Spider-Man 2 Looks Like A Movie I've Already Seen Twice

After Across the Spider-Verse, I can't help but want more creativity from Insomniac.

What a stupid opinion piece, its Spider Man for crying out loud, his job is to suit up, swing around New York and take down bad guys while giving one to Mary Jane, what do they want Insomniac to do, make Spidey a tramp begging for coffee, have him searching for a cardboard box to sleep in, maybe they can make Spidey a window cleaner and we share our high scores on the net on how fast we clean windows with QTEs.

And the villains look fine, Kraven looks like he is meant to, so does Venom, he's suppose to be a big black blob of oil not look like a barbie doll FFS.

ClayRules2012274d ago

I agree. Some people are just never satisfied, looking/wanting things in certain game worlds that just don’t fit or could fit (depending on certain factors) but also aren’t needed.

When it comes to creativity sometimes a step is all you need, a step in the right direction that is, and based on the latest trailer, the studio looks to be offering not only a better game overall (we’ll of course know come this late Oct) but showing us a more personal look into the lives of Peter, Miles, MaryJane etc. one that’ll have its ups and downs, highlighting what looks to be some fun moments (like that carnal/fair) scene, which I assume will offer some gameplay in that section, riding rides, listening to the characters talk about life, maybe we’ll be able to play games specific to certain characters too? All of that stuff can ground our characters all the more in this universe, allowing us to connect with them more closely and I don’t doubt they’ll put at our hearts and surprise us in ways we don’t expect.

Markusb33273d ago

i remember an article saying gta was never impressive because you cant go inside every building

Profchaos274d ago

Spider tramp Spider tramp does whatever a spider tramp does can he swing from a web no he can't cause he's a tramp

ClayRules2012273d ago

@Markusb33

Wow, that’s such a silly opinion. Whoever wrote that article regarding GTA must have unbelievably high and UNREALISTIC expectations for what GTA can/should strive to offer players when it comes to enterable buildings (in which we know in a world like GTA the variety of unique buildings is vast) and isn’t beneficial for right now. If that one issue has that person looking at GTA as unimpressive, they’ll never be impressed with the many things it does so incredibly well.

In GTA6 I know Rockstar are striving to offer the most enterable buildings etc in the series to date, which is great. However, each place needs to have personality, character, and something to offer the player in terms of just a casual walk through the interior of the store, business, motel, hotel etc. Just eye candy for the player to appreciate and be impressed with the NPC’s living their lives in say a car dealership, actually selling cars, doing paperwork, drinking cover and so on, while also allowing it to bring fun opportunities for the player to bring chaos, while changing them, having them to get strategic in the environment they’re now in, and hopefully with the crawling/crouch mechanics being implemented in players will be able to get creative and fights will be more intense then ever inside of these buildings.

DigitallyAfflicted274d ago

I guess it’s his way to say “not my cup a tea, I won’t be playing it” not sure why we all have to know…

EvertonFC274d ago

I can already see the reviews being same old franchise getting stale reviews.
It's like someone going to see a marvel or DC movie and expecting something different pmsl 🤣😂

darthv72274d ago

I told you to go see a doctor about that...

senorfartcushion274d ago

It’s not that bad an opinion. Spider-Man on ps5 was a wonderful, full Spider-Man experience. If they had mission select for that game, we wouldn’t need another for a decade. We didn’t even need the Miles game.

It’s word for Spider-Man as a property to keep wrestling with the past. and bringing up the past. We learned that with that terrible Amazing Spider-Man rehash series to the equally-terrible No Way Home film.

ModsDoBetter274d ago

How dare you disagree! Spider-Man is amazing 10/10 with a non-recycled map! How dare anyone have an opinion that doesn't match that of the hive mind!

thorstein274d ago

@olMyerslo

Learn the difference between facts, opinions, and fabrications.

Opinions are fine, they're just like that orifice on your backside, everyone has one.

But fabrications are NOT opinions.

Einhander1971274d ago

You say that. But that's the sort of shit they have in these games to pad em out. Chasing pigeons! Maybe the next side quest will be buying a tramp a coffee. But not spilling any on the way back lol

Rocketisleague274d ago (Edited 274d ago )

Insomniac play the entire thing safe. Not only do they slightly rehash spider man stories, they rehashed batman arkham gameplay too.

