From Digital Foundry: "There's a wealth of PlayStation 3 exclusive games that remain locked to the system - console-exclusive titles that sold millions of copies in their day that are no longer playable natively on modern systems. Sony itself has a system in place to make them accessible at least - the streaming-based PlayStation Now - but what you're looking at are compromised versions of the original experience, marred with image quality and latency problems. However, there is a route forward, albeit to a limited audience. The open source RPCS3 emulator allows PC users to access the PlayStation 3 library, and I've been playing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots at 4K resolution at 60fps, with 16x anisotropic filtering. It's a remarkable showcase of what could be, whether it is via local emulation on a PlayStation console, or via a Bluepoint-class remaster.
At Digital Foundry, we always desire the highest possible frame-rates with new game releases but also understand this isn't always possible, but Metal Gear Solid 4 is an interesting case as it's a game that teased us with the possibility of 60 frames per second only to stomp on our dreams with its eventual release. Flash back to the Tokyo Game Show in 2005 and we saw a game trailer running flat out at 60 frames per second - a far cry from the final release, that mostly operated in a 20-30fps window. The game did run unlocked, however, so there were sparing sections where 60fps was possible - a teaser of the game it was supposed to be."
Metal Gear Solid 4's iconic installation screen has been turned into an animated wallpaper for Wallpaper Engine.
Cultured Vultures: If you’ve got some feelings you want to dredge up all over again, or if spending more than 15 minutes on Twitter has caused you to become completely numb, these are the saddest video game moments that we will never forget.
Kingdom hearts was really sad at the end. The darkness when Jenny dies was shocking and sad
Mine have to be last of us, Joel's daughter. Maybe it hits different when you have kids vs bot. I'll throw ff7 up there to. On the verge of looking like some sort of love triangle then bam, death
I think Dom's wife's death in Gears 2 was sadder then Dom. Dom's death in Gears 3 just felt rushed.
The game's assistant producer says the number of discs was an issue.
Obviously they would had to remove all references to bluray in the game had they actually proceeded to make this happen. Id bet it would be something like at least 3-4 discs though.
The good news from this means it should be possible to port to current gen consoles if they were able to get it to run without the CELL.
I do remember back then how everyone said it was only possible on the CELL reminds me of todays it's only possible on the PS5's SSD.
So porting it shouldn't be hard. A 360 is very similar to modern console and PC structure.
As much as I would love to play mgs4 again, and I still hope to, I know playing it will bring back my old school Metal Gear Online days, and I miss that part of the game so, so much. 😢
isnt this old news anyway? did they not say that Microsoft were generally more interested in Rising back in the old days?

Curious if Sony has ever tried to get RPCS3 running on a PS4 or PS5?
Konami should have put the money they wasted on the last Contra and Metal gear survive on a MGS4 remaster. Or a whole series remaster for the PS4 and XB. It would have actually made them more money.
Damn. I really wished Sony would get this ip from konami. What a franchise
Sony really needs to just buy Konami's dormant IPs. Surely Konami would be open for the right deal.
This is what Sony could and should have offered with PS+ premium.
They should just go license RPCS3 (which may not even need licensing depending on what OSS license was used) - or hire the team behind it.
I wonder if we’ll ever see RPCS3 running on Xbox now that it runs emulators. I bet someone is looking into porting it.
