"Crafting a satisfying mystery story can be incredibly difficult. This is especially true when it comes to video games as the genre not only requires players to feel like they have accomplished something by solving puzzles and feeling like they are actually part of an investigation rather than simply spectacting. That is where Kotaro Uchikoshi has almost always proven himself as a strong director with the Zero Escape series and the original AI: The Somnium Files game. Now with an unexpected sequel, AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative, arriving in the West, is this murder mystery as well crafted as fans of the genre and Uchikoshi’s work could hope for?"
VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "In some ways, 2022 felt like a mini-renaissance for the adventure genre. The final third of the year kept point-n-click adventure fans well-fed with revivals like Return to Monkey Island, new IPs like The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow, and more, while more choice-focused ones were scattered throughout the year, such as Pentiment and The Quarry. Games from old and new studios made it through our preliminary voting list, impressing the VGC community and critics alike. Now, after two layers of filtering, we’ve reached the final four contestants."
VGChartz's Paul Broussard: "2023 has officially arrived, which means another year of possibilities, opportunities, worries, and most importantly, chances to replay Chop Goblins. But before we officially start looking forward to 2023's slate of titles, let's look back at what 2022 had to offer one last time. Before we begin announcing the site-wide Game of the Year Award winners, we'll kick things off by talking a bit about some of the games that left the greatest impressions on us as writers in 2022."
