Metroid Prime Remastered – Out now! (Nintendo Switch)

Step back into the suit.Metroid Prime Remastered is out now on Nintendo eShop!

Knushwood Butt442d ago

I wonder how it has aged. This game has a really unique atmosphere.

Neonridr442d ago

I loved this game, I hope they upgraded the control scheme.

Eidolon442d ago

I'd definitely want to use a pro controller for this, but the mobile controls might still be better than the Gamecube's.

CorndogBurglar442d ago

The trailer says it has updated controls. Which is good, because that was desperately needed.

GoodGuy09442d ago

It looks visually fantastic still and you'd think this was a game made on switch lol.

Eidolon442d ago

You're saying a lot, but you're right. Maybe making a game from 2-3 generations ago to look current-gen is hard, for Playstation, or Xbox... I mean I can tell right away on any re-master I'm playing a game from a previous generation. But somehow it just works for Switch, because Nintendos' generational leaps aren't very big.

senorfartcushion442d ago (Edited 442d ago )

I mean, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe probably looks better than something like Hogwarts Legacy does overall regardless of the latter’s aim of trying to achieve some sort of realism with their budget

DogJosha442d ago

It actually looks really good when you upscale it in Dolphin. Hopefully they did more than that to justify the $40 price tag.

darthv72442d ago

It seems they took the wii remaster of prime 1 and upped the res. They couldnt be bothered with doing the trilogy on one 32gb cart like they did on one 8gb disc for the wii.

Pretty bare bones effort there Nintendo. Just tossing out crumbs to hold us over until Prime 4.

thesoftware730442d ago (Edited 442d ago )

Yes, I know.......

But I'm gonna download it as soon as I get home lol.

*Baaaa*

IanTH442d ago (Edited 442d ago )

Are you going to at $40? I think the entire trilogy on Wii was a $50 price point, and that put the WiiMote controls in each of the games, which took at least some effort. This price is simply absurd.

IanTH436d ago

Just for posterity, I would like to negate my previous statement. I think Nintendo really failed to explain what was truly done to this version of the game, and it appears to be far closer to a remake than a remaster. And with that newfound knowledge, the $40 price tag doesn't seem as egregious.

Doubly so, given Nintendo has priced basically res-bump emulated games at similar - or higher - pricing. I'm actually far more interested in picking this up now, and may do so once the physical copy releases. Nintendo really dropped the ball with the messaging on this one!

--Onilink--442d ago (Edited 442d ago )

This doesn’t look at all like an upres version of a wii game…

Whether it should include the whole trilogy or what cost it should have is kind of a separate topic, but it absolutely doesnt look like an upres is the only thing that was done

Concertoine442d ago (Edited 442d ago )

Its got the same animations and everything. Its not a new engine. Its a heavily tweaked port.

--Onilink--442d ago

@Concertoine

Its a remaster, just like its named.. no one is saying its a full blown remake, but its clearly more than just an upres of the wii game

DankSinatra442d ago (Edited 442d ago )

What? The game looks leaps better than the wii version. Textures, models, post processing, rendering are all upgraded way beyond a simple “upped res” hell they even added in shadows. Go look at comparison photos and videos. Jut because they kept the animations in tact doesn’t mean this is some lazy port. It’s actually a remaster unlike ost of their “remasters” they released in recent years.

cthulhucultist442d ago

@danksinatra: you are absolutely right. Normally I would be the first to call out Nintendo on their lazy remaster efforts and 60$ price tag, but in this case the graphics were much improved (apart from the resolution) and the price is lower than 60 euros.

This video clearly illustrates the above.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Having said that, they should have released the whole trilogy instead for 60 euros.

Snookies12442d ago

I have to agree... Was hyped when I saw this, but instantly wondered why this wasn't the whole trilogy... Just don't know what they are thinking. Especially with this price point. Nintendo just continues to screw up with things like this. I was happy to support Dread, but not going to bother with this until we get a complete trilogy. Or, at least a lower price point in 5 years lol.

closed_account442d ago (Edited 442d ago )

Not at all! This video is already up showing the difference, which is pretty huge actually. Not just resolution upgrades, but actual new detail to the environments...

