Leaving money on the table is debatable imo. Will the casuals invest their time. I dont think it will show much of anything. People like us on the internet showing are excitement arent in huge numbers all like that hardcore gamers arent the majority. I feel if it has enough downloads and sales from those not on plus that that will determine if a remake is feasible and possibly worth the cost to develop it. Personally id love to see this remade. Get rid of the button timing battle mechanic and the limit on inventory it would be even better.

Crows90578d ago (Edited 578d ago )

Hardcore gamers comprise about 10-15% of an entire base.

That's why in A consistent basis exclusives for playstation sell about 4-6million easily early on, later on about 6-8 million, and about 1million on Xbox, often less with Xbox though; later on 2-4million.

I remember running these numbers with exclusives last gen and it would normally add up exactly between 10-15% of the install base.

That's not to say those games won't continue to sell more though. There's also super popular titles that get the attention of the casuals.

shinoff2183577d ago

Exactly. If we truly are the 10 to 15 percent. It's extremely small. Large number of us but a smal percentage in the grand scheme of it all.

Gardenia577d ago

True, Legend of Dragoon is a classic but I doubt that it will appeal to the gamers that never played it. it's not on the same level as a Final Fantasy VII for example.
But what they can do is make a sort of remaster like Suikoden I and II has.

drunkenspy007577d ago

I was never a fan of this game personally. It didn't seem like a traditional RPG, rather a timing game to make sure you hit the buttons at the right time. I prefer strategy over rhythm style games, but to each their own.

ManMarmalade577d ago

It's definitely not a rhythm game

aarallen1575d ago

How so? You have to specifically time your button presses. Some people don't like doing that. That's all he said.

Ronmaest577d ago

The writing can get pretty unbearable. They really should’ve put effort into that, it takes away a lot from the game by making characters look dumb or pathetic. That and maybe as I’ve gotten older I expect a little more…

myfathersbastard577d ago

Standards have gone up. This was 90s era anime essentially with, let’s say, less than great translations. I love it. But even replaying it now, I see how far the medium has come. It was fairly high caliber for the time though.

MWH577d ago

FFVII Remake, with all of its name recognition and the other resources and muscles behind it, it could not muster the same impact of the original and had to come in pieces to manage the cost vs revenue. What's LoD compared to it? I'm not dismissing the game, but from a modern business point of view, a remake will never be green lit for a niche title with such a scope and scale.

We are in an age where corporates are so extensively and exhaustingly busy controlling and calculating, it's smothering freedom and creativity.

Snookies12577d ago

"a remake will never be green lit for a niche title"

Hmm, I do kind of agree with you. But at the same time, I never thought Shadow of the Colossus would get a remake either. Wasn't that a pretty niche title as well, back in the day? Granted, I haven't played Legend of Dragoon. So I don't exactly know how big of a game it is. Still, there's always a slim chance it may happen one day.

Name Last Name577d ago

Shadow of the Colossus remake was like The Last of Us remake. Arguably unnecessary and certainly a lot less work than remaking FF7 or LoD.

Snookies12577d ago

@Name Last Name - Fair enough, that's why I mentioned I never played LoD. So I didn't know the scope of the game.

SeTTriP577d ago (Edited 577d ago )

Don't know who the three people (at the time of this comment) are who disagreed but I couldn't find a single thing to disagree with, that's for sure.

Kinda spot on to me from a observable and business reality.

porkChop577d ago

FF7R is a complete reimagining of the original. It's not really a remake in the way that word is normally used. Bluepoint's Demon's Souls is a more traditional remake. No one is expecting a FF7R-style remake of TLoD. Even just something like the HD-2D remake of Live A Live. That would be great, and they could just clean up the translation.

Sony already has a dev that really wants to remake the game, Cory Barlog. Just let him do it. Sony used to publish a lot of RPGs back in the day. It would be great to see them put some out now.

FinalFantasyFanatic577d ago

I'm just happy with the Playstation Classics port of TLoD, it's pretty fantastic for a port of an old PS game. After FF7R, I'm afraid of seeing more remakes like that one, especially from Square-Enix, sometimes, it's best to leave them alone and just port them to modern systems.

porkChop577d ago

"After FF7R, I'm afraid of seeing more remakes like that one, especially from Square-Enix"

Agreed. I get the intent and I can appreciate what they're trying to do but it's taking way too long between releases. At least with something like the Live A Live HD-2D remake it's much faster to make and keeps the spirit of the original intact.

