No one talking about this?? It looked super unique! Definitely keeping my eye on it!

IKR all these people are doing is whining how bad the SoP is. Like this is there first time with SoP. While me looking at this game and dynasty warriors origins and a few others like ok looks good to me.

Christopher348d ago

Both this and Where Winds Meet seem like a potential for new IPs in the arena of JRPGs. This one looks like a lot more focus on environs and story and I'm intrigued to see how the multiple characters play out in the story. I think Where Winds Meet is a bit more like Sekiro, but not as difficult I don't think.

Chevalier348d ago

Not JRPGs. Both are Wuxia type games made by Chinese studios set in Dynasty settings

Christopher348d ago

Eh, sure. Technically not, but definitely looking very much like. JRPG-like.

shinoff2183347d ago

Looked more like just action games to me. Maybe I missed something that makes it a jrpg

Christopher347d ago (Edited 347d ago )

Guess opinions, but it doesn't look or play like a typical Western RPG to me and Wuxia may have slightly different art styles in clothing and character designs, but otherwise has been copying JRPG in gameplay and design. My immediate thoughts swing to multiple Japanese developed souls-likes. Then there's the world and very character focused story elements that look very reminiscent of FromSoftware open worlds and FF cut scenes.

I thought it was very interesting until I read it was a free to play game.

The_Hooligan347d ago

Hope it is not a gotcha game. I personally do not play those games but doesn't mean others cannot enjoy them. I will wait and see how the FTP works for this game. The gameplay looked really good though. This and where the winds meet both looked great. Are these multiplatform or exclusives? I don't think I saw or read anywhere if they were or not.

My game of the show was Astro bot. Buying day one.

After the success of stellar blade Sony is jumping on these souls like games. Love the look and the combat style.

Christopher348d ago (Edited 348d ago )

You do realize these deals were done months ago, right? They're just investing a ton in Japanese studios in general. For better or for worse.

neutralgamer1992348d ago

Most times years ago. It's not their first console they know what they are doing. Other company spends 100 billion and can't even stay competitive

VersusDMC348d ago

These are chinese studios. And Antara devs made a mobile/Switch souls like before and Sony is helping move into the AAA console space. Kinda like they did with Stellar blade.

Maybe they made the deal months ago and maybe not. But there was hype for stellar blade months ago as well.

Einhander1972347d ago (Edited 347d ago )

And it's not Japan that they are investing in it's China and Korea, they want the gacha money and China and Korea want western money and recognition.

Edit: I was reading an article a while back from a PlayStation Asia executive about how Genshin dramatically increased console adoption in Asia specifically China as they were able to pull mobile users into a relatively inexpensive console.

This is why you see the big push from PlayStation to get as many gacha games as they can on the platform, and the publishers are also eager to put their games on PlayStation. Nearly every big upcoming gacha game is coming to PlayStation.

The F2P model is also the perfect counter to subscriptions it's even cheaper for the consumer while also being extremely profitable.

***Maybe they made the deal months ago and maybe not. But there was hype for stellar blade months ago as well. ***

Sure. Feels to me like you want to make the reason for these investments based on Stellar Blade to prop it up when in reality they're just done in parallel and because all the games match what Sony sees as potential sellers to their consoles base.

***You do realize these deals were done years ago, right?***

No, I don't. Neither do you. I went with months because it's definitely the least amount of time in which such a deal would be made to then have material to show during the show case. We technically have no clue when these were shopped around and finalized for platform release or even if Sony prevented a release that could have gone to more platforms as part of the deal.

Am I The Only One Who Thinks There Are Too Many Soulslikes Coming Out These Days?

Hanzala from eXputer: "Recently, Soulslikes and Soulslike mechanics in games have become a little too frequent, to the point that I wish for something different."

isarai270d ago

It's not just you. Honestly, it feels like people have forgotten how to make a regular hack and slash without making it a souls like.

shinoff2183269d ago

I just have a hard time getting into souls like games. Even the side stroller ones which I generally really enjoy i have a hard time wanting to play them. I'm not looking forward to dieing over and over just to replay the same parts. Someday I'll try some of the ones I haven't. Lies of p seemed interesting, blasphemous, etc

isarai268d ago

My issue to, like there's definitely a place for souls-likes, and i love me some souls-likes, but theres just too many and i am starved of a good hack and slash game with linear, gratifying progression. Im tired of the whole schtick being that im going to die and keep losing bits of progress all the time.

YourMommySpoils269d ago

I disagree. There's more gacha games coming out these days, which is worst.

MeatyUrologist269d ago

Completely agree. While I do see the draw of the souls like games, as someone with limited time to game, I never play them. I just can't justify spending days trying to fight the same boss and memorize it's patterns. I miss all the old school action adventure games where I could just relax and unwind and maybe change the difficulty if it was too frustrating. Those games seem to few much rarer these days.

anast269d ago (Edited 269d ago )

Monetization is the biggest problem in gaming. Game writers should do us gamers a solid and not forget that.

"Every Other Game Is A Soulslike These Days" (from the article)

From 2021 to 2024, there were over 9,000 games released and the writer posts a picture with 30 games...I don't see how this is a problem.

lucian229269d ago

better than all the damn shooters we had the last 2 generations

shinoff2183269d ago

Ok. My above post agreed but hot damn I have to agree with this. It is atleast nice to see a change from fps games. There had been so many during the ps3 ps4 gen ughh