Look: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

I know it's fun to hate on Nintendo... I do it a lot too! But they deserve kudos at least on this - it looks really, really nice comparatively. (given the restraints of the Switch, mind you) Possibly the best remaster Nintendo has ever done.

I think your memory is just a little foggy on this one! X'D

closed_account441d ago (Edited 441d ago )

@darthv72 I admire your willingness to admit your wrong, instead of digging your heels in the sand like so many people do here!

Yea, I truly was expecting a halfassed effort too, but I am beyond excited to see such care given to one of my favorite games of all time. Especially given Nintendo's track record, this is the best surprise. AND, they didn't even try to sell it for $59.99 like Skyward Sword!

**Edit - well crap, I posted the response in the wrong place, but this is in response to below where @darthv72 said "Alright... I stand corrected. It does look really good."

--Onilink--442d ago (Edited 442d ago )

https://youtu.be/Jaypbay8rt...

Its honestly a bit mindblowing that people are calling it an upres or a barebones remaster. Its quite clear that there is a significant amount of work put into it

This is practically at the middle between a (good) remaster and remake

New lightning and shadows, new geometry, the vast majority of textures seem to be seriously reworked or entirely recreated, new assets…

--Onilink--442d ago

And one more for good measure.. because quite frankly, its not even remotely close to the GC or Wii versions. In the graphical aspect it is undoubtedly a remake.

DankSinatra442d ago

Its N4g. Anything Sony does is great. Xbox is meh. If Nintendo does something good it’s considered half assed overpriced bullshit. This site is anti-Nintendo as everyone here seems to believe that Nintendo gets no criticism despite 90% of comments or articles on Nintendo here is nothing but criticism.

closed_account442d ago

@--Onilink-- Thanks for those extra videos. Yea, that actually looks damn good, I'm impressed! There are some really good emulations on PC that make it look crisp & buttery smooth (and even higher rez than this), BUT it looks like Retro actually went back and remade a lot of the geometry from scratch, added things like water physics. Everything organic like trees, grass, alien life looks MUCH better in this new Remaster.

At first when I saw announcement, I was ticked that it wasn't the Trilogy. However, I'd rather pay this $40 for a complete rework like this, than a sloppy up-rez of all 3 Gamecube/Wii versions together. (like the horrible Mario 3D Allstars)

These videos sold me on it. I bough this morning and it looks really nice! I'm only playing in handheld (as I usually do w Switch). but I can actually see that a lot of effort was put into this. There's even a voiced intro as you're landing on the ship debri in the beginning. giving a slight intro to Samus. .... I'm not sure how I feel about that yet, as I always dug the silent "Aliens" vibe of Metroid... but, it's another example where they didn't just copy - paste. (hopefully we can choose voiceovers off, but I'm guessing that's the only part that has voicework)

I guarantee Prime 2 and 3 are coming. can't wait!

**and DankSinatra yea, "Nintendo" is a trigger word on this site, lol. I have a lot of criticism about them too.. I actually complained yesterday about Nintendo Switch Online here in the comments before the Direct, saying that Nintendo Switch Online's offerings are poor, it's overpriced and I wanted to see an overhaul. Everyone upvoted it. Last night after the show, I admitted that I would subscribe to the Expansion Plus because of the Gameboy and GBA offerings, and now I'm being downvoted. X´D

repsahj442d ago (Edited 442d ago )

Really impressive indeed! Nintendo should re-hire the studios behind this project for future remasters. And consistent 60fps framerate is awesome. Heck even the rain at the start is better than the rain of the recent RE4 remake video.

darthv72442d ago

Alright... I stand corrected. It does look really good.

Still no physical preorder up yet 😑

XxINFERNUSxX442d ago

Yeah, I just preordered it. Finally a reasonable price $39.99 😎

northpaws442d ago

I want a remake in 4k HDR 60fps.

XxINFERNUSxX442d ago

For that the best way is to just play the ROM on PC and use reshade to enable fake HDR, it does look good that way

GotGame818442d ago

It already is 60fps. Just not 4K. If you have a good TV, that should smooth out any jaggies.
