Battlefield 2042 Season 1 Will Only Feature 1 New Map; BF Portal Weapons to Be Added in Core Modes

Battlefield 2042 will only feature one new map confirmed! BF Portal weapons planned to be added in All-Out Warfare core game modes.

porkChop716d ago

Only 1 map this long after release?

Tacoboto715d ago

It's Halo's fault this time as well; "We'd have more but they released two maps on Season 2"

FGHFGHFGH714d ago

well the maps are like 10x bigger than halo maps

1nsomniac715d ago

absolute incompetence! Devs should be blacklisted within the industry.

ClayRules2012715d ago

I agree, absolute incompetence! Devs that claim to be “Gamers” and say they love it/have loved it since they were kids, yet they produce garbage, and unfinished, broke games to their fellow gamers/the public. It’s really disgusting!

Eonjay715d ago

I'm sorry but this falls back on management. Not specific devs. Teams are only as good as the leaders and the overarching project management. When you look at someone like Insomniac who productivity is off the charts, you may be tempted to say that this is because they have better devs. I would bet, however, that Insomiac's edge is the actually leadership and how it channels and focuses the efforts of those talanted devs.

1nsomniac714d ago (Edited 714d ago )

No, this is clearly not just management that’s a crazy thing to say. You can’t not hold developers accountable for the poor development of the game. Management don’t develop games. Although management are equally to blame.

ClayRules2012715d ago

@Eonjay

Yes, you’re not wrong, it does fall back on management. I shoulda went more in detail with my explanation and I’m glad you’ve commented and said this. You referenced Insomniac, and I agree with what you’ve said there. And I’ll add Naughty Dog to the conversation. Most fans who’ve followed and supported them from the PS2 days to now know and have a fair understanding of how things are run within the studio (thanks to their dev diary videos on games such as Uncharted 4) and yes, they do have management and a certain structure to follow within the studio. However, they’re all allowed to speak freely/criticize each other’s work, not because it’s bad, but because all opinions are valid, from different members on the team, from different departments, who’re trying their best to make each area of the game the best it can possibly be. Now, I know, and it’s not a surprise that it’s probably few and far between that studios are allowed to operate to the lengths that the ND team does, but again, everyone has a voice, everyone is heard, because their voice matters. It’s from the top down. And seeing the results of their teamwork, individual talents, and just the overall amazing talented team, the end results for their games being high quality AAA games continues to show.

I do agree, if you don’t have someone leading the team with clear direction, things won’t turn out so well (in many cases) with certain areas of development/work on the game not coming out to the quality it could, since the managers (quite possibly) don’t care and just know they can cash in on said name of the game (because of the iP or the studios name alone, which will sell.

So yeah, I do agree, the leadership at Insomniac clearly know what they’re doing, not just them, they’re invested in their team, their games and all areas of development (as much as humanly possible, I assume they look at each area themselves) to make sure things are running smoothly, the team members all have what they need, the team can express concerns and the leaders can provide a fix/work around or encourage someone else from a different department to come in and help said team member(s) with the problem they can’t seem to fix. Knowing Insomniac seems to be not only in the ball with their consistent game releases, but also being able to keep up the quality of each new game to their standard, while also moving forward in improvements to not only their games, but raising the bar for the industry in aspects, that absolutely says something about Insomniac as a whole team, their talent, and Sony’s support behind them.

So yeah, management/product management can be the real problem, I see that. I’d still argue tho that because of the way Insomniac and Naughty Dog, amongst other Sony first party studios continue to operate in the different but similar ways that they do, does show them to have better devs them many out there in the industry. Not having to conform to the same ole formula of game design like many devs do, isn’t helping their talents, where as with Sony’s dev they continue to work on their talent, improve it, and prepare ready and better than they were previously for the next game, because they’re being challenged, creatively etc. which many devs don’t have that opportunity in the same way.

That was a lot, and I don’t know if I covered everything I wanted to... but yeah.

adaminoregon715d ago

They really should have taken another year on this game.maybe now these companies will start to understand that we are done with incomplete cash grabs. But they wont.

Nitrowolf2715d ago

Yep, should have just said F it, delay it a full year

porkChop715d ago

Every BF game since BF4 has released broken and unfinished. They've gotten worse over time as well, not better. They didn't even make a campaign this time so they had more people working on 2042's multiplayer content than previous games.

frostypants715d ago (Edited 715d ago )

It wasn't just time. The core design was a blunder that ignored everything that made BF special. No amount of time would have fixed it.

aaronaton715d ago

EA says largest Battlefield team yet is building ‘another tremendous live service’

Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson stated in a recent EA Earnings Call, that the next Battlefield "it is going to be another tremendous live service.”

