PS1 Classics on PS4 and PS5 Features Showcase

PS1 classics are rolling out in some regions for PS4 and PS5! Here's a features showcase to know what's new for the timeless clasics on new hardware.

It’s nice to see Sony finally fully embrace emulators and the legacy catalog (especially after Jim Ryan’s comments about ‘old games’).

On a side note, emulator rewinds and save states really break some games as shown, like Abe’s Odyssey becomes super easy. But use is optional of course.

Overall though, looks good. The original ‘filter’ looks the best!

I dunno - I don’t play Forza, and if I did I probably wouldn’t rewind in a racing game as that’s kinda lame.

But take a platformer like Abe’s or Crash. You can basically just keep rewinding until you nail that jump or enemy kill etc, or save after each hit/phase of a boss etc. It also breaks trophies a bit.

That being said, it’s optional, but still.

I think the rewind is fine, Nintendo has that in their retro games and my young son loves it lol.

Agreed, it's been too many years of being spoiled by autosaves and generally being able to save whenever you want for me to happily go back to the hard as nails unforgiving games from the past. I've done my time.

The idea of retro gaming is more appealing than the reality of it for me but this would help a lot.

I think the idea for rewind is to help you breeze thru your game so you can have a trip in memory lane and not an actual challenge.
All previous Final fantasy remasters let you go god mode from the start and no one complained.

It’s an awesome new service for those without game pass though, I can’t really warrant paying for both so might flip flop between the 2 if anything exciting comes out on either. Although I suspect I’ll probs just stay with gamepass. It’s exciting though none the less

I think Sony made Legacy dev team to bring more PS1 and PS2 games natively on PS4-5. I will buy individual games that I grew up on, and a couple of legendary ones that I missed.

I don't want to pay a subscription for a whole bunch of who knows what that I will never touch.

Definitely enough there to keep me busy for the moment and looking forward to trying valhalla and will probs give death stranding and Got a second go round if those are the directors cut editions.

Yea to each there own, i have gamepass also but ill defs be getting to premium service day 1 to compliment it as there both well priced. If im being honest theres a lot more here that im excited about than there currently is on gamepass.

The only game coming up i will play is sniper elite 5 but outside of thats its been a very dry year, havent really touched my xsx

Hoping at the xbox showcase ms has some suprises in store for us gp holders this year.

I'm gonna try it for 1month first but it's already a great saver as I'm going to play Assassin's creed, demon souls and replay death stranding and GoT all for £10.99.
Those savings will free up funds for my sniper elite 5 purchase and quarry purchase 😊
So that's 6 great games for £130 and will keep me busy till August while also supporting the Devs at rebellion and supermassive 😀

I have a base Essentials sub. Could I pay for a higher level tier for just one month, then when it expires I drop back to the base Essentials tier again?

Good to have options, but the filters only seem to change the brightness to me.

I'm just happy to see a retro scanline filter to be able to play classic 240p games the way they were intended. Classic game art for titles prior to the 480p era was designed with the CRT's blended output in mind.

I swear Sony are out of the loop when it comes to proper HD emulation for Classic games, they have done the same mistake 3 gens and to this day EVEN ON PS5 they are ignorant to the fact that there's graphic enhancements that can be implemented , for god sake Sony take a lesson from Duckstation or Beetle PSX

Pretty weak lineup to start off with tbh. I was kinda worried about that when they kept throwing around the "800" or whatever bloated number of titles when they were promoting it a few months ago without mentioning any titles specifically. Maybe they'll add some more quickly.

Now give me Xenogears so I can use rewind in the boss fight with Hammer to get that trading card or make those jumps in Babel Tower lol.
