What should boomer shooters be called?

Humble Bundle had a Boomer Shooter Bundle, and games like Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun proudly wear the label by choice. Maybe it's time to give in and accept the '90s-style retro FPS subgenre is going to be stuck with a silly label because it sounds funny. Or maybe it's time to get prescriptive.

The correct terminology already exists and has for a long time, so I'm just wondering how that term even came into existence. Is it just any shooting game before the 2010's?

It's just another word where people have diluted the meaning to mean almost anything, it's sad when people keep diluting the original meaning of words. Look at the word "simp", alot of people use it to mean a man that does anything for a woman regardless of being in a relationship with them, or just a man that likes a woman.

Boomer shooters would be Asteroids, Robotron 2084, Tempest and maybe Duck Hunt. Even then any actual boomers I knew probably only played Duck Hunt if any games at all.

It has nothing to do with the age of the players playing these games and more to do with how the primary weapons worked. They went "boom" and made you feel powerful while strafing around killing things.

I don't see the issue calling something a "boomershooter". It definitely has become its own genre, and typically lets people know exactly what they're getting into - a very 90s sort of gaming experience in the realm of Quake or Unreal; whether it be single player or multiplayer.

Call them Gen X shooters the last generation that didnt suck, and didnt need a safe space and warning triggers and didnt get triggered at everything. They went outside and talked to people face to face and knew not to talk crap to peoples face or they just might beat you down.

But really though, I'm a 30 year old millennial and that definitely doesn't describe me or most of my friends.
I always say the same thing though if millennials/genz are the weakest generation, maybe boomers and genx sucked at being proper parents and preparing their kids for life.

1) Awesome Shooters:
Because you play as an awesome character that does not run and hide and shoos everything like the awesome they are.
2) Brave Shooters:
Because you dont play as some coward who hides behind some wall looking like some cockroach trying to avoid extermination. You play as Brave warriors that get in the face of the enemies and SHOOT.
3) Dakka Dakka Shooters
Because in those games your weapons go LOUD AND CLEAR DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA instead of the weird squishy noises you hear in cover shooters.
4) Hero Shooters
Because in these games you play as heroic badass characters who BATTLE AGAINST DEMON AND MONSTERS TO WIN. Not commit war crimes and kill poor civilians or homeless people or children and get medals for it from some coward creepy government like your typical villains do.