You need to expect 0 innovation from either sony or ms first party games. For the longest time they have been driving away from new experiences. Leave it to third parties to innovate first, then sony will repackage a game and make it their "own".

fr0sty274d ago

Yet another "I need hits for my site, time to trash something popular!" opinion piece.

got_dam274d ago

I would play spider tramp. A spider bitten by a radio active transient. The possibilities are near limit...ed

Binarycode273d ago

As a scouse person would say.(i'm not scouse, just popped in my head)

calm down calm down.

Totally agree though. If you are done with Spiderman then play other titles. They are good games, but there's plenty of other titles to dig into. I'm quite sure insomniac have another unnamed title in the works. They knock games out. crazy studio.

TheEroica273d ago

Opinions are for everyone and you don't have to agree with it.... But know that someone somewhere thinks your opinions are stupid as well.

-Foxtrot274d ago

If you’re basing this off the Across the Spiderverse films I don’t think Insomaiac could do anything for you that would be creative enough to be “different”…those films have the multiverse at its core, how creative enough could you be to surpass them when your game is more grounded in one Universe.

Point is, it’s just a good old fashioned Spiderman story with its own take.

SinisterMister274d ago

This is THE comment. Extremely agreed.

TheKingKratos274d ago

This article is being made to bash the game simply because it's Playstation game ... And his reasoning is beyond stupid as well.

Sonic1881274d ago

I agree with you there 💯 👍

CrimsonWing69274d ago

"Point is, it’s just a good old fashioned Spiderman story with its own take."

Exactly, Fox and that's all some of us are looking for.

We don't need it to be some dramatically different take on a Spider-Man story.

Unknown_Gamer5794274d ago

Sony is laughing all the way to the bank either way, as they produce the Spider-Man films, including the Spiderverse ones.

But yeah, dumb article.

--Onilink--273d ago (Edited 273d ago )

To be fair, even based on the first Spiderman game they did went with a different take by using Mr Negative and even Doc Oc was more nuanced and different than most recent film and game interpretations (and Miles Morales also went with an unusual enemy too)

I couldn’t really argue against the opinion that the trailers for SP2 do seem to be threading the same Venom story (for the most part) that we have seen before, BUT Spiderman 1 actually wasn’t that different and the story was more interesting in the final game, so I can definitely give them the benefit of the doubt (also, even if its the same usual story doesn’t mean the game would be bad)

Still though, all of these comic book characters have so many different and varied stories that can be done, that its kind of sad to see so many comments in this article saying the same usual stories are all we should expect from a Spiderman game

Sonic1881274d ago

And it's still going to sell well 😀

P_Bomb274d ago (Edited 274d ago )

“ I can't help but feel totally unengaged by it, wishing it would end up as something much more daring. Think The Last of Us Part 2, for instance, in which Naughty Dog didn't just deliver what fans wanted; it took a huge risk and ultimately made the right call. I adore that.”

But TLOU2 was divisive AF. Who wants to see Peter get his cranium crushed, lol? Leave the edgy stuff to original IP. Not a comic book caper my kid’s looking forward to.

Vits274d ago (Edited 274d ago )

I mean Peter getting a pretty shit deal is sort of comic-accurate actually. There are lots of stories where he gets the bad end of the stick some being straight-up cruel.

P_Bomb274d ago (Edited 274d ago )

Shitty deal is one thing. Going full TLOU is another. Two games in is probably too soon to kill him.

Vits274d ago

@P_Bomb

Yeah, TLOU is sort of light in comparison to a lot of things that have happened to him... Both mentally and physically Peter has been subjected to a lot worse in the comics.

P_Bomb274d ago

By issue #2? This is only his second game in this series. There’s not even a Green Goblin yet.

Vits274d ago (Edited 274d ago )

@P_Bomb

Well, putting aside the moving goalposts.

Yes, even by issue one sometimes. Take things like Spider-Man: Reign or even the comic book version of Spider-Verse. Funnily enough, the end of that Peter is having his cranium crushed... by the villain wielding MJ's tombstone.

