda required a change of shorts.

Abear21579d ago

Rockstar just blatantly out here trolling us

Ashunderfire86579d ago

Ok do that for Red Dead Redemption 2 as well

Personally, I'd rank Pacific Rift in my top 10. It's the best of the series.

badz14963d ago

We desperately need Motorstorm back. Evolution is no more though and this makes me sad

Cacabunga63d ago

Sly Thieves in Time
Stay the Party
Portal 2
Dj Hero
Demon’s Souls
God of war Ascension

rudero63d ago

2 of those games got railed through the “gaming media” during release.
Sly and god of war.
Both of which were fantastic games.

Cacabunga62d ago

Ascension is VERY underrated. Remake please!

Venoxn4g63d ago

Decent list.. I would put the Castle Crashers as well..

1Victor63d ago

Yes it’s a decent list of popular games with a heavy hand on FPS and no Warhawk or Starhawk 2 of the best games (not sale wise) on ps3.
I would buy a Starhawk again even if it didn’t have a graphics upgrade hell I would even take a new one with micro transactions 😱🤯

Profchaos63d ago

I've noticed a recent nostalgia for the PS3 and I don't get it for me it's been my least favourite generation to date and I've been gaming since the NES I just feel like the ambition of the developers outweighed the capabilities of the consoles so I remember lots of games running in the lower end of 20fps range and I remember for the first time ever actually disliking the duelshock 3 and it's curved triggers

Sure there were some standouts and great games but that's the only gen I switched entirely to PC gaming

darthv7263d ago

Maybe the recent nostalgia is because pretty much all of its games are trapped on that console. People want to play them on more modern hardware. hell... if XB can do it then so can Sony. there are competent emulators out there that can run on PS4/5 hardware but Sony just wont let them become official... why is that?

If we are talking least favorite generations (personally) then this one is certainly mine. i had more fun playing 8th, 7th and 6th gen stuff than 9th. And it isnt like i dont have access to do so... the heavy hitters just havent shown up anywhere close to those previous gens. The few here and there just doesnt cut it compared to the likes of constant good games that showed up in 6th, 7th and 8th gen. hell.... I'll even throw in 5th gen has been better than this one.

Profchaos63d ago

I tend to agree there's lots of amazing games locked to the PS3 like GTA IV or mgs 4 but then again my issue was never with the content the PS3 had but rather it's performance many other people have said the PS3 felt like it couldn't walk and chew bubblegum at the same time using PSN and downloading a game could take a few minutes to just start a download.

I typically don't worry all that much about performance I've never had a problem with games that run at 30 but games like crysis 2, Skyrim are good examples where the performance was so unstable you would never even touch the top of the frame cap and the hitching was worse than say Goldeneye on the n64

I think emulation is more than possible on the ps5 though it's just that Sony has no incentive to rush it's development it will likely be a ps6 feature if it ever happens at all.

But yeah the 9th gen has been so bad from a content perspective thats a given I see constant articles where people are frequently expressing their disappointment around the industry as a whole right now to much live service competition that sinks longstanding studios and consumes Devs time less ambition and games cost so much to make they have to play it safe.

The 5th gen was easily better than the 9th we had some all time greats crash, Spyro, Tony hawk, mgs, Mario,64, Goldeneye, Mario kart 64 the list goes on. The 5th gave us a new dimension and I remember being blown away by how much more open gaming had become the 4th gen with the mega drive and SNES was great and very easy to still revisit some of the greatest games of all time came out like earthbound, secret of mana, sonic , Mario world etc but saving our games was still not a standard function or a given so gaming was still evolving but it was very impressive to see some of the tricks Devs used like dithering to give us new experiences those earlier gens limitations bred innovation.

Michiel198963d ago

if XB can do it so can sony? I didn't know xbox had a cell processor in their older consoles, that's the reason why ps3 was so cool, but also the reason why games are hostage there and no, xbox did nothing similar even though their backward compatbility is good, they always had a similar architecture to their consoles.

darthv7262d ago

Sorry Michael... I guess you missed the obvious part where i said there are already emulators out that do this. and that is what XB is doing... emulators for OG and 360 games. Its why the full slate is not BC on XBO/Series.

coolbeans63d ago (Edited 63d ago )

The list is missing Folklore.
