Starfield Review | PCMag

PCMag writes:

Starfield is a massive space-based RPG with a galaxy of content to explore, but it has a surprising lack of ambition.

crazyCoconuts271d ago

"Boring main story quests" - that's not good. Since exploration is out, this is the main reason I would want to play it

EazyC271d ago

It is a common feature of RPGs to have a weak main quest compared to the side quests. I believe it's difficult to keep a strong throughline (which are by nature more linear) in a massive world

Christopher271d ago

What the heck are you on about?

Rocketisleague271d ago

Agree with Christopher, you're actually the exact opposite of what I get out of rpgs...generally.

In fact Bethesda is the only one that fits what you say

jznrpg271d ago

Huh ? In my scooby doo voice

repsahj271d ago

Vice versa dude. Main story should be great and a good sides just a plus.

TheColbertinator271d ago

What kind of RPGs are those besides Bethesda games that have weak main quests?

The Witcher
Mass Effect
Baldur's Gate
Fable

All had superior main stories over side quests

gold_drake270d ago

you are not actually defending a weak main storyline are you?

ChiefofLoliPolice270d ago

smh...wow. I cant believe you just said that.

its only boring for the first 50 hours are so after that it picks up rapidly and when they add in mods the baked landing sequences wont seem as long

jznrpg271d ago

I don’t mind slow burns but 50 hours is too much

anast271d ago

There are a ton of fetch quests.

Huge dissapointment. Bad interface (inventory management, maps) and really bad combat. I mean the enemies' iq is brutal and that makes combat not engaging at all. The game just feels morally obsolete. What a shame.

ChiefofLoliPolice270d ago

You played it yet? Lmao Is it really that disappointing? I was gonna try it on gamepass at the very least. I knew this game felt over hyped.

alexkarkar270d ago (Edited 270d ago )

Bought the premium edition. Feel like a dupe now. Playing it feels like a chore and the combat is especially bad. The enemies behave like imbeciles that absorb bulltets like sponges, but hey, at least you can hop like a rabbit while shooting them. Don't know why every other reviewer gives it 10 out 10. I played around 4 hours and was bored out of my mind. It's astonishing that it cost them 200 mil and they spent 8 years developing it to release this. Disgusting.

blacktiger270d ago

reddit all say the same thing

sadraiden270d ago

I mean, it's Bethesda. They don't make new games. They just keep making the same old game with a new coat of paint. Talk to this person. Go here. Talk to this person. Kill insanely easy monster in dungeon. Go back to talk to person. Rinse. Repeat.

The reason why most people think they like that style of game, is because 12-17 years ago (Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas, Skyrim) the games still looked good and had interesting maps. Gamers remember Morrowind fondly because it was novel at the time and is replayable because it lacks the hand-holding of all successive Bethesda titles.

ChiefofLoliPolice270d ago (Edited 270d ago )

(replying to your response to me) ahh I see so that's what it is. I knew there was nothing spectacular about this game.

I said it felt over hyped to me and looks like I was pretty spot on so far. It's starting to seem more and more like that when I read comments from here, Reddit, Twitter and even Discord. Most people are saying it's not a bad game but it's just *Meh*.

Now I gotta play to see for myself. But I'm not buying no copy of it especially the premium edition. I'll wait to try it on Gamepass.

Did you get it on Steam or Xbox store will you ask for a refund?

Ristul270d ago

I hate spungy enemies, takes all the fun out of getting head shots etc.

jznrpg270d ago

But it’s realistic to be a bullet sponge.

I feel like the second big update that releases late this year will do just that. Part of the story expansion is also new means of transportation on planets.

P_Bomb5d ago

A good DLC could turn some heads. The Destiny games got momentum that way too.

piher5d ago

What player spike?

I checked steamcharts through the link in the article and it went from 8,000 to 11.500, so yea 20% but when the game peaked at 330,000 It's safe to say that the actual effect of this update was negligible.

LostPotato5d ago

Doubt it'll ever get redemption. As many developers have said in various interviews it's beyond saving.

Just release the mod tools and expansion and move on.

Profchaos4d ago

Cyberpunk 2077 had some strong bones i disliked it on launch because I could see the potential I could see the strengths of what they wanted to achieve but it wasn't done yet
