Need For Speed Unbound Review | Attack of the Fanboy

In many ways, this title feels like the passing of a torch for players. Veterans of the franchise may feel that this is the beginning of the end, as it has started to stray from its initial roots. However, those that are not afraid to try something new will be treated to one of the finest-crafted racing titles in recent memory, wrapped just tight enough with a bow on top.

Currently averaging 81 on Metacritic. So far, it's the first positively reviewed NFS game in just under a decade.

The handling of the franchise over the last 10 years was so depressing. It made 343's poor handling of Halo seem amazing.

I'm really happy to see NFS in good hands again, and this is just the beginning. 🥲

Goes to show that Criterion still aren't slouches. I'm legitimately having a blast with this game after nearly a week of play.

There's still a few things they can adjust, like the frequency of roaming cops in the world, and making them more of a threat later in the game, but they don't ruin the experience.

I’m playing the 10hr trial it’s surprisingly good

I like this quote, "However, those that are not afraid to try something new will be treated to one of the finest-crafted racing titles in recent memory, wrapped just tight enough with a bow on top."

Let go of the past, give this a go. It looks great and is fun to play. I get that some might not like the cartoony stuff, you can turn those effects off if you don't like them (but not the characters obviously). I personally like them but I understand people who don't.

Beginning of what?? another let down??
long as open world racing is implemented NFS will always be Screwed.

andy85880d ago

But it isn't a letdown though is it? It has the best user score in 15 years of a NFS on metacritic. It's a great game

FPS_D3TH880d ago

It gives me initial D and a bit of midnight club vibes or how I’d imagine them handling a sequel to that game. I plan on giving this a go soon. Still would love to see a new burnout title someday from Criterion.

Retroman880d ago

I rather play Burnout than this Crap. if Criterion added Cop's to Burnout I would buy it before Unbound.

Retroman880d ago

Veterans of the franchise may feel that this is the beginning of the end, as it has started to stray from its initial roots.

Beginning of the end?? End of the Franchise ended when Blackbox studio released it's last game The Run . Since then it has been Crap after Crap. Unbound is Nothing more than a Continuation of Heat and that was Crap.

Plz no live service only NFS.
You already tried that with the reboot which was online only.

FinalFantasyFanatic87d ago

I can totally see them doing that again.

andy8588d ago

Just give me Underground 2 remastered

Fonsecap87d ago

Don't known if you're aware, but there is a modding team remastering the game in unreal engine 5, look for it it's looking good.

ApocalypseShadow88d ago

But no Burnout since you bought the competition to kill their game. And what's left of Criterion who stayed, were put to make your game need for speed. Don't care what ways it comes back. It's EA. No buy.

CosmicTurtle87d ago

They bought Criterion for their middleware engine Renderware I believe. But the studio was a bonus.

TheColbertinator88d ago

I enjoyed NFS Heat but they never built properly on that.

When to expect a great one should be the question. Must be 15 years

Dandalandan117107d ago

Why can't they just give fans what they want?
Remake NFSU, NFSU2, or the original Most Wanted.
Or what about a new Burnout game perhaps?

Deathtracker107d ago

We've been waiting for these remakes since, like, forever.

badboyz09107d ago

I'll wait for Midnight Club😁

The_Hooligan107d ago

Same. They should remaster the trilogy. I'll buy it day 1. I still have all three for the PS2.

Michiel1989107d ago

fuck need for speed, give us a new burnout by Criterion

Fonsecap107d ago

Search YouTube for Need for speed underground 2 remaster, modders are porting the game to UE

underground 1 and 2 are still the best ones.

isarai128d ago

And they're spent every game after that trying to chase that high and never meeting it

Ninver127d ago

Makes you think if gamers are looking to relive nostalgia or each dev that has attempted to mimic the glory days are just incompetent?

DarXyde127d ago

Truth. Loved Midnight Club.

I wouldn't be mad at another proper Underground or Most Wanted (PS2/X360) entry though.
