Xbox Series S Available For $150 Thanks To Ongoing Verizon Sale

The 2020 console is available for half its price right now.

shinoff2183799d ago (Edited 799d ago )

Definitely needs to have a disc slot. I prefer physical media to much. Would've said the same for a ps5.

Sonic1881798d ago

I wouldn't get one if it was free

Ninver798d ago

@blacktiger

See that's the difference between the average person and a hustler. Sell that sh#t lol

Sgt_Slaughter799d ago

$150 for a system that could be your all-in-one emulation station that runs GameCube games at 1440p full speed is a great deal. Helps that you could do the $1 Game Pass trick and also enjoy Xbox titles too.

DivineHand125798d ago (Edited 798d ago )

Seeing how you got disagrees for leaving a positive post for Xbox leads me to beleave that some persons are loyal to the competitors console so much that they would turn down the Xbox even if it was free.

P_Bomb798d ago

I have an X in the living room and an S in my kid’s bedroom. No regrets honestly.

Haki1112798d ago

That's N4G can't say anything good about Xbox or they get mad lol

SurgicalMenace798d ago

Perhaps it's because everything stated offers absolutely no support to the industry he's aiming to benefit from. It's like there's a whole new community who congratulates themselves for not being a contributing factor. It's no wonder MS's gaming division struggles so much.

Stanjara798d ago

I just read the article why emulation on series X/s is not that great. First if you are emulating anything xbox or x360 from a rom you could be permabanned.

Also, emulators on there are a lottery of working properly cause they have to be updated and adjusted all the time. Depending on a rom, one game can work, other can give you problems.

Controller is also questionable by software. I'm baffled by this but it seams that emulator interface gets confused what it is running on. Thinks it's a pc.

Anyways... I wouldn't bother with it.

https://n4g.com/news/253822...

There it is.

Without a disc? Uhhh it's a Gamepass machine.

FortWaba798d ago

What an incredibly ill-informed opinion.

anast798d ago

It's still too much for an emulator. Might as well go PC and get more bang for your buck.

No disc slot imo I won't buy that.

enkiduxiv799d ago

Can’t even give them away.

SullysCigar798d ago

Exactly. This is painful to watch. They slashed the prices for the last few months of last year and still were the only one of the big three to post YoY sales decline. The advertised the deals like crazy too. Watch the Xbox secondhand market explode now PS5 is more readily available, which will only speed up the xbox hardware sales decline.

At this rate, MS will make that move to games publisher focus more quickly than anticipated and I really don't see the ABK deal (whichever way it lands) changing their situation in the hardware market for the better.

ChasterMies798d ago

At first I thought, hmmm, maybe a machine to play Halo and Starfield, but you’re right. I don’t want a less than current gen experience and neither does anyone else. Still, I wouldn’t besmirch anyone for jumping in on a fire sale. I still regret passing up a Dreamcast when I saw it at a deep discount at Toys’R’Us.

Crows90799d ago (Edited 799d ago )

Never seen such a generation where a console goes down in price so darn fast. Im thinking theres going to be a gen refresh from Microsoft quite quickly.

I think its quite insulting that they release the series s but then willfully prevent xbox one x users from enjoying next gen....they could do it. They did this whole marketing about how its a monster but abandoned it quickly.

The reason series s is going down in price so fast is because it is a last gen console. Theyre not touching the series x pricing at all.

Hofstaderman799d ago

How many of them make up the Series sales? Can they discontinue it or is the proportion too large? MS shot themselves in the foot again.

EvertonFC799d ago (Edited 799d ago )

Series S is about 60% of sales roughly apparently.
No chance of a discontinue unless you want to pi** off alot of gamers when future games don't come to the system.
That would be a disaster, but at the end of the day they have to stick with that dicision now for the rest of the gen.

NotoriousWhiz798d ago

I have a Series S. Microsoft should have done better to increase parity between it and the X. I'm okay with it being a 1080p machine if it can easily match frame rates and everything else of its big brother. As is, it seems like it will eventually stop games from coming to Xbox that otherwise would have if it weren't for the S. That said, I'm gonna ride this boat until it sinks. And drink all the rum on the way there.

Chevalier798d ago

It's apparently something like 55-60% of the Series sales so doubt they could cut it off so easily

TiredGamer798d ago

Crazy to think that the split ratio means that there are probably less than 10 million Series X consoles out in the wild. Once Series S becomes irrelevant, the console gap with PS5 will be significant.

Crows90798d ago

@notorious

Yeah I'm thinking as soon as PS5 gets to that 60million base there will be more exclusive 3rd party not on Xbox due to inability to release on series s

Profchaos798d ago

Microsoft stated to digital foundry the reason for the s was because there would be no price drop on the X for a very long time making a midgen refresh a impossibility

anubusgold797d ago

@Crows90 Ps3 caught up after xbox and nintendo had stopped production and already moved on to their new consoles. The ps2 outsold the ps3 for most of its lifetime.

anubusgold798d ago

The PS3 did in a desperate move to catch microsoft and the xbox 360 never really had to cut price because they was selling.

Aloymetal798d ago

''The PS3 did in a desperate move to catch microsoft and the xbox 360''
That's normal when your competitor (360) released a rushed (RROD) console to the market 1+ yr before because they knew it was the only way to have a temporary advantage over PS3. By the time the PS3 was released, 360 had 10mil units sold and even after all that they couldn't beat the PS3's global sales. So when you can't beat your opponent at their ''worst'' is really hard to beat them at their best. Let that sink in...

Crows90798d ago

Wouldnt the desperate move be to release compromised consoles to market early in order to get a head start?

Ps3 outsold the Xbox 360 by quite a bit regardless.

anubusgold797d ago

@Aloymetal No it was because the PS3 was 600 dollars plus tax thats why they got their butts kicked at first.

It is priced at $49.99. From other articles I read, the game is more linear so probably like Mafia 1 and 2 instead of 3 (full open world). I am guessing around 10-12 hours.

RaidenBlack13h ago

Yep, I feel it'd be even more linear than the first 2

badboyz099h ago

I Already pre- ordered the Deluxe Edition 👍

andy858h ago(Edited 8h ago)

Too many massive open worlds this is refreshing. Concentrate on a more dynamic smaller area.

ZycoFox5h ago

Open is good, too open where you easily get lost.. nah. Unfortunately even Nintendo has got a taste of open world and want to make huge deserts now, this is why I prefer Mario 3D Land and World, open enough for some exploration and alternate paths but not desolate either.

Ninver7h ago

Gameplay looks fluid. Hope the story is on point.

Here we go, a nice Stuttering mess with the best game engine in the industy UE5.
