Ubisoft has cancelled 3 unannounced games and delayed Skull & Bones again

From VGC: "Ubisoft has cancelled three unannounced games and delayed it’s long in development pirate game Skull & Bones yet again.

Announcing the move on Wednesday, the company said it is “facing major challenges as the industry continues to shift towards mega-brands and long-lasting titles than can reach players across the globe, across platforms and business models”.

Nooo ...
... not Skull and Bones ...

deleted873d ago

I'm not sure if sarcasm, but it really does look disappointing. It ditched everything we loved about AC Black Flag, like boarding and taking over ships w sword and gun fights, land combat, seaside fort conquering.

I'm sure at this point it's too much to ask to go back to the drawing board and include those things. I'll wait until it hits PS+, play for an hour or two, then uninstall it.

shinoff2183871d ago

That's what I'm thinking. It doesn't even sound good anymore. Make a pirate game and get rid of all the pirate type shit. Awkward!

glennhkboy873d ago

Who would even feel disappointment at Skull & Bones by now (maybe except the Singapore government...)?

Lol, Skull and Bones is the new Duke Nukem Forever.

Yi-Long873d ago (Edited 873d ago )

… except Duke Nukem Forever actually had folks interested in it once.

General response to Skull & Bones has been a collective ‘meh’, as well as a ‘why!?’, ever since it was announced …

KeeseToast873d ago

Beyond Good & Evil 2 has broken Dukes record for being the longest sequel in development. It's also an Ubisoft game

CrimsonIdol873d ago

I mean, it's a solid enough concept. Pirates are cool, pirate games can be cool, the pirate stuff from AC4 was kinda cool. There was *some* hype for it. But that ship has sailed hasn't it?

FinalFantasyFanatic873d ago

AC Black Flag is basically the perfect template for this kind of game, might as well copy that game more or less and remove the AC stuff from it and you'd have an almost perfect pirate game right out the gate.

MisterZay0000873d ago

More like Beyond Good and Evil 2.

Skulls and Bones delayed for like the 17th time lol. It's a joke at this point.

Lightning77873d ago

"to further strengthen our execution and to ensure we both deliver amazing games to players as well as great value creation."

Yet Skull and Bones got delayed again. It's obvious the game isn't good to play or they're struggling to find the fun in the game. As for every other game Avatar Pandora won't be out any like soon.

Ubisoft is falling from grace sadly. They need to manage their studios better.

CrimsonIdol873d ago

Mate, they not falling, they fell. They fell, hit the ground hard, then kept digging.

With the crap Ubisoft keep releasing year-on-year I shudder to think what doesn't pass the test.

Maybe they couldn't figure out how to make a pirate ship climb a tower.

Owlbert873d ago (Edited 873d ago )

Couldn't have said it better 👍.
..they probably still trying to implement a battle royale 🤮🤮, ubisoft/Tom Clancy games used to be the benchmark of multiplayer gaming, now they just bargain bucket, copy and paste,I blame cod 4 ,for dumbing down all tactical shooters.
And now the trend is garbage battle royale which is so cringe what with everything trying to be like fortnight 🤮🤮🤮... I can't stand the cartoon family friendly shite infecting every game, the new Issac Clarke in the dead space remake looks like a character out of the new saints row 🤮✌️

Eonjay873d ago (Edited 873d ago )

I'm more worried about Ubisoft as a whole. According to them the game could be the best game in the last 3 years but they wouldn't release it if they couldn't turn it into some super lucrative brand with immediate and continuous cash flow potential.

The don't want to release regular games anymore.

Also, where is Beyond Good and Evil?

Lightning77873d ago

Beyond Good and Evil apparently continues to get rebooted. Right now the game is in early stages.... Again.

Don't expect this game for a really long time.

FinalFantasyFanatic873d ago

Apparently it's still in development, not holding my breath on that one since they don't even have anything more to show us since the last time they showed anythign.

