CG writes: We check out the latest build from developer Iris VR’s cyberpunk themed action adventure game in development, LOW-FI. It’s currently at update 0.48 and seems to have improved since we last visited the game. The game (some years in the making) aims to release in 2023 for PC VR, PC flatscreen and PS5 and PSVR 2 (possibly). In the game, you play as a futuristic sheriff of sorts, where the city is your playground to interact with criminals and various vendors. You can wishlist the game via Steam now or get the Itch.io version and play the development builds now.

It's definitely coming to PSVR2. Blair Renaud at Anticleric Games has confirmed this before, most recently on twitter in October 22:

LOW-FI Gameplay Preview - First Update in 5 Months - CG

CG writes: In development, the heavily Blade Runner inspired desktop and VR game LOW-FI from developer IRIS VR received an update a few days ago. This brings the game to version 0.56 which would suggest the game is just over half finished. We put this latest build to the test and get the feeling, that with each update LOW-FI is finally becoming an actual game. It looks great in VR and on desktop, but we wonder how many more months before the game nears completion. IRIS VR maintains that the game will release this year but we’re not so sure given the fact there is still lots to do and the team are a handful of people.

Looks good but is taking forever to come out. One of the reasons why I wanted a PS VR 2. When it releases, and, if it turns out well, then I might take the plunge and get the headset and the game.

It's good and it's also bad and as much as I like VR it would be foolish for me to suggest that the market sentiment for it isn't on a downward trajectory. PCVR headset makers falling out of the market, Quest 3 and PSVR2 underperforming compared to their predecessors. Most AAA publishers have walked away from VR compared to the last push too.

The next push seems to be copying what Apple is doing with Mixed Reality. Even Sony has just announced their Mixed Reality headset which is really what PSVR2 should have been.

I love the 'lo-fi' robot voices in this game. It's shaping up well - certainly captured that atmosphere. Such an impressive passion project.

Can't wait to play on my PSVR2, I've waited ages for this game to be ready!

This release will be most welcome on PSVR 2 with nothing else like it planned for this year or next.

Still waiting for a release date for another cyberpunk game, Distortion VR. Looks fun, if less polished than Low-Fi. It was originally due over a year ago on PCVR and was confirmed for PSVR too, so presumably now PSVR2.

@SullysCigar (eww btw) Either I forgot about this game or it's a new one to me thanks. It almost looks like it was developed for Quest 2 initially? It's available now on Steam I can see. Not much fanfare surrounding it. Reminds me more of LONN than LOW-Fi.

SullysCigar413d ago

Lol at "eww btw" - the problem lies in your interpretation there, but I noticed the spoonerism you've opted for lmao

Yeah Distortion VR looks weaker that Low-Fi for sure, but it looks more 'gamey'. Be nice if it gets a rework for PSVR2 seeing as how it was intended for the last gen headset and never made it. I enjoy that kind of setting, but you're right, that one was looking a bit janky the last I saw.

Lo-fi is really interesting idea imo.

i love the blade runner-esq aesthetics. Looks intriguing.
