Lol.
Publishers/devs never learn.

Lore858d ago

What is the history/issue with denuvo? I’m a console gamer so i’m out of the loop

MadLad858d ago

Terrible anti-pirate software that's known to hamper performance on many titles, though typically gets cracked not long after it launches. Sometimes even before it launches, if there were leaked copies.

So it basically just hurts those who want to buy it legitimately. Usually just pushing people to torrent it, or buy it at a deep sale after they eventually remove it.

Snookies12857d ago (Edited 857d ago )

Yeah, I was honestly looking forward to getting this on PC... Now with this news, and the 32GB Ram for ultra settings is kind of putting a damper on that. Something that is taking that much ram to run, paired with Denuvo possibly hampering performance on top of that. I just don't know... We'll see when it launches I suppose.

I'll be picking the game up on console or PC either way. Just going to probably wait a day or two to see what people think of each port. Then I will decide what system I want it for.

"typically gets cracked not long after it launches"

MadLad857d ago

Honestly guy, it's not worth it to me to to blatantly prove this article false.

What it does show me though is how less and less companies are using the software. It's basically just a small handful of the same publishers on specific titles, and most of those titles have shown a correlation between implementation of the software and questionable performance issues at launch.

As a PC gamer, anyone who uses Denuvo loses a sale until they remove it. Usually now deeply discounted. If it's the rare game I absolutely need day one I'll get it on console. I'm just not going to add to whatever metric they go by that adding a crap software like Denuvo does equate to more PC sales.

IanTH857d ago (Edited 857d ago )

Honestly, the bottom line is it ultimately doesn't matter if that's true. I question if it is, but I'll take their word for it. The fact is it is demonstrable as to how negative the impact on performance is. The same site you linked tells of how much worse performance in RE Village was with Denuvo vs cracked.

It linked to an article about how every title had much worse performance, from loading to framerate to frametimes. It was so bad in Doom Eternal that, after they added it 2 months after release, they removed it within a week.

No one would have a problem with them protecting their product if whatever they used didn't actually make what you purchased worse. It'd be a minor salve if all publishers that used Denuvo vowed to remove it once it was cracked, but the fact a paying customer could ever have a worse experience than someone who paid for it? Shouldn't ever happen. I kind of think Valve shouldn't even allow it on their storefront, given their motto of how to get people to pay for software. Denuvo flies directly in the face of that.

just_looken857d ago

denuvo also requires internet connection no internet your game will not boot up.

https://www.nme.com/news/ga...

I would also like to add as someone with a 12th gen intel cpu this drm will have major issues with pcores.

i have been unable to play any denuvo games on my intel 12gen rig with a 3080 Always bad fps or crashing

but i use my 3700x rig with a 6650xt the game works.

Performance is always worse with this drm though for sure.

i got cylisto for free via amd rewards had this experiance just 2 days ago.

Crows90858d ago

At least the title doesn't include the word "controversial" or "boycotted"

Imalwaysright857d ago

This is one of the few games I'm genuinely interested to see how it will be reviewed considering that is being used as a political and ideological battleground.

Crows90857d ago

Last time I saw stuff like this written was with days gone. So pretty sure it may have the same results....although harry potter is a much bigger IP.

Kados858d ago

Guess i'll be waiting for the TPB version of this also. I refuse to install Denuvo on my system.

XxINFERNUSxX858d ago

Waiting for EMPRESS to crack it.😎

XxINFERNUSxX858d ago (Edited 858d ago )

Give it time EMPRESS will probably crack it and other Denuvo games😁
https://www.wired.com/story... Old article on her.
If it was on GOG I might have bought it if the game turned out to be good. GOG = DRM free, best to support them.

esherwood857d ago (Edited 857d ago )

So you ‘might’ have bought it if they just trusted everyone wouldn’t steal there work? I’m sure They’ve ran the numbers and all you justice warriors acting like your only stealing it because they’ve hurt your feelings by accusing you where actually going to steal it anyway. Lol u people are ridiculous. If it’s a good game that isn’t built around mt’s I’ll support them and whatever they feel they have to do to protect there work so I can continue to get them.

