Why Uncharted's Recent PC Release Didn't Do as Hot as Other Franchises

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection recently hit Steam, but its sales figures pale in comparison to Sony's last few PC releases for a few reasons.

I think it didn't do as well because it is the 4th game in the series. While you don't need to play the previous uncharted to enjoy these games, people will still be hesitant because it is story driven. Sony should have rebooted the original.

TheProfessional952d ago (Edited 952d ago )

The fourth one was also easily the worst of the series which doesn't help either. The long lost brother thing (who was never mentioned in any of the previous games) plus lame box puzzles and the least action in all 4 games made it weaker than the first three which are great. They should've remastered the first two instead, those were the best.

INMATEofARKHAM952d ago

I actually think UC3 was the worst of the bunch... Granted, in this series the worst is still a damn amazing game.

Shadowsteal952d ago

4 was fantastic and a great evolution to the gameplay. UC3 is the sore spot of the saga.

Outside_ofthe_Box952d ago

UC1 is the worst one.

1.UC2
2.UC4
3.UC3
4.UC1

jwillj2k4952d ago

UC3 was by far the worst. Only one I couldn’t finish. Looked sub par and was buggy in comparison to 2.

Minute Man 721952d ago

@the Professional
Toss up between 3 and 4 as the worst....
They showed the best part of 4 at E3

Flewid638952d ago

Yeah I feel like 4 had the best story but was among the worst games. The series overall peaked for me at UC2, but I will say the "young Drake" sections of 3 were fun. Overall that one felt like a bore too.

lucian229952d ago

nah part one is the worst; literally it's purely bare bones

Espangerish952d ago

Not a popular opinion but I totally agree with you. Uncharted 4 brought in too many TLOU mechanics and puzzles. These games were best as light hearted easy going action adventures. Don’t want stealth and realism at all.

Army_of_Darkness952d ago

I agree with @outside.
The first uncharted is definitely the worse(it was good, not great) out of series.

septemberindecember952d ago (Edited 952d ago )

IMO the first is the worst. But 2-4 are fantastic games. 2 is IMO the best.

By that logic God of War (2018) would not have sold so well (which is a 6th or 7th game in the God of War series if you count the Playstation portable game).

DivineHand125952d ago

God of war 2018 was successful partly to the fact that it had the perception of being a reboot. It also helped that the previous God of war games weren't that complex in terms of story. We all know what was kratos motivation in those games.

Flewid638952d ago

The first 3 were remastered in 60fps a while back. It should've been part of the package here

neutralgamer1992952d ago

I am a big fan of the series and I think Sony should and will release the original trilogy on PC. Releasing the 4th game in the series isn't the right way to do it

LucasRuinedChildhood952d ago

They could update the Nathan Drake Collection on PS5 to 4K as well.

Get people excited and replaying the whole franchise in anticipation for the next game.

Minute Man 721952d ago

Need 4K assets and not a resolution bump

on_line_forever952d ago

Yes sony did mistake by releasing the 4th one before the original trilogy this is make pc players not interest to 4th one

MrBaskerville952d ago

There's a possibility that games like this are fairly unpopular on steam. Narrative driven shooters doesn't seem like something that has a life on the platform. Unless I'm missing something.

Flewid638952d ago

Quantum Break was well received on there....and that game actually feels like a PlayStation game.

MrBaskerville952d ago

But they are few and far between. Looking at all time popular steam games it points in all kinds of directions. Small narrative indie games, simulators, hardcore shooters, horror games, animu visual novels. Just seems like the pc crowd is different than the console crowd.

A good example of this is Death Stranding, ps4 gamers thought it was weird while pc gamers embraced it.

CantThinkOfAUsername952d ago

Narrative-driven anything. PC gamers are more interested in RPGs, Time-sinks, and Multiplayer. Everything else gets tossed to the sidelines (even strategy games, which this is their main platform).

MrBaskerville952d ago

The most well reviewed game of all time on steam is cutesy narrative driven walking simulator. So not sure it's entirely true. But the popular narrative games are rarely third person shooters.

Seafort951d ago

What a load of crap. I'm a PC gamer and I love games like Uncharted 4. I did buy it on PC but I wouldn't have if I hadn't played the first 3 games in the series on PS3 first. A friend of mine didn't buy it as he hadn't played the first 3 games so wasn't going to buy the 4th in the series of a story driven series without playing those first.

That is the real reason that Uncharted 4 didn't sell as well as God of War or Horizon on PC.

Some of my favourite games are action-adventure games like Tomb Raider, Uncharted, and God of War.

I am hoping Ghost of Tsushima comes to PC early next year.

Your stereotyping is way off the mark.

CantThinkOfAUsername951d ago

@Seafort look at the current Steam Top Sellers, mate. Yes, people like you and me exist, but we're not the majority.

porkChop952d ago

I mean they released the end of a story spanning 4 games. They should have ported all of the games over. It's not a surprise that PC gamers might want to wait until they can get the whole story. Hopefully Golden Abyss also comes over because I enjoyed that game more than 1 and 3.

IcedOmega13952d ago

I had no idea they came out on pc. Maybe it needed better marketing?

Furesis952d ago

100% This
It being the 4th game honestly to me isn't a big deal.
I saw no marketing for this only on steam front page on the release day and maybe some small streamers were paid to play it. Can't expect people to buy it if they don't know it exists.

Good month. I recommend PS users to download R6 Extraction. It is seriously a really fun and polished co-op game.

Totally agree. The game got dragged in the review market but, get some friends together and it’s definitely worth a shot. It’s just as good with shooting mechanics as siege but no sweat lords to compete with

That's a crap ton of older good titles...some of which I never got to.

poppatron821d ago

I’ve been holding out but I think when they start putting psvr 2 titles on there it’ll be my time to dive in

crazyCoconuts821d ago

I was thinking the same thing when I locked in on the deals they had during the last holiday season. I'm normally not a fan of subs but this was so cheap and the likelihood of them adding PSVR2 is pretty high imo. Hopefully within the next 6 months.

SullysCigar821d ago

It'll happen for sure at some point. They did OG PSVR titles on Plus before. Hopefully they'll be great games that flew under the radar, like The Light Brigade seems to be.