Another? ANOTHER?

Is he honestly trying to make out like the last Battlefield was a huge success, not just as a game but as a live service game? I'm sure these guys live in their own echo chambers, they are so far removed from reality or they just like talking out of their arse trying to rewrite history.

Also why say such a tone deaf statement when you know the state of live service games at the minute and how many gamers feel about them. Bigging up the next BF game as live service does not give me any excitement or hype.

''is building ‘another tremendous LIE service’''

/Fixed

just_looken2d ago

This is nothing too new
https://www.eurogamer.net/e...

They had plans of a universe of live service games

Also these studios made 2042 there is no new massive team its the same team
https://www.eurogamer.net/t...

Well same team minus the seattle boys that were canned
https://gamerant.com/ea-bat...

This is all again same news different year but it seems very few remember what happened before covid.

Walalon1d 17h ago

At least they put car freshner trees up their asses to think smelling their own farts smells good at this point to be so out of touch.

RaidenBlack3d ago

An Update on Battlefield 2042 and Welcoming Motive Studio to the Team

EA:

While we’ve enjoyed and are proud of creating these seasons of additional content for Battlefield 2042, it is now necessary for us to turn from the present to the future. What this ultimately means is that Season 7 will serve as the final season for Battlefield 2042. After Season 7 concludes, we will continue to support the game with new in-game challenges, events, modes, and of course, ongoing maintenance, but we are moving away from delivering official seasons.

Streamer Claims DICE Paid Over 60 Content Creators for Battlefield 2042 Feedback, Then Ignored It

Streamer Shroud says that DICE paid 60 to a hundred content creators to help develop Battlefield 2042, but ignored every single advice.

GoodGuy0945d ago

No wonder the game ended up the way it did
What they should've done was ask BF fans. Most general content creators typically go for the trend and the top creators stream games like LOL, fortnite, dota, gtaV, battle royale etc.

_SilverHawk_44d ago

A lot of times people want a game to be something else and I'd probably guess a lot of people wanted call of duty or a lot of it's features.

Bf2042 is amazing now but was not so much at launch. A lot of improvements made the game an amazing game with its own identity. I'm hoping the new battlefield game coming next year improves upon everything in bf2042 and is more akin to bf3 and bf4.

Gamingsince198144d ago

I want them to do a new bad company instead

DustMan43d ago

A ton of people have written the game off now. Which is unfortunate because I find it to be one of the best multiplayer shooters available now. I've been aware that a Battlefield game has not launched in a good condition since....I don't remember. So I never played at launch due to the horror stories, but it seems to have pulled a Battlefield 4 and really turned itself around. Good stuff. Love getting 4 kills on an apc with a well placed RPG, or Stinger to a loaded chopper lol. No other game has given me that kind of joy. lol.

Kornholic44d ago

To be fair, I would not listen to content creators/influencers either.

BISHOP-BRASIL44d ago

Look, I wouldn't pee on an influencer if they were on fire, but why pay for their feedback only to ignore it?

Kornholic44d ago

I don't know. Maybe they thought it was a good idea at first but eventually found out that it was best to ignore influencers' opinions?

jznrpg44d ago

I’ll give some advice and take money for it. You can use it or not use it just make sure to pay me

badboyz0944d ago

who would've thought🤷‍♀️

Yi-Long44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

Battlefield fans just want Battlefield to be Battlefield. Which means a focus on Conquest-mode (5/6 flags), some gorgeous and fun maps to play on, 4 balanced classes, and that's it.

The suits keep wanting to turn Battlefield into everything else BUT Battlefield, so first they wanted BF to be more like Call of Duty, so they copied a bunch of stuff from CoD. Then they wanted to take advantage of the Battle Royale stuff, so they went after that crowd. Then they saw the heroes stuff in Overwatch and so they brought in specialists. Etc.

Guys, we just want Battlefield. Not every games has to be everything to all people. Specialize in what makes (made) your series great, which is large(r) maps (appropriate size for the amount of players, which IMO should be 24-32 max, so not just big for bragging brights), integrating vehicle-combat, and just allowing the freedom and flow which made those matches in older Battlefield games so special at times.
