Starfield will tantalise you with a bunch of mechs you can't use

Mechs were outlawed a decade or two before Starfield starts, so all that's left are a few unusable battlefield relics.

anast641d ago

There will be a bunch of stuff people can't use. It will be up to the modders to make this game fun.

Johnh5223641d ago

Hope we get mods on series x like skyrim.

shinoff2183641d ago

Mechs not being in the game isn't a huge deal. I've heard that it's also explained why mechanical aren't usable and not around all like that. In the end it'll end up being some sort of dlc

lucian229640d ago

No, more like limitations of their ancient engine due to them being immensely lazy. It's the same reason there aren't ground vehicles still, the engine can't handle them

Hofstaderman640d ago

Mass Effect from 2007 has the Mako.

Abear21640d ago

Same reason why ladders are still an issue and you walk up a lot of ramps in Bethesda games, the engine can’t handle ladders still. Hard to hold out hope for mech DLC when a ladder cripples their game engine. If it’s 30fps on foot, can’t imagine what it would be like in a mech with action, especially if someone was climbing a ladder at the same time.

Wretchedstain640d ago

Power armor was pretty cool, they'll probably expand on that.

jwillj2k4639d ago

Everything can be explained away as part of the Lore. “You do plan to have dinosaurs at your dinosaur park don’t you?”

raWfodog641d ago

Maybe (hopefully) future DLC will introduce the ability to pilot mechs.

Becuzisaid641d ago

Are we actually, already at the point where we're creating a list of dlc hopefuls to make this the game we really want?

raWfodog641d ago (Edited 641d ago )

Why not? What’s wrong with having a wishlist? I’m still hoping for free atmo-flight at some point. Bethesda typically have 4 or 5 DLCs that they release for their titles, some bringing new gameplay features.

Shoot, it’ll be about 2 years before I ever get around to playing the game. A lot could change by that time.

Becuzisaid640d ago

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a wishlist. Wishing to have features vs hoping you can pay an extra fee to get those features is my problem. Developers/publishers already release semi-finished games as is, let's let them know we're happy to pay double for them to finish it...

raWfodog640d ago

Ah, got it. Yeah, I can see that side of it but I generally look at it as being the price of doing business. I guess it is scummy for the people who pay full price for the game and all those DLCs. I'm in a different boat because by the time I get around to buying the 'complete' editions for games, it's usually at a greatly reduced sale price. Just an example, I picked up the Fallout 4 GOTY edition for only $25. And it's not just for Bethesda titles, it's across the board. I'm also tired of not playing complete games so I refuse to pay full price for them. That's my 2 cents.

shinoff2183640d ago (Edited 640d ago )

Hell, atleast it's an rpg. Something Sony seemed to forget is what brought alot of us ps fans.

Becuzisaid640d ago (Edited 640d ago )

@shinoff here's hoping for a Legend of Dragoon remake! Lol

Yeah I don't disagree, RPGs we're the ps1's strength. I think due to a CDs storage capacity games with prerendered backgrounds just made sense to make was part of that. Different times now for sure.

20$ for each mech - 50$ for the story line

ApocalypseShadow641d ago (Edited 641d ago )

In No Man's Sky you can. And that's a small indie developer.

Obscure_Observer640d ago

"In No Man's Sky you can. And that's a small indie developer."

Yeah, after 4 YEARS from NMS´s release.

Nice try!

mkis007640d ago

How many people developed no mans sky vs starfield. How much money did they have to spread around...fact is no mans sky did a lot of what starfield is doing first...and no mans sky has no loading screens for going planet to planet.

Ill make a bet with you that more than a few reviews will mention this...its inescapable. "Starfield exploration is exceedingly close to No Mans sky, but falls a little short as far as freedom goes."

My gamepass sub doesnt expire until the end of september, so at least my 3 year sub was good for one big bethesda game.

Obscure_Observer640d ago (Edited 640d ago )

@mkis007

"How many people developed no mans sky vs starfield. How much money did they have to spread around"

I don´t know, you tell me! All I´d remember is that NMS was hyped to the heavens, treated as first party game by Sony"

https://www.gamespot.com/ar...

