The day Star Wars: Galaxies Closed down

Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided was a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in the Star Wars universe. Developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, the game was released in 2003 and was actively played until its closure in 2011.

I remember watching a G4 special for it back in the day. I felt bad for a bunch of people who were really upset about losing a game I, myself, never even played.

The game was so ahead of it's time. The sandbox was second to none, if they took that experience and added modern graphics and combat, it would be a huge success. Sadly like many other mmorpgs of that era, it was overshadowed by WoW and never recovered, I played it back when I was 17, I really wish I could have experienced it when I was older and appreciated the community it created - a former Farstarian.

I played it a little when it came out, it was a really good game
I am not the biggest fan of mmorpg's, so I didn't experience everything it had to offer, but my friends were obsessed with it

as much as WoW was an amazing game when it came out, the side effect was that games like this would die and for there to be very little incentive to make a non-themepark mmo

I hated WoW when it came out . It was a casual version of Everquest . It took me close to a year to get to level 50 in Everquest and it was so fun. It took me less than 2 weeks to get to 50 in WoW and I don’t remember a thing about the first 50 levels . Raids were ok and PVP was fun for a little bit but I quit before I made it to 6 months . My guild from EQ kept playing had a radio show and everything but it just wasn’t challenging and engaging like EQ . FF MMOS are much better .

It was such promising game. Too bad that instead of resolving it's problems, they decided to destroy it with NGE. Fck smedley. BTW, it's after being part of SWG and following it's development, i started to hate the word "potential" in regards to computer games. If game's potential is not fulfilled from the start, you can bet it will never be.
