Forspoken - 10-Minute Gameplay Trailer | PS5 Games

Get an in-depth look at the adventure that awaits you in the world of Athia.

Ben Dover603d ago

Yea this is starting to look absolutely phenomenal! What a big improvement over previous showings.

sammarshall102603d ago

Yeah the powers look unbelievable, so does traversing the environments. It might be a sleeper hit

_SilverHawk_603d ago

I'm looking forward to this game and can't wait to play it. It looks amazing

Lightning Mr Bubbles603d ago (Edited 603d ago )

Yeah, this is obviously day 1 for me. Despite some criticism, it's an AAA console exclusive from Square Enix for PS5. So it was never a question for me. Good of bad, I was always going to buy it.

I still had some questions about what this game actually was though. And after looking at it more, I'm starting to feel like it's Square Enix's version of Infamous.

lonewolf10603d ago

Agreed best gameplay vid yet, now on my radar for sure.

z2g603d ago (Edited 603d ago )

Meh. Agree to disagree. It looks kinda boring. Some of the effects/powers look interesting but that’s about it. Graphics are average at best, framerates aren’t amazing and there’s a surprising amount of texture/LOD pop in even in this video that is distracting and shouldn’t be this bad on ps5. It also still feels empty.

Sony has some games on the way that I’m sure will be amazing and I’m absolutely looking forward to them, but nothing I’ve seen of this game so far makes me want to buy it.

Knushwood Butt602d ago (Edited 602d ago )

Looks OK
The world doesn't look lived in; just looks like designers made some pretty buildings, then dropped a few crates and guards here and there to populate it.

Also, everything is pristine. These folks must pay some serious taxes for that level of trash collection and street cleaning!

Also, it really irks me how these games are now obsessed with throwing in every kind of accent known to man. It just doesn't work like that. I live on the opposite side of the world from where I was raised. Do you think I talk to people here using the same accent, slang etc as if I was talking to my folks? Nope, I deliberately water it down so my audience can understand me, and also to fit in.

ClayRules2012603d ago

Yeah, much much more solid and impressive looking compared to previous showings! So glad they delayed and went to work hard on the game.

CaptainHenry916603d ago (Edited 603d ago )

This will definitely be a sleeper hit. Looks like they fix a few things with the gameplay and open world

Jin_Sakai602d ago

Graphics look great and the particle effects are incredible. That aside the world is empty is some areas and the game looks a somewhat boring. Maybe things will get better by launch.

SyntheticForm602d ago

I'm very interested now; looks great.

CrimsonWing69603d ago

My only complaint is how empty the towns and the world are… well, that and the fat lady was animated so rigidly like an early PS3 game. Seriously, go look at Witcher 3’s NPC conversation animations and tell me this one doesn’t look rigid and robotic.

Spenok603d ago

I agree on the Fat ladies animations... but the rest looks damned fun and I can't wait to play it.

LiViNgLeGaCY603d ago

Ok, this looks REALLY fun now!

ClayRules2012603d ago

It really does!

The spells casted at 4:40-4:45 had me really impressed!

Now, if only we could get a Marvel’s Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch or heck, I’d even be happy for a HP game based on Dumbledore😊 (because that big ball of water show in this gameplay footage reminds me of the scene in Order of the Phoenix, where Dumbledore wraps Voldemort in it) A game with Dr. Strange and Wanda is more likely obviously (fingers🤞🏻) Dumbledore game I wouldn’t much complain, if done right haha.

But, this showing of FORSPOKEN looks really solid.

Btw, hope you’re doing well, buddy!

LiViNgLeGaCY603d ago

Omg, a Doctor Strange video game would be a dream come true!

You just.......get me Clay. Lol.

ClayRules2012602d ago (Edited 602d ago )

Lol. Glad I get you. A Doctor Strange game, it really would be a dream come true! Here’s my idea on some aspects of the game.

R1 light defensive attack.
R2 Heavy defensive attack.

L1 light offensive attack.
L2 Heavy Defensive attack.

Triangle will be used to conjure up our energy as strange does right before he’s about to kick some major ass (pardon my language) lol.

Tap triangle to conjure up energy (cool down is 10 seconds)

Hold triangle to conjure up an extra boost of energy (strange has some extra in game dialogue added for these instances when the player does this) adds to the moments, especially in intense moments! You feel it in the controller and see the energy built up.

From here you get to select with the Right thumb stick (pushing down) the relic wheel showing many of options available to you, limited at first. But time slows down, like in ForSpoken (option to keep things moving in real-time (normal speed tho😜) no thanks for me I don’t think haha.

The Winds of Watoomb can be used (but only as a special) but you can mix and match spells together too) not all. But a nice variety.

You can have your cape come off and fight for you in almost any situation (by tapping the touch pad once) maybe we’ll figure out a different button if that’s not responsive enough.

X button is to jump.
O button is for pulling off the most powerful magic moves (which you still access from the wheel by tapping circle.
Square is for hand to hand combat, which will be worked in somehow.

