tick tock tick tock, we'll soon see

4Sh0w393d ago

Yeah why don't we just wait and see. Personally Star Citizen seems like a overgrown tech demo that keeps sucking money to me but hey if SC fans don't mind, then good for them. As for Starfield it's a very different game with very different goals, let us play it before anointing it as a "generational game" or calling for its doom because its not like game A, B, C, D, and E.

anast393d ago

The janky graphics will not do a lot of the people that like Star Citizen. In fact, there are threads about Star Citizen fans complaining how the graphics are looking old already. Imagine they fire up a good 'ol Bethesda clunker.

RaidenBlack393d ago

Star Citizen looks "old"? Yea, Star Citizen's scope is too vast for its own good ... but looking dated? Like, really?
https://youtu.be/4xCstHneVI...
and yes, Bethesda RPGs never win awards for their graphics at launch, due their scope
(except Oblivion of course back in 2006, which launched with some cutting-edge visual tech back then on PC, only its jarring facial expression animation was its weakpoint),
but I'll say Starfield looks fairly decent and competitive, as compared to how Skyrim looked in 2011 and Fallout 4 in 2015.
Starfield is not looking jaw dropping for 2023 but not that hideous either.
^ this is an unbiased observation, mind you. Not hailing Starfield as revolutionary or anything.

anast393d ago

There are threads. It took me two seconds to find them. I can't help you anymore than I already have.

Star Citizen is a con job that will never be relesed. I mean that was obvious like 10 years ago. It should not mentioned along with actual games.

Good list I've had similar reactions to some games even ones on the list like the order and Callisto

Also I recently grabbed forspoken for, 5 dollars at a eb games Clarence sale and I am actually enjoying it more than I thought I would

Sometimes you just need to give critically panned games a chance

FTLmaster2d ago

Oh gosh, good shout on Forspoken! Genuinely forgot about that one, and haven't got around to playing it. It's on my to-buy-in-a-sale list!

Cacabunga1d 15h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

Knack was great ! Had a blast with the first one. Haven’t tried the second one though due to backlog

The Fight: Lights Out was also a game i enjoyed very much and highly detailed with great motion control when you understand how they work, which is what pushed people away from this game..

LoveSpuds1d 13h ago

Both The Order and Calisto were harshly treated in my view. I am not saying they are perfect, but the were both really solid games. I personally really liked them despite acknowledging their flaws and coincidentally, got the platinum trophy for both games.

Evil West is another really fun game that's worth checking out for sure.

andy851d 13h ago

Forspoken was great. Never really understood all the criticism. 2nd best traversal in a game after Spiderman

Profchaos1d 6h ago

Yeah gameplay wise I get huge infamous vibes with its combat starting out as low level eventually becoming a unstoppable power spewing killing machine with a wide variety of powers infamous is one of my favourite franchises obviously it's not the same but I love the combat of it so far.

ChasterMies2d ago

I feel like we’re finally starting to see a sea change in how we treat our favorite games. Sure, we all acknowledge that a game can suck and we can still enjoy it. Hopefully this results in meaningful review scores. Personally, I find a lot of bad games are better if you blast through them on the easiest difficulty. Callisto protocol on the image is a good example of this.

LoveSpuds1d 13h ago (Edited 1d 13h ago )

I really liked Calisto, harshly treated for sure and I don't necessarily think it needs to be played on easy to enjoy it. It's not perfect, but it's not the car crash the media portrayed it as either.

I have said it before, but part of the issue is that there is a mind share going on in games coverage, with all the main outfits being personal friends and talking too each other. As such, there is a risk that everyone ends up sharing in the same opinion rather than thinking from themselves. I reckon that's why some games get a universal bashing when consumers actually like the game and equally, games get great reviews across the board and the game doesnt land with consumers.

RaidenBlack2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Actually, I started liking FO76 after the wastelanders DLC ... it has been my guilty pleasure
other games I can think of Order 1886, Driveclub, Resident Evil 6 (only the Leon part), Alpha Protocol (pretty unique, needs a remake), XIII Remake (after patches), Medal of Honor 2010, Medal of Honor Warfighter, Homefront The Revolution, Enemy Front, Legendary The Box, Faces of War, Conflict: Vietnam, Conflict: Global Storm & Codename: Panzers – Cold War

CosmicTurtle2d ago

Driveclub was genuinely a good game with a poor launch. Alpha Protocol is superb, just a few archaic design choices for the time.

RaidenBlack1d 14h ago

I want past games with interesting setups/mechanics but having some flaws (due to crunch or budget) to be remade so that the gaming community can appreciate and enjoy them as was envisioned and intended by the developers. In contrast to a successful game being remade again just with prettier coat of paint.
Alpha Protocol tops that and I'll include FO:NV as well as an exception (it is popular but features were cut due to limited dev time). And also Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines I, Singularity, KOTOR II and maybe Daikatana.
There might be others which I can't recall atm.

