Last of Us director on a potential Part 3: ‘I think there’s more story to tell’

From VGC: "Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann has seemingly hinted at plans for a third entry in its The Last of Us series.

While not confirming if The Last of Us Part 3 is coming or not, series director and co-writer Druckmann told The Hollywood Reporter: “I think there’s more story to tell.”"

Maybe it's Kratos all over again. Ellie is now exhausted with revenge and the hate that had overtaken her heart, so she settles down, becomes Eddie. Grows a beard. Reunites with her adoptive son JJ who she fines out is also a cure. Son wants to sacrifice himself to save humanity.Yada yada..

Ellie from the last of us part 1 is not into girls though. It was with left behind dlc that they decided to go that route.

Not to mention its a little gross for a grown man to be thinking of lesbian 12 yr olds. Left behind arguably doesn't prove she is a lesbian either. Ellie kissing a beloved friend doesn't scream lesbian to me. Girls tend to be far more affectionate anyways.

Lol @SullysCigar sorry, it was just a harmless joke about all of the people so vocal about their Last of Us 2 hate. ((You should be used to my dumb, playful jokes on this site by now!) I simply stated that she grew a beard bc that's what is trendy these days! I can respect the story the creators want to tell, whether we like it or not, it's their story to tell. The overall story was (mostly) well done, w maybe some dragged out parts and shoehorned moments that didn't feel organic.

You can go back through my posting history if you want and see that I was one of the ones who actually really enjoyed the game. The Abby part is TOO long IMO, but I found that dynamic of facing off against Ellie pretty intriguing.

Yea, I hated that they killed Joel so fast, but the series was always about unpleasant, uncomfortable stories. I can hate his death, but enjoy the emotional rollercoaster I endured w it. Again in the theater scene, I almost had to put the controller down, it was killin' me having to beat Ellie to a pulp as Abby. That part was brilliant and heart wretching.

Disagree. The world is pretty pedestrian cliche zombie land stuff. The strength was in the characters and part 2 robbed us of half of that. They'll probably kill Ellie and make us play as the coyote that gave her rabies or something...

Playing a game as Ellie where she kills more after that ending would be like Batman not killing joker but killing henchmen. Would kind of undermine the point of the ending to me. But hope people enjoy it

This illogical narrative is adopted in many films/shows/games .. all those side character are just disposable assets to give more excitement till you reach the ending point where the main character, the hero, turns into a saint.

I agree with the first part of your comment, I think last of us 2 closed things of perfectly and think the last thing we need is part 3 right now.

I disagree they are a one trick pony, if they decided to do a new ip they would smash it out of the park which is why I want to see a new ip from them instead.

They can revisit a part 3 later down the line when people would be hungry for a part 3.

Right now they need to get out factions and then give us a new ip, I don't want another uncharted or last us.

I loved those games but it's time for some new things now.

Imo Tlou 1 could have been closed off. It didn't need a sequel to be honest. Leave it as it is(Like Shadow of the Collosus), but they made a part 2..now a part 3 is needed to close it off completely.

Last of Us 2 sold over 10 million copies, cope harder.

Ghost of Tsushima sold 8 million copies. According to Days Gone director the game sold more than 8 million copies. Horizon Zero Dawn sold 20 million copies total and I think it's safe to say that the PS4 version accounts for more than half of the total sales. Taking in consideration that these are numbers for brand new IPs then I would say that 10 million copies is an underwhelming number for a game that was the sequel to one of the best games of all time.

I had always thought of a prequel to the events in the first game. You go through the days after the outbreak as Joel, surviving his background story of being a raider, joining clans, working with his brother and so on. Up till he meets Ellie.

I found part 2 really hard to take. After the cutscene with Joel and being left with a character full of revenge but nothing else. It became stale quickly and I wanted the ride over and done with around the 20 hour mark.

I don't think I could be as interested in part 3 if it's going to be more the same from part 2. I don't know why they felt it was a good idea to do that to Joel, when he was such a strong character.

Ever since Naughty Dog went with cinematic 3rd person action games, I feel it was set in stone.

People want a Jack and Daxter remake/reboot, we get a "remake" of the Last of Us and a loose announcement of a 3rd game.

We've been hearing about some new IP in the works for years now with not a sliver of real evidence showing its existence.
Hell, we haven't even got factions yet lol.

I would love to see Naughty Dog do something outside the norm for the first time since the original Uncharted released, but I don't think that's in the cards anytime soon.

Definitely would love to see a 2nd sequel. It would be cool if Ellie was now a full grown adult and 15+ years have past. We play as her and another character similar to how they did it in Part 2, perhaps Ellie ends up becoming the antagonist.

Ideally they make a new IP first then come back to this, I wouldn't mind something new from Naughty Dog first That way you could also really feel that Ellie has aged with the time between the two games. Odd example but I felt like that passing of time really worked with Avengers IW > EG, the 1 year wait between the movies really made the plot's 5 years passing feel more believable. Having said that, Naughty Dog know what they're doing, I'll leave it to them.
