I played through Sonic 3 and Knuckles on Xbox and I don't recall any of the music being different from the Genesis original.

Why would the music be replaced? I know the original compositions were based on some of Michael Jackson’s songs but the final music was owned by Sega wasn’t it?

This is not true. The wii virtual console version has the original music. Sonic Jam on Saturn has the original music. The Sonic Mega Collection AND the Sonic Gems Collection had the original music. You really don’t know what you’re talking about.

Seemed like a half assed release before this news anyway, but would Sega even admit the reason for different music if it's true? Maybe they'll give some dumb excuse for having different music rather than telling us the truth.

Or they'll just replace the music with no explanation.

Agreed. Have had Sonic 3 and every other Genesis or Arcade version of Sonic on my OG Xbox since 2004. Best for game preservation.

Everyone should just Ignore this game and buy Sonic mega collection on os2 or gamescube , roughly 3 times the amount of games and it's going to be cheaper or the same price

Sonic 3's original soundtrack is part of what made that my favorite Sonic game, playing it without that music just doesn't seem right to me, gonna have to pass.

Guessing whatever's going on with Jackson's estate since his death isn't allowed to be discussed officially until when (if) the rights are settled either way. Not sure how much blame Sega deserves on this; the estate/writers might be asking for an absurd sum or just not allowing the music to be used again, period. But if it's just Sega not paying what was agreed upon, well, quit being so damn cheap, Sega.
