It's an attempt to out "Apple" Apple before they release Vision Pro. Facebook wasn't releasing any content for hand tracking. Definitely no games. But now they are rushing to improve features so they can say, "Me too!"

Same as the fairly obvious announcement of Quest 3 exactly before the Vision Pro announcement. When it wasn't the same time Facebook usually announces products. Then, trying to tell the community that it was just a coincidence. Nobody is fooled.

As for hand tracking, it's great that multiple companies are trying to come up with accurate solutions that's needed for future AR and VR applications. It's not just one company.

Shows are little you use a Quest 2
Meta has been constantly updating the Hand tracking feature since 2019 and Meta released the major HAND.2.0 Tracking update a year ago (V40).
Hand 2.1 was released in January of this year with V47

And now they are releasing 2.2 with V56.

You can find plenty of games and utilities that are praised for Hand tracking like VR chat, Unplugged: Air Guitar, Piano Vision, Horizon Work, etc (personally I use Hand tracking for Virtual Desktop and Cubism).

And last but not least
Quest 3 remote tracking is basically based on the Hand tracking calculation and IR signal that will allow them to remove the ring.
Just for that, there's a good reason to continue improving hand-tracking reliability.

How many *GAMES* has Facebook created for hand tracking? Actually shows how much YOU know. I'm well aware that other developers have like the game Demeo. Facebook hasn't made shit. They haven't really made any AR games either in the 2 years Quest 2 has been out. They rely on others to do it. Name these games coming from IN HOUSE? Don't name demo shit. They haven't even made room scale games for a device capable of it. They demoed journalists shooting each other in a room then never made any games. They got money. Just like Microsoft. But they are lazy bums.

They saw what Apple was trying to do and will copy and try to offer the same features for a lower price. Only those ignorant not to see that will not SEE THAT.

GEE How many Games Apple have made for IOS?
I guess they don't support their device and only try to upstage Android
How many games Valve did produce for Steam Deck or Steam again they sure don't support their device and only try to upstage Switch.

But to stick to your goalpost that you're moving Why should Meta suddenly develop games or add hand tracking to a game that doesn't need it?
Would Population 1 works better with hand tracking?, Beat Sabers?, Echo, Resident evil4, etc?
Would you trade haptic feedback in gaming for less precise Hand tracking?

The point is Hand tracking has been developed with social interaction and productive concepts in mind.
Your initial VR space supports hand tracking, Meta Horizon Works, etc., and since the inception of Hand tracking it's been updated to version 2 last year, 2.1 earlier this year and now 2.2
so why would META bother updating it if they didn't care about the feature in the 1st place?
