"The concept of a time loop isn’t uncommon among video games, especially when one attributes it to the roguelike genre where players start over from the beginning, only slightly stronger or having more resources for their next loop. Usually these types of games involve things such as escaping a dungeon, facing numerous monsters, or conquering a difficult puzzle without failing but what happens when you take a looping element and blend it with JRPG gameplay and visual novel storytelling? You get Marvelous’ Loop8: Summer of Gods. Featuring a school-life setting with an ever approaching world-ending threat, do these elements manage to blend together to create a satisfying JRPG?"
VGChartz's Thomas Froehlicher: "Loop8: Summer of Gods had the potential to be a serious outsider with an innovative approach to the JRPG genre, if only it were better executed. There's a poor amount of content and it's a technical disaster. The concept is a good hook, but everything else is so barebones that my interest dried out fast, and that's without mentioning how hard and tedious it is trying to reach the end. Loop8 is such a massive disappointment that it will make me think twice before purchasing a Marvelous game again."
Unfortunate how poor this game is...I couldn't play more than an hour. Everything feels just way way too slow. Menus are horrible.
This game has the same vibes as the old shenmue games but much worse...
Definitely one of the best games of the year. Definitely not for everybody though, lol
"Welcome to Ashihara, where August repeats eternally... Marvelous Europe today announced that "Loop8: Summer of Gods" is now available for the Nintendo Switch™ system, PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam." - Jonas Ek, TGG.
It’s not getting good scores but I figured the jrpg part wouldn’t be that great anyways so I will get it anyways at some point for the visual novel part.
Buying the limited edition soon. I know the reasons this got low scores and those reasons don't even bother me.
Loop8: Summer of Gods is a hybrid visual novel and JRPG. It draws gameplay inspirations from Persona, and has a roguelike structure.
