As someone with past addiction issues, Diablo Immortal conjures sick feelings

Once the Activision acquisition deal closes, Diablo Immortal's immoral pay-to-win gambling systems must never become the norm for Microsoft.

Diablo immortals end game in my opinion is immoral.

SullysCigar1042d ago

It's predatory, preying on those afflicted by addiction or who don't keep track or understand what they're spending.

The sooner this is governed properly, the better.

gamer78041042d ago

While I don’t like the practice that’s government overreach. If you have a history of alcoholism don’t drink if you have had a gambling addiction don’t buy this game. Also parents be involved in knowing what your kids play.

The government is horrible at managing stuff. Let them stick with our basic rights.

SullysCigar1042d ago

^ I wasn't necessarily implying the government should be involved, pretty much for the reasons you've stated.

There should be regulation though, or these companies will continue to take advantage.

Parents should definitely be more involved, but the fact is they're generally not. Addiction isn't quite as simple as just deciding not to partake, sadly.

Old McGroin1042d ago

So, like any other mobile game then?

LordoftheCritics1042d ago (Edited 1042d ago )

Society, its rules, its systems etc are thrown at you and you have to accept it even if you cannot handle it. Dont like social media, too bad its in your face. Dont want VR, too bad its going to be in your face and in your home office, dont want gambling in games, too bad everyone is doing it so its norm??

That is the unfortunate state of today.

We are not fully prepared for information overload, gambling systems in every game, job like cycles in every game, every money trap tied to game systems and life systems.

There are many things that need to be regulated today. We are on full speed to burn out everyone physically and psychologically.

Interesting to read a take on this from someone who suffers and recognises addiction. The outcry against these practices hasn't been just wailing for no reason.
However I wouldnt trust Microsofts vision to be against these practices. They've more than dabbled in them before and I doubt Activisions revenue forms weren't considered in the acquisition.

I would also mention that as enjoyable as this was to read, there's a sense of irony in how frustrating it was to read also. For a piece written about predatory and invasive revenues, The page sure is riddled with advertisements.

PhillyDillyDee1042d ago

Very good article. I played the game for maybe 10 minutes before i saw the beginnings of manipulation. Deleted.

sourOG1042d ago

Lmao I’d rather be addicted to heroin than Diablo immortals

LucasRuinedChildhood1042d ago

Heroin is a cheaper addiction. lol. Much fairer pricing

most people who know they have addiction problems stay away from the things they are addicted to. maybe this person should do the same. its lame to punish others who can manage their sh*t because of someone who cant.... thats the problem with the world these days. someone can't handle something or doesn't like something so they try to take it away from the rest of the world. well... different strokes for different folks guys. this isn't a justification for microtransactions or whatever, but more an indictment of this culture of "i have a problem so now thats your problem".

Christopher1042d ago

***most people who know they have addiction problems stay away from the things they are addicted to.***

Relapse is a massive issue with addictions, actually. So, no.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.go...

"It has long been known that addictive disorders are chronic and relapsing in nature [1, 2]. Recent estimates from clinical treatment studies suggest that more than two thirds of individuals relapse within weeks to months of initiating treatment [3, 4•, 5]."

gamer78041039d ago (Edited 1039d ago )

He probabaly means recovered addicts like alcoholics know they need to stay away. Not those currently addicted.

Also We can’t go around banning anything (that’s not substantively chemically) addictive because a small subset of people make poor life decisions with it.

Welshy1042d ago

@z2g Congrats, most ignorant of the thread so far 🤝

There's no such thing as a recovered addict. An addict is always in recovery, never out of it.

***Also We can’t go around banning anything (that’s not substantively chemically) addictive because a small subset of people make poor life decisions with it.***

Sure we can. That's literally the purpose of governments.

Still no global chat or group finder.

The emptiest MP game ever made.

OtterX327d ago

1 more month then I can celebrate 1 year since i stopped playing and uninstalled the game.

Walalon327d ago

We are on the same team brother!

Rynxie327d ago

I uninstalled d4 after they kept screwing over the sorc build and I beat the game. I also uninstalled immortal after reading the end. I actually went back to d2r here and there.

just_looken326d ago

The only thing i enjoyed in D4 was the mp side but after they gutted my hunter build then again wanted me to grind for over hundred hours each season i too quit like you.

Its insane though a year has already passed.

Daeloki325d ago

Hard pass, gave it a chance on launch with a friend, but we made it a bit past act 1 only to realise how tedious it was.
