Atomic Heart review: "A messy game with big ideas and a desperate need of refinement" - GR

Atomic Heart lacks focus. It's a messy video game with big ideas and a desperate need for refinement, and further optimization.

At least it's free on game pass.

GotGame818846d ago

Yes it is. Also, there are reviews, and plenty of them, that say the game is great!

I am going to play it on Cloud. If I like it I will download it.

“At least it’s free in Game Pass”

Because we shouldn’t support developers for their hard work? This analogy needs to stop. And besides it’s not entirely free as your paying monthly for the service.

rlow1846d ago

I sure what he meant, that through Bing you build up your points through surfing and can exchange those for services. You can also get gift cards. So In that context it makes sense.

Lightning77846d ago

It's clear as day Woods is trolling since he's not a Xbox fan.

Traecy846d ago

It's not free everyone has to pay a fee to use GP.

Angyobangyo845d ago

It's not free, you're paying for the service. Not a hard concept to grasp.

This is only bad review I've seen so far.

lonewolf10846d ago

Seen a few and from what I have seen the good outweigh the bad.

Jin_Sakai846d ago

There’s quite a few bad reviews.

I haven't heard of any of those "publications"

SurgicalMenace846d ago

ACG wipes the floor with most of these reviewers, and he stated that it's worth a full price purchase in spite it being on GP. Purchased it about an hour ago.

IanTH846d ago

I don't know, I used to like him. But there was a point a while back where he felt overly critical in some places, and lax in others. And really felt like he railed hard against...I think it was the PS5 when it launched? Like, weirdly negative about stuff. I haven't checked him out in a while. Perhaps I'll poke my head over there again for a vid or two, see if (for my tastes, at least) he's become a bit more even keeled again.

MeatyUrologist846d ago

Wow thanks for turning me on to ACG. Never even heard him until now, but went back and watched this review along with a few others, and have to say he is incredibly thorough and seems to align with my tastes pretty well. I was having some serious doubts about atomic heart, but he full on convinced me to give it a go. Great review! (And he didn't even mention the politics of the developers or the races/genders of fictional characters!)

Angyobangyo845d ago

Also check out SkillUp if you enjoy ACG's content and reviews. While I can disagree with SkillUp's reviews sometimes, he goes in depth with the pros and cons on whichever game he is reviewing without coming off as overly critical or snarky.

Flawlessmic845d ago

@angyobangyo

was literally just about to mention skillup.

i watch both ACG's and skillsups reviews, they are both generally very good, however seem to differ on this game.

ACG has gone with buy and skillup has gone dont buy.

its on GP so ill play it that way, but defs also recommend people watch skill up for review aswell

Ninver846d ago (Edited 846d ago )

Push square are the only reviews I've come to trust. Always in line with what I expected.

MeatyUrologist846d ago

Gamesradar also docked Hogwarts for someone not even involved having an opinion they dont like so I would not use them as any kind of source of valid feedback. Still on the fence on this, but GR not liking it made it go up a notch in my book. It's probably just not woke enough for their tastes.

10 million players for Atomic Heart, nice!

Does this mean we might see an Atomic Heart 2? Crispy Critters!

NovoSlev17d ago

They're launching a new publishing label, Mundfish Powerhouse, but I wouldn't be shocked if they'll be using that to self-publish Atomic Heart 2 - hopefully!

Lightning7716d ago

It's on GP. 10 million players and a made another studio? So Did Gamepass help or contribute in making another studio for them? I know its on other platforms which also helped their new venture.

Boy_the_CowRoy15d ago

10 million? Hard to believe for a game with only 400 people playing this game currently and a all time peak of only 37k on PC. Is the difference in popularity of this game on console and PC really that big?

MrDead15d ago

Well done Mundfish, I had a fun time with this game... apart from the 2nd dlc. Great world building, a solid storyline and Bioshock style gameplay. Looking forward to what comes next.

DivineHand12513d ago

I started playing the game on Gamepass a while back. I stopped because it wasn't my cup of tea.

I am glad they were able to build a fan base for this game.
