From GameSpot: "New Tales from the Borderlands manages to accomplish many of the narrative highs of its predecessor by providing a glimpse into how normal, everyday people handle the outrageous going-ons of the Borderlands series. The story is helped along by the narrative arcs of its three main characters, each of which feeds into and builds on one another. The narrative momentum stalls mid-way through the story, but New Tales from the Borderlands manages to finish strong, delivering a charmingly fun space western adventure."
Adam Vale of The Koalition writes: It’s inevitable that at some point in your gaming journey you have or will experience heartache when a developer of a beloved game goes out of business leaving that game in IP limbo. So, when Telltale closed up shop in 2018, the big question I had was will this wonderful library of narrative point & click / QTE adventure games also disappear? Well, the answer soon became yes and no.
It's not the ultimate follow-up to Tales, but fans of Borderlands are sure to enjoy it.
Dan Rizzo says "New Tales from the Borderlands may not be as sharp as the original, but if you’re looking for a great follow-up with a fresh feel, a unique band of miscreants and something to chuckle at, then this will deliver on those fronts. My advice would be to temper expectations before heading in, and don’t try to compare it to the astounding works of Telltale’s entry."
