"Soulslike" is a genre descriptor that is used often to the detriment of the game it is describing. Not because it is wrong per se, but because it is not giving the full picture.

Soulslike is becoming oversatured even in the indie space. 2D Soulslike, roguelike, Metroidvania. That's a majority of indies nowadays.
Devs and publishers push whatever sells...So if the market buys it, they push it...Just look at EA, they've milked "The Sims" series since the year 2000. In other words, for +23 years time.