CantThinkOfAUsername857d ago

EMPRESS is an attention-seeking drama queen. She asks for $500 to crack a Denuvo game.

XxINFERNUSxX857d ago

That I know, which is why this might take a long time 😁

IanTH857d ago

I've always found that kind of thing funny. Like when custom firmware developers, who expressly go around piracy controls, put anti-piracy software in their own product so *their* work can't get stolen.

But when the majority of people who pirate the game never have the intention to pay for it in the first place, I'm not sure how you'd get $500. I guess if you could get 100 people to chip in $5 a piece it'd be worth it for them, but otherwise you might as well just buy it or wait for a sale lol.

sadraiden858d ago

The only thing that would really cap this entire game's pre-release saga would be if it was a buggy disaster like Cyberpunk. Ahhhh mastapeece.

Couldn't go 2 sentences without bringing up JK Rowling's viewpoints (which are now acknowledged and supported by the UK Supreme Court). Time for all the "progressive" whiners to latch back on to reality.

Playstation owners buy games.

Strange seeing Hogwarts there as I downloaded it for my son from PS Plus a couple of days ago.

InUrFoxHole26d ago

Playstation owners buy games? That's a wild badge of honor my boy.

Bathyj26d ago

Not really. It's directly contributed to having the healthiest console and ecosystem. Not really debatable.

The alternative is a console platform holder whose least important customers are the ones who own their console. That's why it's Microsoft games studios now not Xbox in all but name.

Microsoft needs PlayStation, PC and Nintendo players now more than they need Xbox players. They're a dying breed.

andy8525d ago

Not really. That's why Xbox is going under consoles wise. PS gamers purchase stuff that's why console and game sales are always high. Xbox gamers want games for 'free' on gamepass and to enter at the lowest price point (series s)

VenomUK25d ago

@InUrFoxHole said “Playstation owners buy games? That's a wild badge of honor my boy.”

This Tuesday after The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion was finally revealed I saw a tonne of conversation on X/Twitter of people gleefully mocking PS5 owners who said they were buying the game, as they were getting it for free with Game Pass. Yes, that’s great value for people with a Game Pass subscription - but do you still not see how it has impacted the Xbox hardware platform? It’s the reason Indiana Jones and Oblivion and Forza Horizon 5 aren’t exclusive anymore.

ravens5225d ago

InUrFoxHole, its wild that you think that's wild lmao. 🤯. You buy your food from the grocery store?? Ugggh. You should get Factor. Who pays for food anymore when you can pay a subscription to receive food for "free". Disgusting.

Sound stupid? It is.

InUrFoxHole25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

@Bathy
That's some cope there. You think the healthiest console is the one that doesn't even provide their gamers with their exclusive games? That crazy talk man. The healthiest is Nintendo and that's 💯 not even a debate. MS provides gamers with games. Sony provides you with MS games. Enjoy

@andy
You have broke brain. Gamepass isn't free. It's a sub service. Jesus n4g knows how to pick'em

andy8525d ago

@InUrFoxHole notice I put free in ' ' these? Doesn't take a genius. Every game that comes out on Xbox you'll see this comment "is this coming to gamepass".

2nd on the charts for a game such as Indy ain’t great.
Releasing half year after xbox version probably cooled off some demand.

This is a very good game, deserves the best chance to do well.

badz14925d ago

The real great performer here is Astrobot. keeping that rate of sales for a last year's game that is not GTAV, CoD and FIFA (now Hogwarts too). outselling MH Wilds and EA FC is kinda wild for Astrobot!

dveio25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

Hogwart's, Indiana, Astro Bot & Monster Hunter - that's a pretty nice top 4 once again.

I bet MachineGames are quite happy about the sales pouring in.
