LOW-FI Latest Gameplay from Update 0.48 - Cyberpunk 2D/VR Game PS5/PC

CG writes: We check out the latest build from developer Iris VR’s cyberpunk themed action adventure game in development, LOW-FI. It’s currently at update 0.48 and seems to have improved since we last visited the game. The game (some years in the making) aims to release in 2023 for PC VR, PC flatscreen and PS5 and PSVR 2 (possibly). In the game, you play as a futuristic sheriff of sorts, where the city is your playground to interact with criminals and various vendors. It's definitely coming to PSVR2. Blair Renaud at Anticleric Games has confirmed this before, most recently on twitter in October 22:

Metacity Patrol Gameplay Part 1 - The game that LOW-FI isn't

A new VR game (early access) for Quest owners with a cyberpunk flavour. Metacity Patrol has a lot going for it as a sandbox experience. Game is currently £2.99 on the Meta store which is a steal. Meanwhile, LOW-FI which has been in development for longer than we can remember (since 2019) sits in development hell. Over ambitious and needing more funding despite having backing from a Kickstarter and SONY. It's amazing that Metacity Patrol (also by a solo developer) ticks all the boxes and is constantly updated adding more features. LOW-FI hasn't had an update for almost a year where the developer posts on X how he is enjoying life and not updating the game.

LOW-FI Gameplay Preview - First Update in 5 Months - CG

CG writes: In development, the heavily Blade Runner inspired desktop and VR game LOW-FI from developer IRIS VR received an update a few days ago. This brings the game to version 0.56 which would suggest the game is just over half finished. We put this latest build to the test and get the feeling, that with each update LOW-FI is finally becoming an actual game. It looks great in VR and on desktop, but we wonder how many more months before the game nears completion. IRIS VR maintains that the game will release this year but we’re not so sure given the fact there is still lots to do and the team are a handful of people.

Looks good but is taking forever to come out. One of the reasons why I wanted a PS VR 2. When it releases, and, if it turns out well, then I might take the plunge and get the headset and the game.

It's good and it's also bad and as much as I like VR it would be foolish for me to suggest that the market sentiment for it isn't on a downward trajectory. PCVR headset makers falling out of the market, Quest 3 and PSVR2 underperforming compared to their predecessors. Most AAA publishers have walked away from VR compared to the last push too.

The next push seems to be copying what Apple is doing with Mixed Reality. Even Sony has just announced their Mixed Reality headset which is really what PSVR2 should have been.
