Classic Tekken fighter Paul Phoenix is back for Tekken 8 but not without some controversy, as the biker flaunts his blonde locks in a new Tekken 8 trailer.
It's big hair. He's a biker that looks like he spends a lot of time in the hair salon. Nothing wrong with that but I suspect he's going against the grain of biker culture.
As a long time Tekken fan, he looks like a trashy version of Terry Bogard from Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Just unappealing art in my opinion. It's not the hair.
Besides the fact, in the preview video, backgrounds are detailed but empty. No life. No people. No birds, no crowd. Just blah. No life. Same 2D plain. With DOA and Mortal Kombat extra areas that was done years ago.
I don't know. Maybe I've grown out of seeing the same fighting games again and again. With the only difference is all the flashy effects with attacks. But not a real progression on advancing the fight engine. Please don't add VR. It's not going to help.
I think that time has its toll on me, on how i view and feel toward games today compared to when i was much younger. However, this also means we are much more refined and selective, and we can immediately spot to goods and bads in games because afterall, we've seen it all. I liked to share this piece of mind for what it's worth.
So back to the topic, i agree with you, i too feel that Tekken-8 took only couple steps forward instead of making a leap. I didn't expect a major jump in gameplay, but i hoped for a significant visual update which i don't see.
@Vanfernal - I didn't realize Paul was a similar situation. I was never heavily into Tekken, to be fair. Tekken 8's Paul doesn't look anything like it though. If that is the case.
The thing is, I guarantee you that the optional costumes will have an option with his traditional flat top. How on earth are people getting bent out of shape about such insignificant things?
Another fake outrage article making up drama that doesn't really exist. First of all, in Tekken 4 Paul had his hair down too in his second costume. Second, Tekken has customizations so you'll 100% be able to give him his flat top.

What have they done to him. All they needed to do was copy his look from Tekken 3
Paul, much like Guile has always had stupid looking hair from day one. This current hairstyle is no different.
Harada mentioned that his usual hair can be added via customization.