And yes, Hello Games charge us FULL $60 for that game at launch like their game was AAA tier game! And it´s launch was an EPIC disaster!

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

And here we are, with people complaining about the lack of features that Bethesda never promised in the first place. Something that everybody knows that we´ll be getting down the line, making silly comparisons with an "indie" game that was released completely broken and unplayable!

"fact is no mans sky did a lot of what starfield is doing first...and no mans sky has no loading screens for going planet to planet."

Starfield is WAY beyond NMS, Starfield is actually beyond much better SCI-FI games like Mass Effect, Star Citizen, Elite Dungerous or Wing Commander! And it´s BIGGER than every one of those games ever dreamed to be.

So you can stop with your act, because you´re not looking forward to upcoming games like NMS Echoes, or Armored Core 6, or BG3, you´re looking forward to Starfield, just like a bunch of people who needs to hide behind a mask and pretend they have something better or more exciting to play come September 6, but we know they haven´t.

"Ill make a bet with you that more than a few reviews will mention this...its inescapable. "Starfield exploration is exceedingly close to No Mans sky, but falls a little short as far as freedom goes.""

I´ll take that bet! Bookmarked!

"My gamepass sub doesnt expire until the end of september, so at least my 3 year sub was good for one big bethesda game."

Yeah, right.

ApocalypseShadow639d ago (Edited 639d ago )

Lol. And how many years did it take to create Star Field? 4 to 6 years maybe?

You played yourself. Especially when they can clearly see what an indie developer is doing that they aren't. Hello never promised Mecha either. But there it is. What's your excuse again? Especially when people like you are saying NMS was being played like a 1st party game. As Xbox fans like you are playing like Star Field was created under Microsoft. It was already in production. Played yourself again. As people like you hype this game to the heavens.

Obscure_Observer638d ago

@ApocalypseShadow

"You played yourself. Especially when they can clearly see what an indie developer is doing that they aren't."

Dude, just stop. You mad because you KNOW that everything I said is the truth.

Unlike you, I didn´t made anything up regarding what I said about NMS and brought sources to back up my claims.

No disrespect to NMS, but there´s a huge chance that people who loves SCI-FI games, specially those who loves RPG, might never touch NMS ever again after Starfield´s release.

Those are the hard cold facts.

ApocalypseShadow638d ago (Edited 638d ago )

Yeah. And how many gamers stopped playing Minecraft or Rocket League after the clones waltzed in?Sure buddy. How many stopped playing GT after the clones? Guess again.

You'll be waiting for updates just like all the other Microsoft games hoping that the next download completes the game. I don't play online. And don't care for Gaas games. And don't have an Xbox to care. Get ready for those micro transactions. Hello games updates were free. Yeah. They blew it initially. But it still has features Star Field doesn't have. Like Mecha.

And it's going to be half of what it could have been anyway. Left alone, Bethesda could have put it in VR like Fallout and Skyrim or made a spin off in VR like Wolfenstein. But because of Microsoft, it'll lack that next step in immersion because Microsoft has no "high fidelity VR."

But looky here. NMS has VR too. Lol.

Fallout 4 on Switch 2 seems inevitable, but what about Starfield?

A Fallout 4 Nintendo Switch 2 port seems like an inevitability, but what about other Bethesda RPGs like Starfield.

I think all games will end up on switch from Xbox. MS has embraced going to other platforms now if games aren't doing well on Nintendo MS may be more selective in the future

On playstation they have been quite successful

anast41d ago

I'm not sure too many people want to play Starfield.

Profchaos41d ago

Phils all but confirmed they are going in hard with the switch 2

TheColbertinator41d ago

All are welcome to Switch 2. Microsoft Games Studios is interested in long term profits and market value not petty fanboy thoughts.

i believe that 100%

but not cause its difficult to work the ps5, its cause the game itself is fundamentally broken asf

RaidenBlack50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

Yea they need to fix it and I think they teased some major updates and patches this year. And as the norm we know even those won't be perfect and it'll take another year or two to reach a better state.
What Starfield also need is few more DLCs to fix the barrenness. .... and especially a substantial banger one with story and exploration to coincide with the PS5 launch and renew some interest.

dveio50d ago

"its cause the game itself is fundamentally broken asf"

Thanks.

