Review - Loop 8: Summer of Gods (Switch) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Fernando da Costa: "In conclusion, Loop 8: Summer of Gods is dreadful. It pains me to say, but it’s easy to suggest against purchasing it. Plenty of bad decisions contribute to sucking the fun from this romp and relegating it to becoming a chore. I wanted to like it, given the pedigree, and when I found out it combined my most beloved genres, I was giddy. Unfortunately, the finished product is a big failure. It isn’t all doom and gloom, of course, because I did think the writing was exceptional. It isn’t the best, but I definitely found it delightful. It’s just a shame the voices that accompany the text didn’t always deliver. With a couple of changes, I think what’s here is salvageable, but it’s currently a skip."

Loop8: Summer of Gods (PS4) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Thomas Froehlicher: "Loop8: Summer of Gods had the potential to be a serious outsider with an innovative approach to the JRPG genre, if only it were better executed. There's a poor amount of content and it's a technical disaster. The concept is a good hook, but everything else is so barebones that my interest dried out fast, and that's without mentioning how hard and tedious it is trying to reach the end. Loop8 is such a massive disappointment that it will make me think twice before purchasing a Marvelous game again."

Unfortunate how poor this game is...I couldn't play more than an hour. Everything feels just way way too slow. Menus are horrible.
This game has the same vibes as the old shenmue games but much worse...

Definitely one of the best games of the year. Definitely not for everybody though, lol

jznrpg302d ago

Do you really like it? I was going to get it despite mostly poor reviews as I don’t mind slow games from time to time

I play mostly visual novels with a strong emphasis on romance routes and also love RPG's so this is up my alley. The only part of it that I don't like is the fact that you can't skip dialog you've already read. I think that's the one blunder but everything else is fine.

Loop8: Summer of Gods Review [Capsule Computers]

Travis Bruno of Capsule Computers writes:

"The concept of a time loop isn’t uncommon among video games, especially when one attributes it to the roguelike genre where players start over from the beginning, only slightly stronger or having more resources for their next loop. Usually these types of games involve things such as escaping a dungeon, facing numerous monsters, or conquering a difficult puzzle without failing but what happens when you take a looping element and blend it with JRPG gameplay and visual novel storytelling? You get Marvelous’ Loop8: Summer of Gods. Featuring a school-life setting with an ever approaching world-ending threat, do these elements manage to blend together to create a satisfying JRPG?"

It’s not getting good scores but I figured the jrpg part wouldn’t be that great anyways so I will get it anyways at some point for the visual novel part.

TGG_overlord317d ago

Ouch...I just saw some review scores below your comment, dear me...I think that might be about it with this title really...

FinalFantasyFanatic317d ago

I was expecting it to be mediocre, wait for a steep discount it is then.

Yui_Suzumiya317d ago

Buying the limited edition soon. I know the reasons this got low scores and those reasons don't even bother me.