Not saying that they have to go to such lengths otherwise the game will be bad. But being what you consider "edgy" is very on-character for an IP like Spider-man.

-Foxtrot274d ago (Edited 274d ago )

Remember the 90s Spiderman cartoon when he’s talking to the X-Men in help curing his rapid mutations

“I can save the world 10 times over but when I need help I’m on my own”

Literally his life summed up

P_Bomb274d ago (Edited 274d ago )

What goalpost moving? Sometimes it takes a couple posts to get a point across.

“Not saying that they have to go to such lengths otherwise the game will be bad.”

Thank you!

“But being what you consider "edgy" is very on-character for an IP like Spider-man”

Fine.

"Who wants to see Peter get his cranium crushed, lol?"

Like in Into the Spiderverse?

P_Bomb274d ago (Edited 274d ago )

Into the Spiderverse wasn’t an M rated snuff film. I just don’t see TLOU2 as applicable here. MJ bent over a table, JJJ’s brains popping out on Betty Brant. I dunno man.

rippermcrip274d ago

Just because a small group of babies cried loudly about TLOU2 doesn't mean it was divisive AF. It dominated sales, reviews and awards. It won over a dozen players choice awards.

TheKingKratos274d ago

That's not the point though ... What happened in TLOU2 which is an original IP can't happen to comic book hero ...you can't take the same route as TLOu and expect that fans would welcome it with open arms

I love TLOU series to the core but it's entirely different beast here

Rocketisleague274d ago (Edited 274d ago )

Spiderman has been killed in many comics. All of them have. Get your head out of your urethra please. Have you not seen the flash melting into a skeleton?

Insomniacs games can whatever waybthey want with the story. Whatever they are going go do, violently kill spiderman or not, has been done time and time again already in comics

StrykerOfAurole273d ago (Edited 273d ago )

@rippermcrip I completely agree. I told my bf when it released that most of the negativity was just a vocal minority and that time would ultimately tell whether it was a "good" game or not. I personally love it and it's nice to see people coming around on it after finally dealing with grieving Joel.

Which Spiderman story would anyone rather they adapt? Clone Saga? One More Day? LOL.

They seem to be taking a different spin on the whole narrative anyway, so I'm intrigued to see how this plays out, and if the prior games are any indication than the "side" stories will also be really interesting. But I get it, banality is the internet pleebs oxygen.

anast274d ago

It's not for the author of this article obviously, but the game is going to be insane even if the game isn't liked by 6 people.

Aloymetal274d ago

Yea and we know which group those 6 people belong to👍🤢

TheKingKratos274d ago

You can't tell me that Xbox sales are that high ...6 people are pushing it tbh lol 😂😂

Square Enix Declares $140m Loss Amid Game Pipeline Shakeup

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth publisher Square Enix has declared a $140m loss based on a shakeup of its internal development pipeline.

What are they doing over there? Sounds like they canceled something big. I read a rumor a while back about ff9 remake . Here "Final Fantasy IX has gone through a very challenging development, the game is still in progress but may undergo changes drastic enough that we won't hear about it for a couple of years."
This could be one of the reasons if the rumor is true. That was Silknight i don't know how credible he is but it's something and it would make sense.

-Foxtrot3h ago

I hope IX is still on the cards

Just a straight up remake which they expand a little bit nothing over ambitious

If IX dosent happen then VI and VIII will never be thought of.

TiredGamer2h ago

What are they doing? Sales are falling and the costs are out of control. Big releases need to be absolute sales home runs now, and Final Fantasy sales have stagnated.

Now we know why Square didn’t fall over themselves to remake the original FF7 all these years ago. It certainly wasn’t a license to print money, at least not with what the expectations were. Each of these full on remakes drains an enormous amount of company resources for a razor thin profit margin.

TwoPicklesGood2h ago

Breaking the game up into multiple parts was a mistake IMO.

blackblades52m ago

The loses came from cancelling games nothing else.

shadowT4h ago

Do not miss Final Fantasy 16. Great game!

raWfodog4h ago

I'm waiting for them to release the complete edition bundle, but it's definitely on my list.