I hate the rambling around pretty obvious things.

Such as, like you said, Starfield is just a big pile of broken code.

The latest news about Starfield's developmental environment just proved it.

badz14950d ago

If they release a PS5 version and it's still a loading screen simulator, they will just embarrass themselves.

Abear2150d ago

Corporate greed is the sole reason it’s coming to PS5. Expect the same game. This is M$ and Bethesda trying to recoup losses and capitalize on huge PS5 player base in an attempt to fund their next lame project.

neutralgamer199250d ago

Hopefully there is a huge major patch that gives the game a fresh chance

rudero50d ago

I believe it 100% because it was already being developed for PlayStation before they were acquired.

Not a rumor or a magical Microsoft push…
It was already in development.

-Foxtrot50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

They are going to have to do something to make you want the PS5 version

They can't escape all the negative coverage it's received since launch so they will need something to draw people in and honestly I can't think of anything.

It will sell, it just won't sell as well as they would have hoped for a Bethesda open world game now that they are launching late when opinions have already been made.

Hope it does pretty good, big fan of Bethesda.
But not gonna lie this game was fucking ass.

Probably my least favorite Bethesda style rpg ever.
Regretted paying to play it early.

moomoo31950d ago

It was so disappointing.. its not horrible but its a solid 7/10

Report: Starfield on PS5 Seems to Be Loaded in Backend According to Mods

The official PlayStation logo has been spotted in one of Starfield's mods on Bethesda's own creations site.

B5R66d ago

Just announce it already.

lukasmain66d ago

They should try to remove the stupid overabundance of ridiculous loading screens for the PS5 version. But I assume it's not possible because of their crap engine and/or their laziness to do anything about it. But it is possible in some instances as some modders have done so a few times for PC from what I have seen.

It will be super jarring and weird for PS5 players to see so many loading screens, I worry it will destroy any potential immersion. I don't think I could handle it honestly lol. Combining that with the uninspired gameplay, I expect it would tank my motivation to play and finish the game.

Profchaos65d ago

Yeah I feel like it was also the creation engine it was core to why I gave up on the game the forced tutorials I was still getting 4 hours in just annoyed me it did t help I had just played through tears of the kingdom st the time which had zero tutorials and being forced to stop for a guided tutorial every 20 minutes killed me I have up at 6 hours despite being a huge fallout fan

Armaggedon65d ago

If one doesnt like the screens, just dint olay the game. Just like if one doesnt not like being handcuffed, dont play a fromsoft souls game. They are integral to the games design.

BISHOP-BRASIL65d ago

Are you seriously trying to push loading screens as a voluntary design choice rather than a technical limitation in 2025? Good luck with that...

Armaggedon65d ago

I dont know… is me having input delay when I try to roll in elden ring a technical limitation?

Bathyj65d ago

Meh.
I just started Death stranding. I don't have time for that.

LoveSpuds65d ago

I am trying to wrap up my Elden Ring playthrough so I can get a replay of Death Stranding in ahead of the sequel. That new video last week has be really excited, I loved the first game, one of my fave platinum trophies.

Bathyj65d ago

This is my first playthrough.
I didn't really get it when it released.
But after that trailer I decided to give it another look.

After 5 hours, I've built my first bridge. While ïts to early to be 100% sure I think I'm hooked. I'll see how I go. It feels like a game that hard to sell to someone but if you know you know

There's just so much Kojima in the game.

LoveSpuds64d ago

Just wait until later in the game when you start building a network of zip lines. Journeys that used to take 20 mins are done on a couple of minutes, it feels so satisfying 😀

Hope it continues to resonate with you dude, enjoy!

Profchaos65d ago

If what never a matter of if but when

MaximusPrime_65d ago

I have zero interest in this game but there are people who like it. People have their personal preference.