DOMination-872d ago

I think in part it was because Michel Ancel left. I'm sure he was overseeing BG&E2 and that Wild game that also disappeared plus of course anything to do with Rayman

shinoff2183871d ago

They've been falling for some time. They put all their eggs in the assassins creed basket. Many people love ac but alot of us don't really like it. I want to like it but it's hard.

RaidenBlack873d ago

Wonder which projects they cancelled?
Hope they were all typical ubi live service projects ...

Profchaos873d ago

If only it sounds like they are cancelling linear single player games in favour of more live service games by the statement with the only traditional game still in the cards seemingly being ac mirage.
I imagine the rest would be things like Tom Clancy games, a watch dogs 4 game and some other games that might have actually been good but are not gaas

edeprez873d ago

It's pretty sad, Ubisoft don't really have a strong leg to stand on these days, not even a crutch. They're too busy chasing trends and buzzwords to make a good game. How about put your best studios on a super bad ass Splinter Cell game? Not gonna happen, I know.

shinoff2183871d ago

Shame if true. Single player games are my cup of tea

jznrpg873d ago

I’d bet it’s the other way around

-Foxtrot873d ago

I hope it was Beyond Good and Evil 2 so they will revamp it into a new IP

That game is anything but Beyond Good and Evil

Profchaos873d ago (Edited 873d ago )

Agree I wouldn't be surprised bge2 is a just dance game at this point.

But also doesn't appear to be scrapped as they only scrapped unannounced games so I'm thinking every game that we know didn't meet expectations because they filled it with stuff no one liked got a sequel canned. Basically ghost recon, WD and just dance were all considered disappointing to them

Most Disappointing Game of 2024

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "In a year that was to a large extent carried by the game developers of Japan (and to some extent China), western games can rejoice that there was at least one category they managed to dominate: that of Most Disappointing. Sometimes disappointment comes from high expectations met with something middling, other times it comes from middling expectations met with something terrible. This year managed to deliver a bit of both, so either way there was enough disappointment to go around."

Why not mention the 19,000 Steam games of which 80% weren't good enough to merit "success" on the platform?

RaidenBlack136d ago

You gotta be effing kidding me with that logic.

coolbeans136d ago

Because the very *definition* of disappointment requires one has some kind of expectation for it. Concord was hoping to find its own niche in the crowded 'hero shooter' market, with ~8 years of development, $100 million+ funding, and marketable talent behind it, and went belly up in 2 lousy weeks. That's historical for a live-service game.

thorstein136d ago

It's become a drinking game at this point. Disappointing games? It's the same games in every article with a similar title. Does no one have an original thought anymore?

RaidenBlack136d ago

@thorstein
**It's the same games in every article with a similar title.**
Because it's the same year? The games that got launched is a constant fact for everyone. And if the game was universally disappointing, then obviously everyone would echo the same thing.
Do you want for originality some writer would write up that instead of Concord and Outlaws, Silent Hills 2 was the most disappointing game, right? Coz, that'd be considered a click-bait article then.
And emphasis on the word "disappointing" games, not general bad games.

LordoftheCritics136d ago

Veilguard was easily the most disappointing game of the year.
Highest expectation with Highest disappointment

Concord was just the biggest failure.
In fact it was not very disappointing.
Almost as expected.

DivineHand125136d ago

@LordoftheCritics I disagree about Vailguard being the most disappointing game of the year. Going into the launch of that game, 90% of the comments I was seeing from this community were negative. Many also wanted the game to fail.

In my opinion, for a game to be disappointing, it would mean the game was highly anticipated for success going into the launch of the game only to bomb in the reviews and fail commercially.

I would say Hellblade 2 claims this title. I haven't played any of the games in the series as yet, however, the hate that game received was on another level. I am not sure if it was fanboys that felt threatened by it being the best-looking console game on the market or if the criticisms about it being a boring game were valid. I haven't played these walking games before so put it off since it doesn't seem to be my cup of tea.

Those 19,000 games have 80%. Dragon age is sitting at 70%, Star wars is at 75% and falling, Lego Horizon adventures is at 56%, Skull and Bones 65% and Concord was DOA. This would mean these games didn't even crack the top 19,000.
