Resident Evil Survey Asks If You'd Buy A New Console For An Exclusive

Capcom wants to know if you're dedicated enough to buy a new console for a Resident Evil game.

Same here, kinda - it's the reason I bought the OG PSVR (for Resident Evil 7) and the reason I couldn't wait for PSVR2 (Resident Evil 8 Village). Now my most anticipated game is Resident Evil 4 Remake on PSVR2 in a couple of months!

I just can't play these games flat now. They just feel... flat?

Same same same. After only playing RE7 in VR I swore I wouldn't play the others until they had VR. It's just TOO good and unique of an experience to play the old way.

And I did try RE7 on the TV after beating it in vr, and it was jarring honestly. It felt like I was just watching someone else play.

Assuming a third party game came out as a console exclusive I would not solely buy a console for said game as we've seen in the past these third party console exclusives rarely last long before releasing on other consoles with the later versions sometimes getting additional content for free vs the initial timed exclusive version.

Much better off if you're purely buying consoles for exclusive games buying based on first party games which are unlikely to come to competing consoles.

I buy based off the entire library including first, second and third party and other value adds like Game Pass and PSN+ etc. The days of buying a console based only on consoles exclusives are over for many people which makes sense when you consider most gamers have more then one gaming platform often a PC.

I wouldnt, back doing ps360 days. 360 had the jrpgs I wanted to play and I learned to move on. With steam deck around these days helps.

In a perfect world where tech issues weren't a factor and porting was easier a lot of the Xbox 360 Japanese exclusives would have sold a lot better if they'd also released on PS3.

Tales of Vesperia was a good game but releasing it initially as an Xbox360 was a terrible idea for the long term health of the franchise.

@Kingnick Tales of vesperia was one of the games I wanted to played. Yeah it came out on ps3 but only in Japan some time later and now on ps4. I still moved on even though i could get it for $6 on ps store. It's feel its to late and I just move on and don't care for playing it now. That game was time exclusive the same thing people is whining about against what PlayStation is doing to a couple of games. Also to factor Xbox 360 did come out a year early.

I believe that also that's why I'm PlayStation always. They have the games that I like, as well I started on it before Xbox came around. Xbox and the 1st party just doesnt interest me at all. I will never buy one but I will play one though which I usually do somewhere else. As I said they did had some interesting jrpgs I wanted to play that was exclusive but I learned to move on and not need to go out and get a console for a few games and have it collect dust. Which happened with the Wii actually smash bros was the only game i had and i look back and was like damn the Wii was fun for a month to awhile but never played it after unless at a friend house and that was a waste.

well it depends , if it was exclusive for Playstation of course, cause Sony's console have dozens of awesome games already in its game library ecosystem, but for example if it was for Xbox absolutely no, no matter how good the game is cause in the end the game library of xbox is barely average at best and NO next gen games seems even possible for that console now due to Xbox S existence, and if it was for Nintendo hell no as well, cause anti-technology mentality, I can't expect something impressive from Nintendo since it barely reaches PS3/360 era visuals, and before someone says "bu...But.. the visuals doesn't matter if the game is fun", to all those people that have this logic so then PONG should be one heck of a game for them, lol. :D

Yes in general for me otherwise I'd only ever own a playstation as that's my main console/preference/where my freinds play.

My xsx and switch are just for GP and exclusives. I don't play any 3rd party game that are available on ps on those consoles.

So yea for me exclusives are important other wise I wouldn't waste money owning all 3.

The question asked in the survey is just to see the level of interest that people have in a new Resident Evil title, and sure it can be interpreted as an exclusive. But that would make zero sense for a third party like Capcom to do. So what is the most likely interpretation? Well, simple, if they ditch the older generation would people move to the new consoles/PC to play the next RE title?

And the reason for that is likely the sales of the RE 4 Remake. While we don't know the global distribution of it. We do know that in some places we have the info like the UK and Japan. The PS4 version amounted to almost 15% and 49% of the boxed sales respectively.

RE 4 was 18 years ago. And it came out on PS2 the same year it came out on GameCube. Higher ups already made the decision before the game even came out.

And SF 5 was partially funded by Sony.

