One Console's Features Would Be a Game-Changer for Sons of the Forest

Sons of the Forest delivered a fun and frightening experience on Steam, and its horror could strike even deeper with one console's unique features.

The case could be made for an even scarier experience, and with the title having not yet been released on consoles, its next iteration could deliver a much more immersive experience.

Sons of the Forest is already pretty scary, but I agree, if they implemented features like that it would be so much better. Some of those new console features are game changing this gen.

S2Killinit774d ago

It can only be the PS5’s sense controller or PSVR2.

SullysCigar774d ago

PSVR2 would bring a new level of horror for this game - just like it does for Resident Evil games.

S2Killinit774d ago

True, RE8 is a whole different game in VR.

porkChop774d ago (Edited 774d ago )

Considering Sony are releasing their games on PC now they should really offer a proper bluetooth driver for using the DualSense on PC. One that lets you use the haptics and adaptive triggers. It makes no sense not to as it would give PC players a reason to buy a DualSense for PC.

dadavis1992774d ago

YES. It drives me crazy that you gotta plug it in to use those features

S2Killinit774d ago

I think Sony is more a console focused company. Therefore they will want to incentivize more people to buy consoles. Being a console gamer, I like that about them.

porkChop774d ago

I understand what you're saying but people aren't going to give up the benefits of PC gaming and buy a console just for some cool controller features. If you're selling the games on PC you should allow your customers to play the games the way they were meant to.

S2Killinit774d ago

I get you, but I disagree. I think where consoles have the edge they stand to benefit to preserve that advantage. I also game on Pc, and love the games I do play on PC (specifically strategy games), but I want consoles and PC to remain separate and distinct.

MadLad773d ago (Edited 773d ago )

PC is literally just an open platform that gives options.
The only thing consoles offer is gatekeeping.

@skill

So again. PC is an open platform. Console is a closed one. There's nothing a PC can't do that a console can, outside of Gatekeeping. Console tech is just glorified off the wall PC parts. Pretty much everything a console does can be forced on PC.
Quit with the console hardware and have the big three sell themselves purely on their games. Let the gamers choose what parts they use and performance they want.

S2Killinit773d ago (Edited 773d ago )

Not sure what you mean by gatekeeping. But you prove what I just said. If consoles only offer gatekeeping, then they stand to keep their tech (which they developed) to themselves, no?

You would think it would be in the works surely. Hmm

jznrpg774d ago (Edited 774d ago )

It says PS5 with haptics 3D sound and obviously VR with PSVR2 with those same features.

Of the four the meteora was the one that attracted me the most and the least was dream of another but if they put up demo for all of them I would try them out.

OtterX19h ago(Edited 19h ago)

Dreams of Another sounds decent, but you know what we need? Another Dreams. Or at least a remaster of the previous one. It was one of my favorite "games" on PSVR1. I used to spend hours and hours getting lost in peoples' creations, and I occasionally dabbled in building.

Christopher9h ago

Interesting that people are more interested in debating the future of PSVR2 and whether there will be a third and the games being made for the product.

Babadook79h ago(Edited 9h ago)

Sony should go the hybrid route. So many games would be even better in VR and what would the cost be to porting to VR? RE8 is my favourite experience this gen and I don't think it's cost prohibitive.

PSVR 2's Tipping Point: Will There be a PSVR 3?

The PSVR 2 is a fantastic piece of kit, held back by a lack of software support. With this in mind, will we ever see a PSVR 3?

PSVR1 sold around 10 million and PSVR2 sold around 1 million. I don't see any logical room for a PSVR3 unless they have something special. PSVR was basically PS Move for Sony, hedging their bets just in case VR was a mass market product, but it clearly wasn't. With news of Quest 3/s sales faltering badly and question marks over there even being a Quest 4 I highly doubt a PSVR3 is even being considered.

kevco332d ago

The question marks over the Quest 4 are 'when', not 'if'. Meta's new approach is smart glasses, putting a longer divide between Quest iterations. This is a good move, in my opinion. It will lead to eventual convergence of AR and VR.

lukasmain2d ago

It will be a big market as soon as they can have a completely wireless setup. When they can do that, it will be much better.

thorstein2d ago

PSVR2 sold 600,000 units in its first six weeks. It continues to be updated and supported. Latest update was this week.

Profchaos2d ago

From what I recall psvr2 was at around 4 million shortly after launch

Yesyes2d ago

Yeah no chance. Loved PSVR1 but not much to play on VR2. I’m only keeping it in the extremely faint hope that Half Life Alyx is announced.

slayernz2d ago

U Kidding right? There's heaps to play, GT7, resident evils, NMS, Hitman, Metro, TWD to name a few.....even games like mini golf were a ton of fun

crazyCoconuts2d ago

Not sure about the numbers, but I'm sure they're not stellar.
And with Yoshida's parting comments on how the entrenched leaders view PSVR it would be a big surprise if they were planning on another iteration next gen. Such a shame- I feel like they lost that innovative spirit

Ozzy24071d 21h ago

Max Mustard Delevopers estimates that Playstation VR 2 has sold around 2 million units.

Babadook71d 8h ago

I kind of agree with your points (although I will maintain there is a fair amount of amazing software on PSVR2). I think Sony should wait a while for PSVR3 and yet have back compatibility of PSVR2 on the PS6. That way developers can keep producing games, and Sony won't be "saddled" with producing 1st party support.

I doubt it, and PS2 VR is so good, I hope Sony continues to develop for it on PS6. Why not. They can expand the install base over this Gen into next.

Neonridr2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

given how quickly Sony themselves abandoned support for the headset, I don't see them taking another crack anytime in the near future. PSVR2 was so much more technically sound and delivered a much better experience over the previous model, but I think VR is losing its steam and many people were turned off from the first headset after it delivered somewhat underwhelming experiences due to the limitations of the original device.

I love VR and will continue to support it, but I'd be surprised to see a PSVR3 anytime soon.

lukasmain2d ago

VR needs to be completely wireless and a super easy plug and play. When they can do that, it will be a lot more successful.

Neonridr1d 13h ago

I mean that is the Quest ecosystem, you trade off a bit of graphical prowress but you gain in full freedom of movement.

darthv722d ago

IF there is to be a VR3, it needs to address the biggest missed opportunity that Sony is guilty of with VR2. that is it needs to support ALL of their VR titles, no matter what. The lack of full VR1 support for VR2 cannot be under stated. And even in the face of declining VR2 sales... Sony STILL has not taken the opportunity to address this omission.

I'd definitely get a VR3 if it supported not only its own but all of their previous works as well. Wireless certainly would be welcome reason as well.

Profchaos2d ago

Im a psvr2 owner I love it but I wouldn't buy a psvr 3 unless Sony made a real commitment to supporting it via games

Fun game on quest, deff picking this up for the psvr2

Babadook72d ago

"In the PS VR2 version, players can expect a range of exclusive features, including improved bike models, an animated skybox, more realistic tarmac, an animated crowd featuring flags and smoke bombs, as well as additional enhancements."

Never heard of smoke bombs being brought to events before.

Abnor_Mal2d ago

I’m going to wait and check out some gameplay, not going to make the same mistake I did with Grand Rush VR.

Ozzy24071d 21h ago

Day 1 for me Quest version was good