PhillyDonJawn3h ago

Wth is going on with the gaming industry?

mandf2h ago

Corporate investors taking everything

TiredGamer2h ago

Not rocket science. Compare sales numbers, development cycles, and budgets to the previous gens. We are all collectively burning up the industry from the inside out. Expectations are ludicrously high now for every release and sales are dropping for even the most prestigious of series.

We used to be satisfied paying $50-60 for a game that took 1/100th the budget and staff to make. Now gamers feel cheated if they have to pay the same for a game that took 100x the budget. We may be reaching the end of the line for this model of gaming.

TiredGamer3h ago

The industry implosion is continuing. Sky high budgets, prolonged development windows, stagnant sales numbers, and falling currency values (inflation) are wreaking havoc on the legacy industry. AAA games will slowly become the rarity.

CS73h ago

Sad. Rebirth was one of my favorite games in a long time. Should have sold more.

CrimsonWing692h ago

Oh I’m with you. What’s worse is they can say, “Well we tried to make this amazing game and spend all this money on, but not enough people showed an interest. So no more of these since we can’t take a hit like that.”

The industry is going to take a dramatic shift. Mark my words on this.

rpvenom1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

I think there is quite a large portion of individuals like myself who held out on buying it on PS5 because I can get it on PC eventually. To be able to mod the game and also have custom graphical settings to my liking

Square & Bandai Namco Being Honest About Quality Is A Step In The Right Direction

Saad from eXputer: "After suffering from massive financial hits, Square Enix & Bandai Namco appear to be turning over a new leaf but I'm still unconvinced."

Nerdmaster19h ago(Edited 19h ago)

I was talking about games with some Japanese guys here in Japan, and it seems like around here Bandai Namco has a fame of making low-quality games, with the occasional gem.

About Square Enix, I believe they lack the capacity to improve. They should learn with Capcom (although even Capcom still makes some bad mistakes), but I don't think they ever will. They keep chasing whatever is new at the time (blockchain, AI...) to say "we innovate", without considering the public perception and if these things actually improve the games or not. Them releasing too many small games with no advertising also shows a lack of trust in its own products. Even with their biggest games, like turning FF into an action game with XVI and the very divisive plot changes regarding whispers and timelines in VII Remake, shows them trying to attract a new generation of gamers without understanding what made the series so big in the first place.

shinoff218318h ago

I want a true ff7 remake. With thatcsaid I'm way happier with 7 remake then I was with ff16. I'd still prefer turn based but square keep chasing these Lil kids

Snookies1215h ago

Man, it is perfectly fine to prefer turn based. Turn based is amazing. But there's zero reason to call anyone who likes action games "lil kids". Liking one gameplay system over another does not make you more mature in any way.

VersusDMC18h ago

People love the new FF's overall...the problem is the abundance of 7's they release that lose money or make very little like diofield, star ocean divine force, Valkyrie asylum, harvestella, foam stars, etc. Advertising wouldn't have saved those games. Apparently Forespoken had a big Advertising budget but we saw how that went.

shinoff218317h ago(Edited 17h ago)

Star ocean divine force actually sold well from what I've read not ff type numbers but well enough. Was a dope game to.

FinalFantasyFanatic16h ago

Bandai Namco is going to Bandai Namco, I do believe that Square Enix can't change without changing the entire management, they've had these issues for more than a decade and haven't learnt, I have very little faith they can course correct. I'll still buy their better remasters/remakes like Star Ocean 2 though (not FF7R).

Asterphoenix14h ago

Namco is just milking the same Sword Art Online with lack of budget as well as anime IPs that don't go to decent developers like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. Namco deserves their losses and no future Dot Hack or Xenosaga remaster :(.

Square allocated lot of their budget on Forspoken was a mistake. Square always had management issues. Star Ocean 2 was a great remake and I found their recent entries of FF(16 and Rebirth) better than 13 and 15.
I think they were better than 360/PS3 generation where Square went really downhill.

CrimsonWing6917h ago

I don’t know why NOW they decide on this, but I guess later is better than never.
