Hundreds of accidents happen every single year around the world putting patients, technologists & medical personnel in danger in the MRI environment. Accidents mostly happen due to innocent intrusion while the MRI procedure is going on. The strong magnetic field will attract magnetic objects (from small items such as keys and cell phones, to large, heavy items such as oxygen tanks and floor buffers) and may cause damage to the patient or medical professionals or the machine itself. A typical MRI magnet has a local magnetic field which is 30,000 times the strength of the earth's magnetic field!