CrimsonWing69577d ago

Damn skippy! But I’m just glad we got trophy support at least. Loving this game so much!

DickyD1226577d ago

And I missed the first star dust not thinking about it.

Majin-vegeta577d ago

An excuse just to run through it again ;)

CrimsonWing69577d ago

They only require 30 of the 50 stars so you should be all good.

The Xenosaga trilogy, the Wild Arms games, Xenogears, Parasite Eve, Dino Crisis, Suikoden. The Warriors game I know nothing about but it looks interesting. Anybody can do a list of games they want to see get modernized I would lose my shit if Namco brought the Xenosaga trilogy to modern consoles.

It never will. The game may have been good, but it was just average at best. The kind of game that is one and done.

DickyD1226227d ago

Story was good combat was better than ffvii. Game deserves a REMAKE not a remaster

Cacabunga227d ago

We’ve been asking since ps3

Vx_226d ago (Edited 226d ago )

It was anything but average! The story and characters were highly captivating, the gameplay was enjoyable, and the world was interesting. Fans have been requesting a remake for quite some time. I revisited the game last year and found myself completely immersed in it once again. The PS1 had numerous beautiful classic JRPGs that truly deserve remakes.

FinalFantasyFanatic227d ago

I'm happy with the PS Classics port, but if they did, I'd like a port/remaster of Legend of Legaia as well (please put that on PSN).

FACTUAL evidence227d ago

I was just going to say legend of legaia REALLY needs to get the remake. Also keep the combat the same, and the OST. Legend of legaia a truly a gem. I still have my original ps1 game, mint condition.

FinalFantasyFanatic225d ago

I wish I still had my disc, I really enjoyed that game as a kid, but then the disc disappeared (I'm normally pretty good with my games, so it's strange that it's the only game I've ever lost), I have Legaia 2 still, but it's not as good as the first game, unfortunately. It's surprising the first has never been on PSN when Sony owns the license for the game, they seem content to sit on it and do nothing with it.

Spenok227d ago

We've been begging for one for decades.

Lionsguard227d ago

If any game deserves a remake and to be FINISHED properly is Xenogears.

ManMarmalade227d ago

And Xenosaga. Only had 3 parts but was supposed to have 6.

CrimsonWing69227d ago

Yea but if it does get made please don’t remove the turn-based combat.

If Square Enix can remake FF7, then why not Sony?
Remake these classics, Sony ... not recent games like Until Dawn

darthv72231d ago

Bluepoint would be the perfect studio to tackle this classic.

RaidenBlack231d ago

lets see ... Bluepoint's remakes are great ...but not total reworks like RE2 or FF7
but pretty sure they can come up with a good Remake of Legend of Dragoon

solideagle230d ago

to be fair it's a good game, not a great one. I recently played in on PS5. combat becomes stale after doing the same button skills again and again. I think they will have to overhaul combat like FF VII remake then it will shine. Story was good though!

RaidenBlack230d ago

yea, hence I said Remake not Remaster

porkChop229d ago

Cory Barlog literally said his dream project would be remaking The Legend of Dragoon. If I remember correctly, he's actually pitched it before but Sony refused to greenlight it.

RaidenBlack229d ago (Edited 229d ago )

Damn
I recall Barlog also expressed interest in remaking Silent Hill 1 once ...

XiNatsuDragnel230d ago (Edited 230d ago )

Please please remake this.

jznrpg229d ago

I’d like a remake of this and I want Square to remake Vagrant Story

GoodGuy09230d ago (Edited 230d ago )

Crazy square doesn't do this kind of thing themselves with all their classics. I'd throw lots of money. Thank God we have such great communities as they're always the ones that properly remaster these games.

DrewUniverse229d ago

Porting means rewriting a game's code to run natively on another platform. Many think LoD's release on PS4/5 is a port, but it's actually running on an emulator. Roms are the "game" itself. Both emulators and PC ports use these roms to load the game. The difference? Emulators imitate original hardware, with many of their limitations still in place. It's why some types of modding are difficult or unfeasible. With a native PC port, modding is way easier and the core game runs much more efficiently.