Strange would have weight to him, along with his movements, but also be light and quick on his feet. Physics would be a huge thing in the game (which would be open world) and Strange reacts with his environment when tossed or knocked into objects, the wall etc. while not all walls and building could be destroyed for gameplay and open world purposes later on, some story missions would allow the player to destroy to their hearts content absolutely everything. But it could just be wide linear if need be instead of open world.

But the physics on offer here, and the gameplay would bring a welcome challenge, not because the controls are too difficult (I don’t think I made them too complicated lol?🤷🏼‍♂️) but I’m thinking more so the enemies you face are equipped with similar very responsible and intelligent Ai, magic and or skills, weapons they aren’t to be taken lightly. So, players, be on your toes at all times.

Oooh, last thing, we have the time stone, and it allows us to use time how we see fit in gameplay (in terms of repairing cover) if things get too intense, we’re low on health, magic needs to recharge/our conjuring energy, time Stone comes in handy, repair that wall (the game does that (as you move the camera, aim and tap a button to repair, it happens in real-time) and enemies come at you from the other side. You can use the Time Stone in the entire space or in certain aspects of things I guess.

Sorry for this long thing of what is just nonsense, but it’s an idea of stuff lol.

LiViNgLeGaCY602d ago

Dude I love it. You've really put some serious thought into this. Lol. All I gotta say is you should absolutely get ahold of someone and PITCH THIS!! Haha.

ClayRules2012602d ago

I really do appreciate your feedback, and you reading all of that🙏🏼Thanks man! I’ll look into pitching it to someone, somehow! Haha.

GaboonViper602d ago

I would kill for a Doctor Strange game.

VersusDMC603d ago

Character movement and combat looks really good. Even if the story ends up sucking(i think it will be meh at worst) i am totally getting it to parkour all over that beautiful environment.

Fluxour603d ago

People are shitting on the writing, but the kid MC actually sounds like... a kid. No issue there. However, I'm disappointed by the empty cities and jank animations in cutscenes

ClayRules2012603d ago

Yeah, the writing (even from the first trailers introducing her etc) weren’t an issue for me personally, I didn’t think it was cringe or anything. But yes, I agree. The empty cities does have me a bit disappointed, knowing that although the visual fidelity on display in the character models in general that have been shown on the main character and some others in trailers previously look amazing and of a high quality, as do the environments and the great great texture work, seeing the empty cities with very few people (from what was shown in the trailer is a bit underwhelming. I want to explore the city too, and talk to people, but if the NPC’s (one’s who just stand by or walk by, looking off into the distance idle don’t show much emotion or have anything to really do or say to say, who knows yet) that’ll be a bummer. Beautiful open worlds are nice to see, but to have dense, lived in worlds, even when that world needs to be adjusted to fit story specific ideas/guidelines for say not having people out in this section of the world etc, okay. But in the cities, with all the horsepower and speed available to devs now, really add more to the NPC’s and the cities/towns they live in! After RDR2 being so lived in and NOT just a backdrop for the NPC’s, but their everyday home, it makes a huge difference in the immersion. Sorry for going on there lol. But also, the funky odd animations in cutscenes did look bad and stuck out.

Nonetheless, the magic, combat, and movement/traversal is looking really solid and I bet will be splendid overall when played by gamers. I can’t wait!

Oh, the things I’ll do with this game and photo mode…

brewin602d ago

Yeah that jank is really noticeable lol. And it just looks so empty and lifeless.

Most Disappointing Game of 2023

VGChartz's Craig S: "Who doesn't love a good dose of schadenfreude every now and then? There was no shortage of that on offer in terms of video games last year, hidden in plain sight amongst the more genuine disappointments (I'll leave it for you to decide which category each of the following games falls into).

One unfortunate trend when it comes to the biggest disappointments of the last year was that so many were new IPs, including Bethesda's latest major release Starfield, the Arkane Studio B-team's abortive attempt at a co-op vampire shooter, and Square Enix's action RPG Forspoken. Mega-franchise Call of Duty and the perennially delayed The Lord of the Rings: Gollum round out the list of Nominees."

I think disappointing and bad are not the same thing.

The article calls out lotr Gollum that was not disappointing it was bad

Redfall is both disappointing and bad.

starfield, MW3 sure disappointing.

But if I was to add some disappointments of the year I'd add

firewall ultra absolutely a dumpster fire that killed the studio.

007 goldeneye the port of the N64 game it's disappointing as we didn't get the rare remaster version and the switch version has very poor controls.

Rdr was not the remake we wanted a simple port that didn't even run at 60 fps on launch on ps5

Jedi survivor Just broken on day 1

coolbeans86d ago

-"The article calls out lotr Gollum that was not disappointing it was bad"

I personally fall on the 'Gollum disappointing' spectrum. Here's why: even though Daedalic Entertainment was hopping out of their point-n-click lane, they *were* a solid group of devs that had an unexpected concept. Those two things, cheering on a dev taking a risk with a brand and the odd-yet-intriguing template, at least made me hope for something decent; instead, it's the reason they're only publishing now.

