Massive DDOS Attack Targets Blizzard's Battle.net Servers

Blizzard’s Battle.net service experienced significant disruptions due to a DDOS attack. This attack affected a variety of popular Blizzard titles, including World of Warcraft and Overwatch 2. While the issue has now been resolved, it highlights the challenges of relying on a single online service for all of Blizzard’s games.

Listen, I despise Blizzard. They're probably at the top of my list for disliked game companies. But this is NOT okay. Screw anyone who's involved with doing crap like this.

SullysCigar384d ago

Looks like someone else hates them too. These 'plastic hackers' suck, but you know, so does karma sometimes.

1nsomniac384d ago (Edited 384d ago )

All these kids thinking these corporations wouldn’t screw them over in a heartbeat if they could get away with it hahaha.

Sometimes grownups have to put themselves out and do things they don’t like in order to bring awareness to the unaware or plain ignorant.

This IS doing more damage to the company than any workers strike or fake apologies did.

sadraiden384d ago

If you despise Blizzard, why is a DDOS attack so repugnant to you?

CrimsonWing69384d ago

Dude, c’mon, man. It’s one thing to dislike a company and vote with your wallet. There’s absolutely no justification for hacking, being disruptive, and damaging a company through illegal means and ruining other people’s experiences.

DarXyde384d ago

CrimsonWing69,

I get the sense that a DDOS attack is what people resort to when voting with your wallet doesn't feel substantive enough. Y'know? Like, you can personally boycott them, but it really does nothing to even touch them. ABK is one of several companies I refuse to buy from and it's still pretty profitable, so my opinion doesn't really register to them. Some people go a step further and REALLY want them to feel inconvenienced or damaged, and I think that's what we're seeing now.

I'd never do it personally, but I'm not losing sleep at all when it happens.

I love it, keep doing it fuck Blizzard. I hope they do worse next time.

Sonic1881384d ago

Microsoft has to deal with them now 😂

XxINFERNUSxX384d ago (Edited 384d ago )

Yeah oh well🤣 The disagrees are the people who want to support the shitty company Blizzard, who don't give a shit about their employees, pretty sad.

Duke19384d ago

These attacks don’t hurt blizzard at all tho, they still collect $ all the same. The only ones it hurts are the gamers.

It’s really not a hard concept to understand that DDOS attacks are bad

DarthZoolu384d ago

Zero gaming was interrupted lol

Duke19384d ago

It literally said players were unable to login in the article…

DDOS attacks only hurt the users of the platform (in this case gamers)

DarthZoolu384d ago

Damn, we missed out on 3 whole overwatch 2 matches lol

Profchaos384d ago

DDoS attacks don't hurt the publishers or studios they hurt the players and these attacks are not really hacks they are disruptive attacks designed to take infrastructure offline not penetrate infrastructure.

Acti blizzard should really invest in better DDoS prevention it's becoming a industry norm it's amazing these DDoS attacks even still work these days. On the flipside most companies are always on the back leg when it comes to cyber protections until they are targeted by a successful campaign. You'd think though that everyone in the gaming industry would have looked at the Xbox underground group as a warning there's large profits and bragging rights in successfully attacking gaming companies even if it's not for profit and just to play games pre release

MadLad384d ago

Yet they still force even their single player experiences to be online.

anast384d ago

Exactly. They want you to pay full price for a product that everyone can control, shut down, and cheat. This is why not making this game F2P is sleazy.

Should Xbox move its PC Game Pass operation to Battle.net?

The sluggish Xbox app on Windows PC is arguably the biggest barrier to PC Game Pass' growth right now. Could Battle.net be its savior?

Battle.net is garbage so I'd hope not. I haven't had any sluggishness in the Xbox app though. The UI could use some work but it runs fine.

crazyCoconuts751d ago

Yeah it's fine. Saying the ui is the biggest barrier to PC gp growth doesn't make sense to me. We're not gonna turn games away because of a launcher. None of the launchers are as good as steam, but that's not a show stopper for me

lonewolf10751d ago

In what way sluggish? Would Battlenet fare any better with the amount of games that are available in the Xbox app?

RavenWolfx750d ago

No. Xbox is perfectly fine handling their own program. I have had very little issues with the Xbox Game Pass app w/ PC games or playing cloud on PC.

BrainSyphoned750d ago

I canceled my battlenet due to Blitzchung and would prefer to never install it again.

paulust2002748d ago

No, but really bugs me how bad the apps are for xbox.

Also they are a step back from the old xbox app where I could easily share to multiple groups for example.

I've now idea how a massive company in 2022 can make such a laggy buggy app. Either doesn't load data, won't open, won't update a game, etc.
