A new game or feature can in fact not work on last gen in one sense, and yet work on last gen in another sense. When you hear devs make this claim you have to remember it's most likely 'true', but also more complicated than most gamers would understand.

If you weren’t implying that devs are wrong when they communicate their jobs to non devs, perhaps I misunderstood you. Otherwise notice how Ratchet and Clank Rift in Time is trash on a ps4 drive for an example of this (albeit) over simplified claim being vindicated with clear subsequent evidence.

Y’know, between all this and the Rockstar CEO telling everyone about not doing lazy remasters but then does a lazy remaster and how this lazy remaster is “commercially accurate,” it’s all starting to feel pretty insulting.

Just make current-gen games like you should’ve been doing damn near 3 years ago and stop with this whole “couldn’t be done without the power of current-gen” stuff.

You guys can be really rabid sometimes.

If you read the article, he mentions the transition from the 2 worlds streaming simultaneously and fluidly. It's the same stuff you guys defended with R&C, and like R&C it would suffer from their vision if put on older HDDs. I said before that any game can be done on PS4 and Xbox One, just with significant drawbacks, loading, resolution, framerate, and overall quality would suffer.

Is Sony the only company we should believe when they say "wouldn't be possible without current gen"? I think the problem is you guys take it too literally when devs make this comment. Without the Current gen, none of these games would be as smooth as they are, they wouldn't load as fast, run as well, look as good, and be exactly what they are now.

Yoshi-P also made a comment about FF16 being possible because of PS5 SSD, they would have had delays and such, but we all know that that game can run on S/X...and I would bet it can run on last gen, with drawbacks, so he was he lying? Nope, the game wouldn't be exactly what it is now without the PS5, we would have a drawback somewhere if it was on any other console.

Just because EA is backporting SW, which WILL see even bigger problems than the current gen, doesn't mean every dev is lying. I will say it again, this is not 20 years ago, GPU from the last 7-8 years can run almost any game with dedicated dev time, they just won't be as good. The Switch is a small, slight example of this...they have games that were on PS4 and Xbox One running on old Nvidia tech, and they manage to run DOOM 2016 and Eternal on it.

Well, the original was so broken regardless of the machine it was running on. Hopefully they know what they're doing this time around and push out a game worthy of playing to the end.

I'm still a little irked about the original. I fell through the floor multiple times, my quest got bugged and had to start a new game. A couple of bosses didn't even fight me, and the game in general was just poorly designed. I hope we don't see any of that mess.