CBaoth86d ago

But the concept never stood a chance, even in the heyday of the Metal Gear/Splinter Cell days. When this was announced, no one was intrigued by its premise. Fell flat on its face. Even if Gollum had come out to glowing reviews the game would've struggled to perform financially. That's why it's not disappointing, just bad. Had no hype. All the other games Prof listed had the potential to sell great or be reviewed better but failed. Low effort remasters like the GTA collection, the RDR port, and MGS Collection could all sell well but still be severely disappointing. Gollum was uninteresting at concept, terrible in its execution. The result was expected sadly.

-Foxtrot86d ago

Goldeneye is so weird

We got no proper remaster for it despite the fact it was being worked on and it was almost done apparently then the Xbox version didn't come with online play but the Nintendo Switch one did...the Switch...the system where online play is a f***** ballache.

RhinoGamer8886d ago

I recently came back to Redfall, my lord...the controls and movement were a disgrace! I felt like my character was drunk. Zero fine movement control. The XBOX producers on this game should be fired.

OtterX86d ago

I think Diablo IV deserves to be on this list. While not the worst made game, it was one of the most disappointing. Many of us had such high expectations for it and it turned out to be so incredibly dull, a slog to play.

Sonic188186d ago

It's basically Diablo Immoral 2.0 with lots of microtransactions

DarkZane86d ago

Diablo 3 was as much as a dumpster fire at launch, but a year later, it became a very good game and was well worth playing. Give Diablo 4 the same time. In a year, it's going to be awesome I bet.

coolbeans86d ago

I was under the impression their most-recent update fits that bill.

OtterX86d ago

K I'll try reinstalling in a year or 2.

I didn't play D3 until after the first year, so I will certainly give it another shot.. especially to try and get my money's worth out of it. But at launch, I was bored out of my mind and uninstalled it.

Sonic188185d ago

That's the biggest issue. Unfinished games with lots of flaws and issues during launch. Unfortunately, most gamers don't forget or forgive that and would rather spend their money on another game

jznrpg86d ago (Edited 86d ago )

Jedi Survivor was disappointing for me because I waited until a month ago to play it and it still has major issues. My saves were getting corrupted so I had to restart an old save however many times and a plethora of other bugs.

Of course there is Redfall Starfield but to me it’s MS overhype underdeliver so I expected it to some extent but not as bad as it was.

Gollum had little to no expectations.

Forspoken was a disappointment but not as bad as it was made out to be especially if you turned on Japanese voice acting. It was a 7 type of game but it looked like it could have been better.

Diablo 4 was scored well at launch but all my friends that loved and played 3 (after years of swasons) up until 4 were disappointed with 4 and don’t play it anymore .

Factions getting canceled was a bit of a disappointment. Not huge as I don’t play gaas much but it was disappointing.

Nintendo not releasing Switch 2 again was disappointing to me. I don’t use my Switch much it’s just so outdated and mosty kiddy games release some more games that I want to play not my kids!

No physical copy for Alan Wake 3 disappointing as hell, actually beyond that it is upsetting (to some extent,I will live of course)

Gamers getting used to owning nothing and renting games is very disappointing. I don’t watch Netflix anymore it’s mosty mediocre crap and rental services will go that direction if allowed.

CBaoth86d ago

this whole gen has been a major disappointment to me. Least amount of gaming I've done since bar/clubbing days. Watching fanboys argue now is akin to a couple of kids fighting over the front seat of a short bus. They can't even argue over games anymore.....cuz there aren't any! With two of the console manufacturers "switching' over to x86 architecture we shouldn't be having these draughts but here we are. And the third happily chugs along selling games on decade old microchips with an OLED screen.

Profchaos86d ago (Edited 86d ago )

X86 is a shared architecture but both run different development pipelines so they still have to Dev for those consoles plus PC and Arm if a switch port is included.

None of this will reduce Dev times games are complex now probably more than they need to be honestly but if every studio takes 3 to 5 or even 10 years to bring out their big titles there's going to be many dry spells

On that note arm processing is far more efficient than x86 I think Nintendo is making the right call sticking with that and we will probably see Sony and Microsoft do the same next gen as more effort is being made to bring arm into desktop space lately

Profchaos86d ago

Being disappointed that Nintendo isn't releasing ultra violent games is like being disappointed that the the next GTA game is open world. Plus totk and Metroid prime remaster did come out this year that's about as violent as they will even get

Im pretty certain that one experiment in publishing devils third is one they would like to forget.

Plus all rumours for the switch 2 places it's release in 2024 they make killer numbers at Christmas if they announce they are making a switch 2 those sales dwindle and shareholders get upset. If a switch 2 doesn't release this year that's disappointing. And if third party's don't develop for it even more so there's zero garuntee they will

I agree gamers getting used to owning nothing is a huge disappointment I don't think many will go silently into that one though

I Hope 2024 Isn't As Bad For PC Ports As 2023 Was

Ahmed from eXputer writes "The quality of PC ports has been seeing a severe decline recently, and many gamers have had enough."

anast127d ago

Switch Forspoken with Redfall.

JEECE127d ago

It can be an unfortunate trend in our industry to lump games people were looking forward to that didn't end up meeting their expectations and were just okay (Forspoken) with games that are broken (Gollum) or little more than asset flips (The Day Before). If expectations (and price) had been set appropriately, Forspoken wouldn't even be that bad.
