Yeah , it is weird to me that they call these games and people over 30,, lBoomers . John Carmak , John Romero and most of the original ID Software developers were in their 20's when they released Wolfenstein 3d . and DOOM. As someone who is in my mid 50's I think they should be called Gen X shooters .

They aren't. It's like people calling rock from the 80s classic rock just because it's also old, when in reality it's a specific genre, regardless of how old it is.

Yeah I was thinking the same . Medal of Honor was all about hiding behind something to avoid getting killed . And movement was a lot slower. I would have added Hexxen to the list instead.

Some game-cave dwelling elder cringe-lord gamer on youtube was trying to coin this shi7 recently. He had a piss-poor random just 'cuase explanation for the name. This impressionable "opinion" piece probably got it from there. It is literally the same list of games coving the same topic. How about a big NOPE on that. AND shoot the article down for having a stupid title. It really is not doing those games any favors associating with a self-appointed and fabricated genre (especially the icky place where it is coming from), nor does it identify with the huge range of shooter types from those (oddly) decades they span under this lame-ass term. Honestly, anyone calling it that, should be called out for being click-fame hungry pose-sauce.

I didn’t know if they were alluding to the Boomer Generation , which of course were born way before video games? Either way, it’s an utterly forgettable coining, of certain type of video games.

I had always considered a couple titles in this article as steroid shooters. The Doom/Wolfenstein//Duke Nukem style games

Controversial take: Half-Life isn't a boomer shooter. While the Quake DNA is quite apparent, the levels of interactivity in Half-Life make it more than just a mindless run-and-gun. When I play Doom or Quake 2 I just want to press W, left click, and space bar intermittently.

Great list but although I love Half Life , I feel this was one the first FPS games that took the genre in the story direction. Plus there are no secrets to find .