SonyStyled2d ago

I loved Enemy Front. I pre ordered it months prior and remember calling the store to check if it came out that day. The guy never heard of it but confirmed my copy was ready to pick up. Game was simple and basic in a good way. Didn’t have any tacked on extras. A simple mission and objectives in each level. Kind of reminded me of the first Crysis in a way

gold_drake2d ago

The Order was really good. abit short

RiseNShine2d ago

I loved The Order, ridiculous graphics for it's time and a very interesting setting, it was linear but not as bad as people say. Similar thing with Callisto Protocol, i admit that i played it a long time after release so maybe issues were fixed by then, but it was a fantastic Dead Space-like horror game with some of the best graphics i've seen in my life.

LoveSpuds1d 13h ago

Yup, I am afraid to say I waited on Calisto and picked it up for around 30 quid. Once I played it on felt really badly for the devs because the game was really decent.

Squadron 42 & Roadmap Update

With the big push to release 4.0 and Squadron 42 reaching its Feature Complete milestone, our resources have had to shift around as new needs arise at an increased frequency than in the past. This created a significant challenge in maintaining the Progress Tracker. The team is working to push Squadron 42 toward the finish line while balancing this with ensuring Star Citizen receives new features, content, and updates. At this stage of development, especially with such a big focus on Squadron 42 polish, developers or even entire teams may need to shift focus quickly when necessary work presents itself. This dynamic approach is different from our usual internal flow and has required a bit more flexibility and nimble nature

This just an update about a Roadmap Update that's not ready yet, but soon.

Classic Star Citizen!

Jingsing7d ago

The actors who starred in this will probably never see their own work. Something to think about.

PrinceOfAnger6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

They already did see more than us because they worked very close with studio on the game and on every scene etc.. and they have seen the last Gameplay footage and other Trailers.
most actors don't even watch their own movies
others don't even play the games they were in
there are more than
20 actors who have admitted to not watching their own movies

Dakota Johnson. Joaquin Phoenix...Javier Bardem. ..Johnny Depp... Helena Bonham Carter.. Maggie Smith. .Megan Fox. Reese Witherspoon...

AsimLionheart6d ago

What are you going on about? You missed the whole point of his comment. Jingsing meant that the actors will probably never see their work released commercially in a finished and completed form. The game is in perpetual development and the developers have no intention of finishing it as long as they keep getting money from people. Mark Hamill will most likely be dead before this game is finished and released commercially.

Roadmap to sucking more money out of you…..parasites

Eonjay7d ago

That would be Microsoft. This is just an isolated scam.

PrinceOfAnger7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

So many angry people in the comments LoL! 🤣
acting like they paid anything for the game smh.

StarcrossedBits7d ago

You don't have to be scammed personally to recognize and be annoyed at a scammer. I've never been scammed by a Nigerian Prince but the people who run that scam still suck.

MrBaskerville6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Didn't see the last big gameplay reveal of Squadron 42? Looks awesome and since it's feature complete a release late 2025 doesn't seem too unrealistic.

If this hadn't been revealed prematurely, people would have lost their minds.

staticall6d ago

@PrinceOfAnger
People are angry because this "game" was promised to be released 10 years ago at least (almost 12 if you're counting original Kickstarter promises), in 2014, it's 2024 right now and it's nowhere in sight. And this "roadmap" update just says «we don’t have a Release View update today». They can't even update their own progress tracker («This created a significant challenge in maintaining the Progress Tracker»), promising to do this at least from november 2023. And now they're thinking about starting anew and archiving the old progress tracker (post #7038930 by JakeAcappella-CIG).

I don't know how about you, but to me this screams mismanagement and misallocation of resources, deadlines aren't being met and no one takes any responsibility for it. I would gladly pay for the offline singleplayer game, yet it's a joke at this point, they keep saying "It's almost feature complete, we're polishing" for 7+ months at least.

For G-d's sake, see the reactions and read through the comments in the source link, people are getting annoyed and fed up. And they have paid money for this.

MrBaskerville6d ago

Tbf, it is also an absurdly ambitious project. Star Citizen in itself is absurd. But what they are doing with Squadron also seems to be a lot more than what you would get in a regular AAA game. You have fully realized space flight and fps combat in the same game.

Could potentially be super janky and bad in a myriad of ways, but I fail to see how the scope of what they have shown us isn't impressive. I used to be sceptical, but I also really want to play something like Squadron and I think what they have shown us looks pretty fantastic.

https://youtu.be/IDtjzLzs7V...

AsimLionheart6d ago

First, you submit this article and then you complain about people hating on it. What did you expect considering the game was supposed to release 10 years ago and keeps leeching hundreds of millions of dollars from people but is nowhere close to being finished?

MrBaskerville6d ago

But Squadron is pretty close to being finished? Star Citizen isn't, but atleast it's very much playable and available to fuck around in.