What a silly question. NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS1, PS2, Dreamcast, 3DO, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, PS5. These are all the consoles I’ve bought for an exclusive. Can Capcom make an original must have game again is a better question.

Yeah I'd prefer they do something new and original as over reliance on Resident Evil IP can lead to franchise fatigue again.
I know they on a roll with RE remakes but It'd be nice to have something new from them in between RE release which hasn't been one for years now.

I myself have done it several times. I finally bought the PS2 in 2002 for Kingdom Hearts, the PSP in 2005 for Everybody's Golf Portable, R&C Future Tools of Destruction was the reason I bought the PS3 in 2007, I bought a PS3 Slim to replace my YLoD phat PS3 for GOW3 in 2010, bought the Vita for Uncharted Golden Abyss at launch in 2011, even bought a Special Edition One Piece Pirate Warrior PS3 Slim in 2012 and finally gave in to buy the PS5 at inflated price when R&C Rift Apart came out!

I did not. Still have my launch PS4 hooked at work for lunch break game time. Also still rocking the Spider-man Special Edition PS4 Pro on my 60Hz 4KTV at home while the PS5 is hooked to the LG C1 OLED. It's just that I bought the PS4 at launch not due to any specific exclusive. Still bought the KZSF Bundle though.

I haven’t seen the survey so I haven’t seen the said question.
But if Capcom is asking it’s not to go exclusives on PlayStation since the majority of console sales come from there but probably a Nintendo or Xbox deal ( like GameCube Re4).

Remember taking Sony’s money to prevent a game on Xbox isn’t a major hit to Capcom but the opposite would be and Microsoft would need to pay a hell of money to make it so.

My bet would be a Nintendo exclusive.

Surely Capcom wouldn't be so stupid as to make an exclusive RE game for Microsoft or Nintendo platforms but then they have form with RE Remake, various ports and RE4 on Gamecube. Really pissed me off back in the day when Capcom decided to fragment their games across Dreamcast, Gamecube and PS2 only for them to end up on PS2 eventually.

Microsoft should be getting their own internal studios in order, not funding third party timed exclusives.

I would not buy a “new” console for a single exclusive no. But I would buy a console for many games that I know, or many games that I dont know but are certain to be coming. This is why I would buy a Playstation every generation.

I bought the original GameCube back in 2005 just to play Resident Evil four which was exclusive at the time. I had a PlayStation two console during this time and if memory serves me correctly I was also putting Metal Gear Solid three Snake Eater through its paces at the time. Those two aforementioned titles went on to become my absolute all-time favourites. Didn't regret it one bit as I had a great time with the GameCube console.

A few years later I was rushed to hospital. In appreciation to the dedicated nursing staff, I donated my GameCube console with several games to the children's ward.

As I am a huge fan of Indiana Jones I may have to purchase an Xbox console in the future if that's exclusive.

When talking about exclusives and their impact on console sales and influence the best analogy I've heard to date goes something like consoles are like guns and the AAA exclusive games are bullets the gun is useless without the bullets regardless of its size

Resident evil 8 was a pretty huge deciding factor for me picking up the psvr2 and I don't regret it for a single second.

Given the headset cuddy more than a console I think the answers yes if it provides me a new experience I can't get anywhere else. Would I buy a new traditional Capcom console to play re 9 probably not unless it somehow becomes a legit competitor and it's not just Capcom games on it

Many people buy consoles to play multiplatform games like COD and Fortnite. Increasingly the must have games are multiplatform which makes sense as multiplatform games make the most money and thus have the greatest revenue streams and profit.

For RE? Probably not, I'd prefer a Steam release, generally I always grab a PS or Switch because they have multiple exclusives that I like, if it ends up there I might purchase on those consoles.

I think the last time I purchased a console for a specific game was the PS4 (it was for Neptunia V2), now it's hard to convince me to buy a console for just one game, I need multiple exclusives.

For a single exclusive, maybe not these days as money is tight AF but it would depend on how good it is. I bought a 360 for Halo 3 and a PS3 For Uncharted 2 so I've done it before. If the console provides multiple great exclusives though then I'm more than happy to purchase it.
